I had to get glasses when I was 11 yrs old and really don't remember what it was like without them. I do remember the ride home after getting my glasses - the signs along the road had words on them!! Later, in high school, I got contac lens and wore them for about 6 yrs. That was fine but the hard contac lens sometimes hurt and the soft lens tore to easily so I went back to glasses. I often wondered what it would be like to not have to wear contacts or glasses. To wake up in the morning and be able to see without putting on glasses. Now I know! It's great!! I can wear real sunglasses, not clip ons. The only drawback is that I have to wear reading glasses when I use the computer or read anything within 2-3 feet. But that's not a big deal to me. When we go on vacation, I can go swimming and still see! The procedure doesn't take very long at all. The prep work takes longer than the actual procedure. At first, I was scared of having lasik surgery. My friend is a nurse and got a job at a local lasik clinic. She had her eyes done first. It went well for her, so I wasn't as scared to get mine done. The nurse explained the procedure in detail as far as what would happen first, next, etc. And the doctor explained what he was going to do during the procedure. It really put me at ease. I would definitely recommend lasik surgery to anyone who was tired of wearing glasses or contacs. Just make sure and go to a reputable lasik clinic. Research places near you before you decide on a place.

The cost of laser eye surgery is very high and not at all affordable. I am scared of laser eye surgery. I don't know exactly what the prep work is and what exactly happens in the laser work in the eyes. I have a pair of glasses but most the time in the day I wear my daily disposable contact lenses. I put in my contact lenses in the morning and throw them away just before I go to bed. Wearing them is totally different than wearing glasses. I use my laptop a lot and wouldn't like to wear glasses to do that. I will carry on wearing contact lenses and be too nervous to get laser eye surgery. Good on you for going through that procedure.

I know what you mean, I was scared also. When I went for consultation to see if I was a good fit for lasik, they explained the procedure. The prep work is 2 different eye drops that you put in a few times a day for one week prior to lasik. Then the day of the lasik I had to be there 45 minutes early so they could explain everything that they were going to do. They gave me valium to relax me and that took 30 min to kick in. Right before the lasik and a couple times during the lasik they put drops in to numb your eyes. They do each eye separately (at least my doctor did) and the actual procedure for both eyes only took 20 min!

Lasik surgery helped a lot of people to get their vision back without the help of lenses or gases. This treatment is really god for those ones who doesn't love to year lenses or glasses. The only problem is that lasik surgery is little bit costly. This surgery has arised due to the improvement in the technology and most of the researcher proves that it do not bring much sides affects.

Yes, it is expensive. I was fortunate enough to have the money for it. They do have payment plans which are helpful. When lasik first came out it actually made some people have worse vision. I said "No way am I having that done!" But that was like 20+ years ago.
