Im wandered about something for a while, I may sound ignorant but I ust dont understand so please dont think me ignorant or racist or anythign like that. Im seeking knowledge. Ive never understood the name or purpose behind the spot on the forehead of some indian women, also why are they sometimes different colours, I just noticed the colour is sometimes linked to the colour clothes or accessories they have on. Please enlighten me.

Geat "best response" selected. This is something I've always wondered about, and I'm sure folks in other parts of the world have questions about our own culture, and will need to ask in ways that they can't express, because like we don't always know the name of the "dot" they may not know the names of the thing about which they have questions.

I checked it at the web. It says this: "The bindi is arguably the most visually fascinating of all forms of body decoration. Hindus attach great importance to this ornamental mark on the forehead between the two eyebrows -- a spot considered a major nerve point in human body since ancient times. Also loosely known as 'tika', 'pottu', 'sindoor', 'tilak', 'tilakam', and 'kumkum', a bindi is usually a small or a big eye-catching round mark made on the forehead as adornment." I think it is beautiful. Several of out Hinu friends here have it when they post their pictures as avatars.
