Why Wasn't This Done In The First Place?

After tea John said, "You have to get up early in the morning on Friday - you're due a visitor."
"Am I?" I asked.
"DTP (Dave The Painter) is coming round to do some wallpapering. If there is any left over after he gets knackered my Dad's coming round to finish off on Saturday."
"Oh, right. How did this come about?"
"My Dad rang me and told me."
"So why wasn't I consulted? I'm not bothered about the fact DTP is doing the wallpapering, it just seems odd your Dad wants him round now after all this time."
"He wants it finished as soon as possible!"
I had to laugh at this point. I mean, how long has this been going on for? February? If he'd wanted it finished as soon as possible why didn't he get DTP in in the FIRST PLACE?
I can't help thinking that the MIL has had something to do with this. After all, they have the Jag now. No doubt she wants to be driven round, posing in it. Stupid woman, I can't stand her.
Oh well, hopefully Dave will get it all done so my FIL won't have to come round on Saturday. Think I'd puke at the Jag anyway if he comes round in it. Apparently, when they were going on about it to John the other day the MIL banged on about how much leg-room there is in the back. "You could drive a bus through it, it's that big," she said.
Cow. She knows our Focus hasn't got as much leg-room in the back as the Honda did. That was a slight dig as far as I am concerned.
Anyway, at least the decorating won't drag on - that's the one good thing to come out of this fiasco.

Hello Janey1966
Perhaps it would be for the best if you no longer accepted help from your in-laws since your in-laws seem to rankle you so.
I have a relative who I cannot stand, and I will not accept any help from them. This person sometimes sends me money and I will not accept it. It seems to me that that is the only way to have any integrity about the relationship.

Well, after the hallway is done (and I was talked into having it done) that's it. I've told hubby that I don't want the in-laws taking over in this house anymore. If we have to go years without having anything done decorating-wise, so-be-it, at least it will be OUR decision!

Perhaps your in laws are now busy in driving around the town in their Jag,so they have no time to do wallpapering. It is so much the better to get a painter to do it.At least you can get it finished up a little earlier.

Yes, Dave the Painter has done LOADS of wallpapering today and very entertaining he was too. I was fascinated watching him work as he's very precise without much effort. Mind you, he did praise the efforts of my FIL as he has wallpapered the highest part of the wall - so - in effect, making Dave's job easier.

I think Dave cut his teeth as a painter so it was easy for him to do it.Anyway He gave your FIL his due.
