Are you addicted to internet browsing?

Are you among those who have become addicted to browsing the web? For over three years now, I have used the internet to research topics for freelance online writing tasks, and I've deprived myself of sleep doing so. For the past 2 years, for staying up-to-date with friends through social networking sites. Do you find yourself addicted to the internet, too? If so, how long do you stay glued to your laptop screen or end up using your phone to go online?

I know I`m quite guilty about this discussion. Yes i am somehow addicted to internet. But i can still control myself. Like for example if i am out the whole day and i`m home tired and i want to sleep but i need to check some mails, i would rather sleep and check it the next day. But if my day off comes or i don`t have to do in a late afternoon, i can surf the net until the next day, four in the morning without knowing it !! checking my facebook, reading news and manga online is really addictive i guess

Agreed. That is why we need to control our self and be responsible. Let us do our chores or anything before we sit up, surf the net and enjoy. I am reminding my children too about this stuff. Of course they think that i am strict when it comes to internet. What they don`t know is that i don`t want them to be addicted especially as a student like they will come to a point where they will forgot their homework or to review in an exam just because of internet. That i don`t want to happen

Many of us have become addicted to the internet. It does have pros and cons. While you can pick up many worthwhile information... there are also lots of mindless stuff that can rob us of sleep or eat up out time, preventing us from doing other things like chores at home.

I don't consider myself addicted to internet browsing although it is my favorite way of spending time at home and I spend long hours, but I have limits,I don't waste my sleeping hours on the web if I know that I have to go work the next day,and when I manage to get out for a day or two and spend my time away from home,I can enjoy myself even without Internet.I try to keep a balance and avoid becoming an internet addict, because, even if it is very exciting,it can damage people's social lives and abilities to communicate with others face-to-face,which is always much more interesting than chatting with strangers online.

Indeed, more and more people connect with others through the internet, and it has given rise to a phenomenon or movement called "gorundswell" wherein people obtain what they need from technologies rather than the traditional way -- from corporations. Maintaining a balance between face-to-face interaction and online encounters is a good thing.

Not real addiction in the strictest term of reference...but it is of course constant logging in to retrieve useful information and at time to seek out entertainmment material which are easily available in plenty.

Good for you... exercising restraint or moderation in all things is a virtue. It's great to be able to have a tool that you can use, though, when you need one.

I am not addicted to internet, and I know I can browse the web or stop whenever I like it. I don't want it to happen to me, to be controlled by a device or a computer. I will be the one to control how I use it in a beneficial way. I make sure that I have enough sleep and I do not exchange my health condition for the sake of browsing the web.

Yes, it's very important to have self-discipline. I admire people who don't allow gadgets or technologies to take control of them.

If you constantly use the internet to socialise then it is a problem. One it is physically bad for you because you can damage your eyes and also get really unfit (possibly cause blood clots for sitting so long) and two it is socially bad for you because you lose the art of conversation which involves not just conveying a point but body language and gestures which the internet cannot pick up fully (even Skype is limited in this way due to poor picture quality most times). Plus you are braver if you can confront someone about a problem in person. Too many people are using the internet or cell phones to break up with someone or tell some bad news. Try the difference sometime.....

Some people have become impersonal in dealing with others, that's true. They use their cellphones and social networking sites to express things that can better be conveyed in person. Too bad, isn't it?

There are a lot of people who are addicted to internet browsing, and I think that this is certainly something that we do need to be aware of. I am not addicted, because I know that I could live without the internet if I needed to, however I can get carried away when I have something that I need to search for. You can go to look for one thing, and then before you know it over an hour has passed and you're looking at something that is completely different to the things that you were looking for in the first place. So we do have to be careful that we limit our time that we spend on the internet.

Extending the time I've allotted for internet browsing happens to me all the time. Most of the time, my mind's set on just using the net for researching a business case study or article I'm working on, and the next thing I know, I'm chatting with friends or a part of family I haven't seem for a long time in social networking sites, checking email messages, and reading lots of other stuff I didn't plan to read. I do have to limit the time I spend browsing the web because it has deprived me of much needed sleep for quite some time already. Anyone else here who's sleep deprived due to continuous or prolonged internet browsing?

As using internet every day, I am fully addicted to it. Don't know how, but it is a fact. Nowadays I can not sleep well with out browsing for a while here on net. I usually spend more than 6 hours daily on internet. What about you? I am sure that it will be harder me for me to get out of this addiction.

I supplement my income through online writing, so I need to research a lot offhours (since i have a regular 9 to 6 job). In the process, I inadvertently spend much time online and I've become somewhat sleep-deficient because of it, which should not be the case.

unfortunately, you can become addicted to the internet, I know people who just turn on your computer when you wake up, for whom the Internet is a whole swiat.Godzinami not eat, do not talk with anyone, tylkomprzegladaja next page, for me it is sick, I believe that as in all things should be moderate, everything is for the people, but for smart people.

I agree that all things must be done in moderation. The internet, however, has zoomed on top of the list as a potential money earner. Many people nowadays use it for work. In my case, i use it as a research tool for online writing, but yes, things sometimes go out of hand. Internet addiction can be very time-consuming. It kind of lessens people's time to interact with others on a face-to-face basis. it's up to the person himself/herself to step on the brakes.

I am not so sure if i am addicted. First of all, i go online almost every day. In the morning to check on my mails before i go to work. Also check on my facebook if there's any messages or any hilarious post posted by some of my friends. Then when i return home, i do the same routine and also i play some online games. But here's the thing, you say addicted. I did for many times, unable to go online for a few days due to work commitment or just got bored going online. If i am addicted i would probably have this hands shaking or urge to at least go online even for a few minutes, but i don't have those symptoms. Even my phone, i used to own an Iphone but i decided to sell it to my cousin as i don't find it exciting as in, i used it just to call, text and facebooking which i end up find it boring. So i'm proud to say i am not addicted. Plus as of now, i spend a lot of time after work at the gym so my time on the internet got lesser and lesser.

It's up to people, really, to use exercise self-control in activities and in the use of tech tools and product breakthroughs. While the internet helps us in so many ways, like communicating instantly with others and researching, we may sometimes get carried away and spend a huge chunk of our day online. Good thing we know when to stop and not really fall under the "addicted" category/
