great topic!
now, what i think is the biggest problem of the Philippines right now? as far as i believe, poverty is still topping the list. even though our dedicated president and his staffs, the senate, the congressmen, and so on and so forth, are doing their best to improve the lives of every Filipino, it is still not enough. many of our fellows still hunger, but someday with both from our leaders's and the people's efforts and initiative, this problem might be lessen slowly but surely.

For me, it is political maturity of our people. We tend to always create this division amongst our politicians that they can never be reconciled in to moving together as one when political exercise has been done with and decided already. There is still division between those that lose and those that won. And those that lose always are claiming they have been cheated on and would fight to the end to put the other party down. Progress would never move unless our politicians would starting to act together as one.
If we look into US politics, yes there is heavy bickering amongst one another during election period, but, when the are done and a winner is declared all political parties remain silent and work back together as one. I think we should also adopt this kind of attitude to make things easier for this country to move on.

I completely agree with [n]nadrolski[/b] on this one.
Poverty has been one of the problems the country has been having and like other countries as well. The only sad part though is that most of the people in the country think the same, that there is no hope for the country, that this is a poor nation and so on with negativity that most of it's citizens are considering to give an effort to actually venture abroad and find employment there.
Always saying phrases like 'I don't have money..' or 'Life is so hard.. so much that they actually habituate what they say.
So much negativity not only about the condition of the country but also for themselves. Thinking that when you are born poor, you would die poor, which is totally false as you can read, hear or even see actual people who came from poverty yet managed to become better. However, the majority will still refrain from being optimistic, refrain into looking at that successful individual who over came poverty and justify phrases like, 'He/She just got lucky..' (-_-")
If the country wants to improve on this kind of situation, they should encourage it's citizens to have an Abundance mind set since most of it's citizens are still maintaining this mind set of Scarcecity..
Due to such a mind set, they develop doubt and suspicion to even those who are well of. And even envy to the extent of saying bad things about other people who are better than them. When in fact, a lot of opportunities are available for them utilize to change their lives for the better. When you offer opportunities, they would even have excuses for not being able to even see what they opportunity is about. Having minds that are so closed that even the Greatest Opportunities are shun away.
Here is a really good example: If this country is really hopeless, how come even foreign people come here to invest on businesses?
Another thing that I can say which is a factor that contributes to this poor way of thinking is the dramas they watch on television. I mean, most of the story that they watch every evening has nice poor characters being maltreated by these nasty rich people. Again and again, they watch this things and subconsciously, they get programmed that being poor is okay 'cause rich people are mean.
All I can say is that, if this country wants to change, they have to start from the inside, and that is to change the mind set of it's people. ('_^ )

I don't think it's about having too many highly intellectual people that's causing our problems but it's the contrary. Poverty is our biggest problem which is the result of couples making more children that they can feed. I don't think a highly intellectual person would make such a decision. for me that's a stupid and irresponsible decision. And I think there are more stupid people doing that kind of decision everyday than there are highly intellectual people debating over nothing in this country.

Hi jsae29!
For me, you are right in some instance.. but for me what really the caused of our country's problem is the personality in totality of us and those in the public office...
If you have noticed, now a days politics is now a business..seldom of those aspiring for a public office run with a selfless intention, most of them run to have fame, money and great opportunity for their own dreams or career,in short .. they are using this opportunity to materialize their own objectives...
But we cannot totally blame them..also the people who voted them who failed to use their mental faculties in assessing who deserves for a certain position.
So, the fact that the people offered there votes for some monetary consideration , that is obviously has big impact on the exercise of their freedom to choose the best person for a certain position. What we are experiencing today is the consequences of what they did in the past election.

Lack of discipline is the main problem . People want to do what they want to do. They have no discipline. Everybody wants to be the leader who only gives orders. Nobody wants to be a follower who only accept orders. That is why it is chaotic I tell you. The jeepney drivers , buses and taxis are so dangerous in the streets that you are always scared that your car would be hit. You can also frequently see them beating the red light
