Are Women Still Cooking?

I know how to cook because i was taught as a child to cook. It used to be a method that women used to get men. But these days, when you meet a woman, its very seldom that they cook or even know how. The only generation of women that are still cooking are literally in their upper 30s and older. So if they arent cooking now, and everyone born before the 80 die off, what is going to happen then? Will we be fast food for life! Can i get a home cooked meal..please!

while i must agree that cooking and home-tending practices are now different than they once were, the psychoartist wonders if your premise that most cooking women are over thirty...i have seen many women professional cooks, pastry chefs, and home cooks who are young...furthermore, i don't see why men cannot cook as well...my father was a much better cook than my mother and became quite accomplished as a home cook...even baking...mr. psychoartist himself is much better cooking some dishes than i am...mr. psychoartist and i , though no longer in our first flush of youth, are very happy cooking together and sharing household responsibilities...perhaps you may enjoy learning to cook and honing such a necessary and delightful accomplishment!

Yes women are still cooking. I know how to cook since I was in grade school my grandmother taugh me and I come more good in cooking when I was in high school because of home economic subject. I got married when I was 23 years old from the very first day that we live together as husband and wife I am the one who is in-charge on cooking. Everyday I cooked for our daily meals because it is more affordable, delicious and healthy. I think lots of women are still cooking and many of young generation who loves to cook too. So in the future I think still have women cooking for their daily meals and I can noticed also that more people are preferred to have a homemade meal than fast food for healthy reason.

See thats what i mean. At least you take the time to cook for your husband. Some women these days act as if you ask them to rob a bank when you ask for a cooked meal!

Perhaps it is true that not every woman knows how to cook since they have their own careers and they are too busy to do so. Or they have family who will cook for them. But I think anybody who can still learn how to cook. Eating is a basic needs. So I am sure they will learn it even if currently they have no idea to cook.

I still know many women who know how to cook. I in fact have a friend from whom I ordered a cake (it was delicious, mind you. Gateau au Chocolat is always a good treat).
It's always a stereotype that men often don't know how to cook, but many of the great chefs in the world (ironically) are men. I remember people who were so desperate that they had a ramen noodle/salisbury steak dinner for quite a while before they learnt to cook.

I think there are some women and men who were not taught the importance of cooking a home meal and rely on fast food. I find that cooking in the kitchen as a whole family, even if it making something as simple as spaghetti allows the family to be together and talk about their day or anything else they want to talk about. Some people who learned to cook were not taught by someone who should ever cook though. My mother for example loves to cook, but some of the things that come out of her kitchen are better to be used for ammo. Luckily my dad is a great cook and showed me how to take simple recipes and make them even better with little adjustments. We are moving as a country to more of an out to eat people, but there are still some out there, like in my family, to where cooking is a family event and NOT women's work.

Of course women still cook, there's a few whom i know around midd 20's or still in their teen who knows how to cook a simple meal for lunch and dinner. Having a busy parents or when they stay alone or at a dormitary, they need to fend themselves. Cooking for ownself is another way to save, compare to eating fast food which sometimes taste terrible but expansive.
These women will grow up and become mothers and by then they will be cooking for their children as well. So no worries, there will always be women cooks.

I just wish things were a little slower and people did things naturally again. This stuff is too much...and its actually killing us softly. But i guess since everything is fast now a days..they dont even notice it!

My kids do cook for me and the youngest is 15 years old. I think it is still important, like what you have said for a woman to know how to cook. Even if there is a lot of food in can, microwavable or deliver foods it still add points to a guy to know that the girl knows how to cook i guess. Teenage nowadays should know that, instead of sticking to shopping and facebook.

I think that a lot of women do still like cooking, but it is something that we don't have as much time to do as we might have done in the past. This is because we have so much more to do in our lives than ever before, and we just don't have the time to spare to sit and cook a full meal. But I always try to cook at least at the weekends, as this means that I can make sure that the things that I'm eating are healthier than they would have been if I had chosen to either go out for a meal or buy some food in from somewhere.

All my friends still cook the evening meal in our house cooking can take place at least twice a day.I always cook the evening meal from scratch it is so much better for you that way and often a darn site cheaper as well. My son will cook mid-day if he is around or supper in the evening just snacks like cheese on toast or tinned soup.I know what you mean I am in my fiftys we were taught to cook at home and school.The schools only teach them to make cakes now.Well thats no good is it.To be quiet honest I don't know what is going to happen to children not eating properly junk food seems to be the way these days.they say 60% of people in the uk are over weight or obese what a terrible thing.Heart disease will kill them off early.Besides why don't men cook the evening meal womans roles are changing.The younger women work as well they keep themselves and are independent so you young men will have to get the cook book out.Good luck.

I know how to cook, and cook for myself quite often. I was cooking for my dad since I was big enough to be able to learn HOW to cook some things. My husband is VERY picky, and will hardly eat anyones cooking except for his own, so I never cook for him.
If I have a daughter I think I'll get her gramma to teach her how to cook. In fact I'll probably get her to help teach my son how to cook also, because boys need to know how to cook for themselves too because they wont always have a woman around to feed them. lol
I'm in my lower 30s. (Turned 31 today in fact)

every woman can cook, especially because they can easily find the recipe from internet and there are a lot of instant ingredient on store now. I even learn how to cook not from my mother, but from the book. nothing to worry...

I got your point. I know it's always have different value for those who traditionally have ability to cook and those who learn instantly, but as long as they have desire to cook for their family, there's no big difference in my view

well i understand that they can..but what about the ones that say they arent cooking..never had to..and dont think its a big deal. I know there are still some traditional people in this world but there are some that are accustomed to the fast food line!

I recently found a saying on Facebook which said that the days whan women cooked like their mothers are gone; now they drink like their fathers. I don't know if thet's completely true, but it is a fact that women nowadays do not cook as much as they used to, some yars ago. I, for instance, know how to cook since I was a teenager, but I don't like to do it. I am fortunate that I don't hve to. I am curious what will happen when I will have children.

In my home my dad and mom can bote cook. At the most time, my mom cook for us because my dad has to work. When my mom feels not good or not at home, my father do the cook. They doesn't make it for a rule that it's a duty for whose. Sometime I also can cook some simple dishes. I think it's not women's duty to cook, that is a right which can be an advantage or given up.

I love to cook but its a matter of what my kids will eat since they are so picky and what I can afford as far as food goes. Eating healthy can be quite expensive. Tonight I plan to make cheese breadsticks like they have at pizza hut. That is something that I know both my kids and I will love. I didnt learn how to cook until I moved out of my parents house because my mother didnt like us in her way in the kitchen.

You know it depends on how the person was raised. I think if both parents work full time they probably do eat out more and buy frozen meals and just don't ahve the time to do it. But on the other hand I cook alot more since having a family. It's not that I was eating out but I would say have a bowl of cereal or a pbj instead of cooking an actual meal. I'm teaching my kids how to cook even my son. It's important to be able to cook for yourself.

Hai friend..I am girl..Today, in this modern world,girls are not much aware of cooking..some of them will say this openly to the public as proud..But in my view,that is shame..and my mother teached me that how to cook all curries..she will call me on the time when I was about 3,4 years and I watched the all techniques from her..Now on the vacation time,my mother will not see the kitchen..all are my duty to cook food..Thanks

Hello lafredricktaylor
I have also wondered if people are cooking anymore. It seems that our society has gotten used to the idea of instant gratification, and eating falls into this category as it is easier for some to simply buy a ready cooked meal, whether it be fast food or something of quality.
My father was an excellent cook, much better than my mother (although my mother was a good cook.) My father, not my mother, taught me how to cook. However, I am nowhere near the cook that my father was. Why? Because I haven't tried. Oh, I have some meals that I cook and have developed somewhat over the years, but I would never consider myself a good cook, although others are kind and say that I am.
We may live without poetry, music and art;
We may live without conscious, and live without heart;
We may live without friends; we may live without books;
But civilized man cannot live without cooks.
We may live without books -- what is knowledge but grieving?
We may live without hope -- what is hope bt deceiving?
We may live without love -- what is passion but pining?
But where is the man who can live without dining?
