a year ago I make a discussion about Asia Carrera, she is MENSA member, she have a high IQ, a piano playing prodigy and she is also a computer whiz but the pressure from her over strict parents makes her runaway and she ends up being a pornoActress.

lately I watched a documentary on TV about about Gifted children and what they happened to them when they grow up. In 1980's there is this boy who is said to be the smartest kid on earth. all his potential is wasted because he ends up as an employee in home depot.
Then there is boy who is said to be a Math Whiz, he graduated college at a very young and he finished more college courses. Guess what He cant find a Job and he is flipping burgers at Mcdonalds.
Then there is Guy who is also a gifted child when he is still yay high and he became a homeless crack addict.
We always have the assumption that child prodigies have a good future when they grow up but why lots of them failed their potential?

I think that everyone wants to be treated the same in some respects. I'm sure these kids like the fact they're 'special' but would love the normalcy that being ordinary provides. There's so much pressure on them. There's so much expectation and you grow up fast and they miss out on fun and being silly and it's a massive shame. I think the biggest crime is that people aren't allowed to grow up pure. That is to say, we are all influenced by each other. We all have to deal with other peoples problems as well as our own and everyone trys to influence us. When you're one of these kids, you can imagine all the crap they have to deal with and you know what? You mention Asia, from what I gather, she's turned out fine. Happy. And I think that's a mistake on your part to include her and maybe one or two others because the key question is this - are they happy? Or to put it another way, are they happier? Asia wasn't happy growing up by all accounts, now she is. Yes the world missed out but so did she. Being a child prodigy is tough because it attracts an element of society that's very controlling and very negative in a child's evolution. I think it's a shame that these kids aren't just allowed to be kids because it might actually encourage them to pursue their field of expertise as opposed to abandoning it for happiness.

parents seemed to have tendency to pressure their gifted child to have super highgrades and doesnt allow them to play. I bet the parents choose the college courses of these kids. Thinking back about Asia, she seemed to be happy for her life now, she quit doing adult videos but she earns royalties from her videos, they still sell and I heard she is a computer programmer now.

the number 1 school system in the world right now is in Finland, They were number 1 in Math. Guess what kids only study 5 hours a day, They have a very relaxed system and they dont show the scores of kids in exams and their grades in school. teachers have a customize of style of teaching for each student(they have numbers of students per class) according to their strengths. Guess what 98 percent are graduating and have careers.

Most child prodigies, most of the times, are treated in a really unique way. Parents and teachers tend to think they are going to achieve everything if they are forced to practice everytime or treated as an emperor. Both ways of treating them is absolutely wrong in that sense that they are not let live a healthy social life. That means two things:
-they are perfect in theair areas, but they wouldn't be hired as they are socially awkward... no matter how competent you are, if you are hard to work with (because you're conceited or too reserved or just can't decipher basic gestures and signs), you're not going to be hired
-no childhood means that they feel burnt out at a really young age, and that could cause them study, but not seeing why they are doing that and become indifferent and nihilistic.

so what do you think is the best way to give a gifted child a normal life and at the same time live their potential? How to make sure that they can use their strengths and at the same time will be inspired to live their dreams and work hard.

Hello CaptainALbert, I felt sad about these Gifted people, yeah, I've watch Asia Carera's videos. But i didn't realize how smart and talented she was. they were a lot of many people even in our country who chose to live a normal life, something part of the society rather than isolated from it. too bad i think strong character plays a bigger role, and she couldn't take it anymore

Remember the Promil Kid Shaira Luna, I remember when she is 10 years old she is able to perform an operation and remove a woman's tumor.(sounds so illegal cos she is not a doctor) everyone expects her to be a a doctor. she finished Highschool at very young age and enrolled to college in a very young age. But she rebelled, she didnt finished her course to be a doctor.... she quits College, because she thinks she is not happy, now she is a Photographer and has a live in partner.
