So today I was driving down the road and right there in the middle was a cell phone that obviously someone dropped. Well, this cellphone is destroyed - driven over and over by many cars by this time. After I came to the next red light, I said to myself, I wonder what that person is going through now. If that was their life line, if they don't care and will just get a new one, if it was stolen...etc. This led me to realize how much of our lives are dependent on our cellphones. Can we live without them? We never had them before I am sure we can manage. I personally cringe every time my cellphone goes off. But then I just look at the screen and it will tell me if it is worth picking up. 20 years ago, we would just have to pick up and take the risk. Times have changed so much and in all truth, we are just becoming more and more dependent on technology. What are your thoughts?

Hello gottasayit74. Welcome to mylot. Cellphones are very convenient and they give people an edge when it comes to responding at a moments notice. Maybe we cannot always answer a call, but there are safer ways to respond while driving and so forth. Sometimes depending on the nature of things, the cellphone truly becomes a lifeline. I am accustomed to having a landline and use a cellphone occasionally. When I drive, I never want to be without my cellphone. Technology opens us up to the possibilities of convenience through science, but privacy is an issue. I guess we depend on technology as much as we allow ourselves to.

Thank you for the warm welcom adforme. As I had mentioned above..I have no idea how my parents managed without cell phones. I feel much more comfortable knowing that they have one with them all the time now, you never know when there will be an emergency and they will have to use it to either call myself or an ambulance!!

I think you have a point. I remember when I had my first computer, having offline computer games was alreay enough for me. I can enjoy my computer that way. But when internet came, I find my laptop useless many times if it has no internet connection. Yes, I guess that can be called as dependent. But we must also admit that those technologies have really made our lives easier. Before, I don't use cellphone and said that it's not necessary. But when my family and I decided to meet at a mall and I was caught in heavy traffic, that's when I realized how important our cellphones are. I could easily send them a message to inform them that I will be late because of the situation. But because I don't have one that time, I made them all worry. Like many other things in our lives, some has their own advantages and disadvantages.

I do agree, cellphones now are one of our life lines. I do feel a lot more comfortable since we purchased a cell phone for my son. I just don't know how my parents could handle the stress of not knowing where I was at times....LOL

Onviously yes. Most people are now dependent on technology. As for me, i'm not dependent on my phone. I'm much more dependent on my laptop and internet mainly because i work online. But as we look back people did live without those digital stuff. I'm born in 1980's meaning i grew up without those things and looking back it was really fun. Friends bonded differently, we write letters, call through landlines, hang out with just guitar as company. We used to talk about what time should we meet and just wait for like 30-45 mins for the person to show up etc. We take pictures and wait for like a day for you to know if you looked like hell with the shots.

Yes, sometimes I just wish there were some type of rewind button out there!
