Climate really affects the development of the country. For instance, in the ancient times, developed countries are the countries that have hotter climates, like egypt, nile, mesopotami, and not to mention others. They don't have to exert too much effort in order to survive because resources are abundant.
Unlike the colder places or countries where they are forced to think and work hard in order to survive. They are forced to find new ways and inventions to make the most out of their limited resources.
Thus, it has become their culture. So, as time goes by, their inventions and techniques had become far more advanced that automation is involved.
So, when automation is there, then they don't have to devote most of their time with gathering resources for survival purposes. Instead, they have enough time to invent new things like wheels, bow and arrows, etc. Remember, they were inventive, it was their culture.
Until the present, development of colder countries are far more advanced than the hotter ones.

Nice theory, but concerning arrows, the oldest known -- 50000 years BC -- have been found in Tunisia, a hot weather country, and the wheel has been invented in Mesopotamia in 3500 BC, under another hot climate. The most important invention is probably writing, invented in Egypt in 3400 BC, so I don't think that the climate has anything to do with the inventiveness of human beings.
