When I was little, I did watch the Saturday night black and white movies on Philippine television entitled "Mga Aninong Gumagalaw." I was fascinated by that skinny but very funny actor called Dolphy as he essayed a role of Tanzan, a complete contradiction of the bemuscled jungle apeman Tarzan. Gosh, he made me laugh.
He went on to make movies that shocked the masa, like Facifica Falayfay, but endeared him to every Juan and Juana.
No Filipino actor had come up to Dolphy's calibre, and the old comedian had lived long enough to show he indeed is in every Filipino viewer's heart. Is there any sitcom better than John and Marsha. Perhaps Home Along the Riles.
Dolphy had made all of us happy. Come on, bestow on him the National Artist Award. He deserves it.

I do join to appriciate yoiur feelings for your actor, who enetrtained you all these yrs and deserves to be honoured by selectors, but selectors have to be made to understand. I think God will take care and we will Pray for him.

Hello my friend eileenleyva & iluvusabado86 Ji,
So nice of you for your free , frank positive comments. I consider anything on the Screen as a part of entertainment and just forget everything after coming out from cinema hall.

I am not much of a movie fan when it comes to Philippine movies, especially today when much of our movies are craps. But this comedian, he was able to charm the people. He could be president of the land had he willed to, because of his popularity, but he knew his craft and loved it, so he shooed away things not for himself. He is a real good actor.

I agree, but we all know that there is still a process that everyone has to go thru. I remember when I was a kid, watching Dolphy with Panchito ( he's partner) in black and white T.V. in a show called " Buhay artista" ( life of an actor or actress). Then in college, I seldom watch Tagalog movies in the theater but my girl friends ( 3 of them) kept insisting that we watch ( no classes because of the flood) " John and Marsha sa America ( John and Marsha in America),the movie version of the sitcom. I saw that the quality was really good and really made me laugh . Yes Dolphy is a comedian we all grew up with.

I believe that at this point, although the doctors are trying their best to extend his lease on life, Dolphy's children had offered that God's will be done. Dolphy himself, according to son Eric, does not want to be hooked up with any tube. But of course, we all pray.

He really deserves it due to his contributions not only to the showbiz industry but in our lives too in different ways. Recognizing him as one of our National Artist should be given to him. He made our lives happy and light due to the comedy and laughters he brought to us.

He is a national artist, in the truest sense of the title.

I really hope that they give it to him already the National Artist Award while he is still alive. I also pray that he recovers soon that he may still enjoy the title he truly deserves. It's really sad that we are always late in recognizing talented people in our country.

well he is really funny and also a good actor...having won a number of awards already for sure he is fortune worth keeping...but i think being a national artist awardee is not meant for him yet...there is still a lot of things to consider in getting it...well we still have to wait for sometime to know the outcome.

Yes i agree with this one eileen, i also watched his old movies and no one could ever be like him, back then he is so skinny and soooo funny but he is the endearing to the masa.
I also grew up watching home along the riles!
