A fine for swearing? ( a rant)

I heard last week that some town in Massachusetts has banned public swearing. If caught you get fined. Well I say F@ck that! I can understand not having a potty mouth around children under 5, because they will repeat it over and over again. I can also see not saying anything blue around older kids because they may start using these phrases correctly but to not be able to b!tch or use the proper pronouns and adjectives when you are among adults is a breach of freedom of speech. Now I am not one of those who curses All the time but I do reserve the right to call an a$$hole and a$$hole! What do you think about this law?

This reminds Me a bit of Stallone's Movie "Demolition Man",where in the future,"Big Brother" computers detect swearing and issue a ticket...
Ok,I'll bite...What does the Town with the swearbox plan on doing with all the money they raise?!

I don't know! I wouldn't be surprised if it all goes in the pocket of a politician!

That's freaking ludicrous, and violates the first amendment! I think it's crazy, I mean everyone I've ever know has swore at some time or another. I mean what the hell are they going to have a bunch of cops going around listening to people's conversations? It is just an excuse to further violate people's privacy. I think these law makers need to get a life because there's a lot of things they could be working on. I don't know exactly what's going on in Massachusetts, but this is the second weird thing I've heard about from there recently, the other being a town not allowing kids to bring any kind of sugary food to school. Well, I know where I'm not moving.

You know what this means? To get out of school , all you have to do is bring in a donut! I would do it Everyday! And with most parents working. it would be so easy to sneak in a sweet!
If I were in this town, I would get All my friends to walk around swearing upa storm and the refuse to pay the fine. Have them Have to arrest me and I will set up Facebook, Twitter and the largest close city's Media to be there! Then take this case to the State Supreme court and then to the Supreme Court!

I think its okay to a certain extent like the work place. I don't think its every really the right place for that kind of word usage. But it also depends on the job that the person has. Watching what you say around kids that is of course normal because yes they will repeat what they hear weather they understand what the word means and even some in between ages from being a young child to a teenager.
I do agree it is taking away freedom of speech and being about to say what we want when we want about what ever it is.

I think the law itself is ridiculous. Since there's no people can't swear at some thing or some situation.

right on sarahruthbeth...i appreciate your concessions to the little ones (although i have heard some of them use language that would bring a sailor to shame...come to think of it i once met a very profane parrot) anyhow, we should be free to say whatever we want....

Shouldn`t we teach the little ones to use language instead?

That`s an absurd and stupid law. If I said this in Spanish, my native language, I`d use some swear words to say what I think of this. It would be a lot better if those authorities spent their money teaching the people there to use the swear words in a better word. They are needed, as you know. If we did not need then, we wouldn`t use them.

I have seen this on the news. I was amazed that they would do something stupid like that. This is supposed to be a free country, I guess it's not anymore. If I lived there, just to be spiteful, I would swear all day long. I would use the F word like every other word in a sentence. I would also use every word known to just be spiteful. And I would rally up the people that do not support this idiocy. People have a right to use whatever words they want to use. I do agree that using them in inappropriate ways is not nice, but it is part of the way people talk these days anyway. I think I will avoid Massachusetts now. Who the hell would want to go to a backwards state. Not me. I wonder if that is a Romney move.

This is one more attempt to infringe on personal liberties and not let anyone say anything that might offend someone else. What surprises me is that this should happen in a liberal state like Massachusetts. I suspect if this were tested in a court case, it would go down, since people are even allowed to say these words on television now, aren't they? Or is it only in movies? I don't see the former, and see very little of the latter, but it seems almost anything goes there now.

I would love to see someone test out this law! I wonder what is the penalty for Not paying the fine!
