Hello shivanisd
I am not planning to see the new Spiderman movie. I was not impressed with the first movie in this franchise. The second one was even worse. Frankly, I'm surprised that they keep making them.
What is it about it the Spiderman movies that appeal to you?

I'm not being at all sarcastic. How could what I said be construed as such? I was direct in answering the discussion.
You say you loved the second one. What is it about it that made you to love it? I'm sincerely asking. I am very curious as to what is appealing about the movie.

Just a thought - you're approaching this new film from the wrong angle. This new movie is a new movie. Except for Stan Lee's original characters, there is nothing about this new movie that is at all like the three Tobey Maguire films. Whole different cast, whole different production crew (writers, directors, producers, etc), whole different script. So saying that you won't see this one because you didn't enjoy the Tobey Maguire movies is a bit illogical. If you want to say you don't enjoy the Spider-Man mythos, that's fine, but don't blame it on a completely unrelated franchise. That's like saying you won't watch the new Batman movie because you didn't like the original TV series.

I'm kind of on the fence about this new movie. First of all, Peter and Mary Jane look too different in age. It might seem picky but MJ is Peter's love interest and has been for as long as they've both existed. They met in high school. But, IMHO Emma Stone looks like she's in her early to mid 30's and Andrew Garfield looks like a legit teenager. They don't match in that respect.
Also, they are changing the story. There is a rule in comic book writing that the Hero and the Nemesis have an established backstory and that doesn't change. Writers, directors, producers can tweak minor things to fit their vision but to make Peter's spider bite a part of a giant government conspiracy and to say that his parents were killed because of their involvement in said conspiracy is more than just tweaking. When you start making big changes to the original backstory, you risk alienating die hard fans not to mention if you change it too much it won't be the same character anymore.
I had heard that this new movie was using the same script as the Turn Off the Dark musical which I've figured out from the trailers is not the case but that was a little concerning to me. And that may be because when that rumor was floating around, they were still using the original book with the original cast and Julie Taymor's prized Geek Chorus, so when she was fired and the Chorus were written out, the movie producers may have decided to get their own script instead.
I know way more about Spider-Man than I really should. I am not even a hard core fan, but I am a giant sponge.

Thanks crimsonladybug for such a detailed reply to my discussion. I dont know why it has been classified as mature. You are so right that andrew and emma look mismatched in age. I didn't realize it until you mentioned it!
You certainly know a lot about spiderman for a non hard core fan. I too don't like the fact that its a reboot and not a continuation. But lets see. Thanks for replying.
Pageturner are you saying your little brother is better than a superhero? Peter Parker sacrifices his love, his life, his studies for his duty. Haven't you seen the train scene in the second movie? What more do you want? Parker doesn't hold up to your ideals? What are you talking about? He's a superhero, for god's sake!! I think you are not familiar with peter parker as a character.

Again, thank you for such a detailed response.
I agree with you about the wimpy portrayal of Peter Parker by Toby in that franchise. I think it's one of the things that really turned me off about the movies. I also did not like the MJ character at all, even though I'm not sure why.
In one regard, I really like Toby because he reminds me of my little brother a bit in how he looks, and in some regards how he acts. However, I think much higher of my brother than I do Peter Parker. It may be a subconcious dislike for Parker because he does not measure up to the ideals I have regarding my brother.
That is interesting about your photograph as well.
Peace.

hello,
First of all I want to say that i too gonna miss Tobey Maguire in this new movie. Initially when it was announced that spiderman is being rebooted and tobey is not anymore our own spiderman i was very disappointed. He was doing such a fine job. But then all the promos cam of the amazing spiderman and it looked really promising i must say. I m liking all the trailers and hoping that movie will be as good as it is trying to be and will not disappoint us fans.

Yeah i'll miss tobey too. I think he dropped out bcuz he had back problems due to the stunt scenes in the movies. I hope andrew will live upto the high expectations from him. i liked him in the social network movie. Thanks for replying.

I think people will go to see it anyway, even if only to bash it, and say that they saw it so they have the right to do so. I think that they should have stuck with spiderman 4, and not went with this reboot stuff, but after seeing the trailer, it looks like they will be explaining a lot, and there will be some cool vilians, so who knows, it could still be a good film. Put me down for going to see it.

I never really liked Tobey Maguire as Spiderman. I thought he was miscast. However, I like Andrew Garfield as Spiderman even less. Although I do think Emma Stone as Gwen is a better option than Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. Maybe I should wait to judge until I've seen the movie.
