A nice topic. For me it is difficult to answer, but I am trying to reply on the basis of my own experiences.I have tried to control my dreams, but in vain.I frequently dream of a house in a desolated place that's haunted.Back during my childhood I had once had a dream of a football match that was so pleasant and interesting that I can describe it before you even now.I have tried to have the same dream again, but failed. Now I often dream of myself flying like birds, but I can't have this dream at my will.In fact,I am looking forward to someone who can tell me how I can do it.

It's great to know we have the same interests. He he he. There are some dreams we want to keep on dreaming but whenever you want to dream it, you dream of other things or even not dream at all. *sigh*. Well, i hope we find the answer. Have a great day!

Actually, if the dreams you are implying are the ones we get to have while we sleep, you simply have to influence your subconscious.
Our subconscious is often the one we get to ignore when we grow up or leave behind when we get to enter our routine which most people call or consider as reality.
When we were young or still small, our minds were open. We can simply play make believe without the actual things needed to convince our senses that it is real. Fight dragons like knights who are in an adventure to rescue a damsel in distress. Be an Indian or a Cowboy riding a stallion across the valley. Even an astronaut discovering new planets across the galaxy. Regardless if we have only boxes or a string when we were young, we were able to feel with our imagination effortlessly.
However, while growing up, we end up developing our reasoning. That things can only be qualified as reality if they pass through our senses of sight, sound, smell, taste and/or touch. We get to adapt to what we perceive through our surroundings. While this sense of maturity develops, having our conscious mind becoming dominant, our subconscious gets more difficult to access. Kind'a like our conscious mind would be the bouncer who doesn't allow anything to enter our subconscious if it doesn't qualify.
Now, to get to influence what you want your subconscious to think about requires a lot of effort. 'Practical' or 'Realistic' influences from a lot of people while growing up. School is also one of the things that helped our conscious mind to be so fortified, childish dreams end up reality bound.
Anyway, for you to control what you want to dream about, you simply need to think about what you want to dream about. So how can we sneak pass the 'conscious' bouncer and go directly to the subconscious mind, which most of our dreams come from? We just do the 'thinking of our dreams' phase a few minutes when we are actually close to sleeping. That means we turn on our imagination right away when we already feel sleepy.
This doesn't always guarantee that you will immediately get to dream what you want to dream right away. That's why it takes a lot of effort. So one would need to do this habitually.
This may sound silly at first, but you really won't have anything to lose when you do it continuously.
Now, what may sound really silly is that, when you get to to this so much, making your subconscious dominant once more like how you were able to tap into it while being young, you can eventually make those dreams into reality, one way or another. ('_^ )
Of course, some might argue about it like, 'Can I really think of Unicorns so much that they would become a reality?

You can also try making a video of what you want to dream about and watch it by the time you are about to go to bed or feel really sleepy. It really helps because during the minutes that you are about to sleep or feeling sleepy, that's when the conscious mind is at rest and the subconscious is active.
That way, when you watch something while your subconscious is active, you might end up dreaming some of the scenes that you have last watch ('_^ )

Hi halfbloodace, I used to practice remembering my dreams but haven't tried it recently. The way to do that is to place a pen and paper on a night stand by your bed so that you see it immediately upon awakening. It is important to write down the dream immediately because if you fall back to sleep you will forget it. You should also concentrate on remembering your dreams before you fall asleep. I have also heard of people training their mind to dream pleasant dreams and that would I think be done in much the same way. Don't work too hard at it and be patient as it may take several nights or even weeks to get started, just don't give up but happily think of what you want to dream about before you fall asleep. Don't work at it, but let it be a pleasant experience. Hope this helps. Blessings.

You are more likely to dream about a particular subject, if that all that you are thinking about as you get ready to sleep. However, no one has real control of their dreams. If we did, no one would have nightmares.

The most I can guess (whoever said brain-working was 'an exact science' is ... well, he's wrong ) is to think about it all the time, watch movies about it, read books about it, write about it, especially in your bedtime diary (or a regular diary just before you go to bed.)
I don't dream very often, but maybe that's just because I think about 'nothing' as I go to sleep

Not possible.
We have dreams as just another of
so many ways of being able to
understand who we really are and
what our spirit wants for us - so
we can be healed, whole
individuals.
When we sleep, our unconscious
self, or our spirit, is set free. So
sometimes what you think is a
dream is actually you, the real
inner you, off on some adventure
on another realm.
That realm could be of an episode
of your life from the past, like
childhood, to heal or resolve an
issue that's still affecting you now,
that's why sometimes in your
dreams you're a child again -
you're spirit is accessing that
memory or time in your life.
The key is to pay attention to your
dreams. Ask the universe for
assistance to help you do this
before you sleep. And keep a
dream book and with time they
will all make sense.

Dream control is commonly associated with lucid dreaming, which is being aware of the fact that you're dreaming within a dream. Personally, I've never experienced much dream control but I can usually dream about certain subjects by dwelling on them during the night. For instance, if I wanted to dream about fairy tales... I would read fairy tale books, watch fairy tale movies, discuss fairy tales with friends and family, draw fairy tale artwork, etc. etc.
In order to lucid dream, I think the best method for beginners is the wake-back-to-bed method. You set your alarm for earlier than you would need to get up and when you wake up you spend a little bit of time outside of bed. Then, you go back to bed, and you should fall straight back into REM sleep with a heightened awareness. That will probably give you the ability to recognize that you're dreaming almost immediately.

Hi halfbloodace, you are really funny.
Why do you want to have dreams when you should request for a dreamless and deep sleep.
The best sleep happens when your brain completely shut down, and you do not even know where you are.
Kids are very fortunate where sleep is concerned.
Most of them cannot even wake up when the thunder claps so loudly.

Thank you for that unique perspective about dreaming. He he he. Well, i like to dream alot because when i dream and then wake up, then i realized my dream was good, it gives me assurance that in the real world, i may be limitless (specifically my brain). Also, i like to dream about impossible things because they are interesting, and would be more interesting if i could control the flow of my dream. He he he. Have a great day!

One thing I've noticed about dreaming is if something bothers me, that's what I will usually dream about. If I've thought about a certain incident (may it have realistically happened or something I just pictured in my mind), that's what I would dream about. If I see something in the TV and it stuck to my mind before I would sleep, I'll most likely dream about it. Most of the time, the last thing I've endearingly thought of would be the thing I would dream about.
Have you ever felt that you knew you were in your dreams and upon realizing this, you decide to do whatever you want since you know you're just in a dream? Well, there are instances that I've experienced that, too.

For me, I should let it be cause most of the time we don't remember it and it is a dream not reality.

I don't think that is possible. Dreams come from our unconsciousness, which dictates the images we see during a dream. However, I did manage a few times to 'control' my dreams. Once, I dreamt that I was shot and almost dying. And then I said: wait, this is MY OWN dream, I CANNOT DIE! And the dream continued, with me being fine again. Some other time I had an interesting dream and then I woke up because of a noise i heard. I got back to sleep, and I was oncentrating very hard on continuing my dream. And I managed...

That is a very interesting case. I think when we dream, we are subconscious because we are aware we are dreaming, that's the way you controlled your dream in your case. Well, thanks.

sometimes I want to dream about something too, and always I can't manage to do that as you do. Dream comes from our subconscious sense, maybe we can't control. But if you are eager to meet something or someone, you could think he or it deeply.

You can control your dreams, especially when you are having a lucid dream. But it requires a lot of training to have a lucid dream and to control one. You may have already experience lucid dreaming but don't know about it it. You can try and perhaps keep a dream journal. It is a journal that you keep right next to your bed so that the second you get up, you can start recording what you dreamt. You can also constantly ask yourself during the day whether or not you are dreaming (day-dreaming) and eventually this will become a habit that you will do at night.

He he he, well, for starters, i think we should just believe we can control our dreams. Sadly, it takes patience and practice to control our dreams. If i could already control my dream, i would dream about my crush all the time. He he he, maybe even invite her. Anyway, thanks and have a great day!

Apparently one can control their dreams,it is called lucid dreaming. However, it takes years of practice as the subconscious mind tends to be irrational and almost crazy. Hypnosis is one way. As a therapist myself, I have often instructed clients to dream about the source of any stress they may have (for instance). The dreams will always tend to be symbolic and they would need then to analyse these dreams. But dreaming about specific things, is a lot harder and as I said, would take many years of practice and discipline with self-hypnosis and meditation etc. As a Zen practitioner, I have no desire to control my dreams as I don't see life as something to be managed that way, but as a process of learning how to deal with situations. The main principle of Zen practice is being in the here and now, and being a witness to all that comes in life. _Derek

One of the ways that I have tried is to go to bed and keep thinking of what I want to dream of till I fall asleep. I have usually found that recurring in my dream but whether that dream will be good or bad, whether it will give me delight or irritate or instill fear in me, I can never control. But usually if I want to dream of a person, I have tried this tactics of thinking about him till drooping into sleep and I have been able to see that person in my dreams. But these have been either pleasant or unpleasant. I could never influence them. Sometimes I see strange dreams involving things I had been thinking about just before sleeping.

I think it takes practice, plus you have to be half awake and half asleep.. if you know what I mean. I have no idea how, but I am able to control my dreams, but unlike the one that you are describing. Like you wanted to dream this kind of scene. Mine is like, I just dream -dreams... and when a dream doesn't suit my taste, I could always say "nah, I don't like it, let's change it to this happening instead."
Maybe try to envision what you what to dream about for like the whole day. Maybe you'll get lucky and get the dream you like.

Yes, I think that if you go to sleep letting your mind wonder about it, without you trying to control so much just let it flow through you and always come back to the dream you plan, the subject everytime you fly away. It's really, really hard though but I could dream on purpose like a couple of times.

I think I have an answer to your question. Though not a very authenticated one but something from my experiences. You can very well control your dream. You might have experienced that if you work for whole day in your office for quite a few days, you will definitely see something related to the same. You think for some holiday destination, plan out everyday for the same, remain enthusiastic and you end up reaching there during some nights.
I think you get to see the dreams of things you get completely indulged into. I also saw in some informative channel that dreams are just a revision. Only seldom it happens that you get to see the things you haven't heard or seen before.
