Nowdays the ATM machines are the computerized telecommunications device that provides the clients of the specific bank with access to financial transactions in a public space without the need of a cashier or bank teller. I use it very often a few days ago the ATM eat my card and I had to wayt 3 days for someone to come and open the machine and return the card. Thanks to the "fast" reaction of the bank staff my card was returned and today I was able to use it again whit no problems. It created a big mess in my plans and I was wondering which is better to withdraw money directly from the bank or use the ATM whit the risk of loosing more of your time?

Hello dannybosilkov and welcome to the myLot :) That is too bad about you loosing your card in the ATM machine and the response time of the bank is a shame. I suppose that if we need the money within banking ours, it would be prudent to withdraw the money from the teller, rather than risking the eating of the card in the ATM. We have gotten used to the ATM as a 'convenience' and have forgotten that there things didn't even exist a mere 30 years ago, and everyone managed. Did you see where the guy went to an ATM to get $300.00 and was given $1.5 million? I guess it was electronically transfered to his account, as I can't imagine the ATM actually giving him that much cash. Apparently he got the money then blew it gambling.

Everything happens nowdays last week there was a girl that got 5 000$ instead of 500$ when she went to the bank to check if the amount is realy in her account the employee of the bank saw the error and voided her account. Mistakes happens all the time and there will always be someone to notice them. 1.5 million is a lot of money so that is hard to be missed. If you have 1.5million in your account will you try to withdraw them or tell the bank for the error?

Hmm. Well, I know I would be caught. But then again, I could go a long way into hiding on $1.5 million and live fairly well in the process. Maybe I'll have to contend with this problem one day. Well, off to the ATM...

Wow.. Sorry to butt into your convo.. I find that hard to believe. ATM have Limits of cash it holds and usually it's never.. Millions I heard of 100k or a little more then that. Maybe in a big city like New York... Their ATMs might have even more cash since the population is much higher. I would say 300k for them.. Money is put into the ATM by People lol.. :)

Hi danny, Yes, these things do happen. After all, ATMs are only machines and no matter how reliable they make them they will still break down. However, I think this sort of incident is the exception rather than the norm. So i think one could probably live with it. After using ATMs for so long I dread to have to queue up to be attended by a human at the counter. It's really frustrating and time wasting unless one has nothing better to do. Just my thoughts. Have a great day.

thank you for your answer you are right that sometimes we miss the human side of things but incidents happen to me realy ocasionaly lately and i`m starting to get a little bit frustrated. This is the 3 time this munth that i hit on a broken ATM machine and it ruins my plans. But in life nothing happens whitout a reason so i`m glad that in the end everything turns out the way i wanted it...althought it happens late.

Hey Danny, My point of view the ATM is there for customers to have access to there money outside the bank hours. Now and days you can Make deposits and withdraws and noe cash checks and do cash deposits through the ATM. Awesome stuff but still very risky. Lucky you that you got your card back. I know most of the time at least where I live .l the banks have rules and policy that if a non bank card .. Goes through the ATM. The are must be destroy. So lest say you have a card for Bank A and you are using a BANK C card and it took your ca because you didn't grab it fast enough or for what ever reason. your card must and has to be destroy for your safety and BANK A has no info on you to contact you.. To tell you they have your Card, You are right, after all the're Pros and Cons to everything. Lol.. I work at a Bank and I see this all the time haha.. Every day haha..

In my country bank is open from 8am to 3 pm, I have class from 7 til afternoon and I get home at 4-5pm so I think to have ATM card is necessary for me because I could not go to bank. For me the plus factor of having ATM card is that its available on weekend and holidays while bank is closing during weekend and holidays. There are so many ATM centers almost everywhere in mall, in gas station, etc so I dont have to worry when I run out of cash. Whether we consider it as devil or angel is depends on how do we use the atm cards. I have 2 atm cards from 2 bank accounts, I use 1 as saving which mean i wont spend or withdraw a penny from it while the other 1 I use it to make payment. ATM machine eating our card could be happen but I think the percentage is not too high, sometime its happen but not too often. Anyway whether we want to withdraw our money from atm or cashier each has it own benefit we cannot compare to each other.

A machine is a machine. I really don't think anyone expected these machines to work flawlessly. So I am not really sure what you are saying. You are surprised that a machine ate your card? Did you not realize it is a mechanical machine? People take the risk when they use any machine, planes, elevators, cars, escalators, even revolving doors can malfunction. So we should not use machines because we could lose,(not loose), our time? Machines save our time not waste it. I certainly wouldn't want to be without A.T.M.'s. I wouldn't be able to travel more than a few feet from my bank because there are a few places such as amusement parks, etc where you need cash.
