shoe cleaning floormat

I thought this was a neat idea a company in Japan has come up with a floormat that will vacuum the dirt and debris from your shoes. It's a neat idea but I'd be curious how practical it would be for everyday people? I know I hate all the junk that gets trampled thru the house in the summer in particular grass. Perhaps this idea would be of better use in an industrial or commercial setting? Would you use such a gadget if it was available?

Depending on the cost, I might. We have a swimming pool so a lot of grass does come in during the summer, but during the winter the boots bring in sand from the roads and the little black things from the artificial turf at indoor soccer. It would be helpful but not sure whether it would completely eliminate this stuff. Again, it would depend on the cost and how effective it is.

Hi 3snuggleBunnies, It's quite an interesting idea but I don't think it's practical to buy it for home use as I'm pretty sure it'll be expensive and cumbersome. Perhaps if there is a lot more human traffic like in a clothing store will this gadget be really useful. Thanks for sharing.

That would definitely be a NO for me...snuggles, it's a GADGET, and for vacuuming, it would have to be electrical, and we ALL KNOW where the price of POWER is going! Just another "thingy" to break down, as I am sure it will come with "built in obsolescence!" So much easier for me to wear "slip-on's" and the debris is left outside the door!

I'd have to agree with you, pergammano! We don't wear shoes in the house at all . . . we take the outdoor shoes off by the door. Sometimes we wear "inside" slippers or socks but mostly we like our clean feeties on the floors. This truly helps from bringing in dirt from outside . . . who knows what is underneath the soles of our shoes!

It probably wouldn't be very practical here....with the snow and ice, gravel, sand. I think it wouldn't take long for it to wear out. Grass is one thing....ice is another...salt also that sticks to your shoes from walking on winter sidewalks.

I've seen a video of a japanese apartment, and if their apartments are anything like their homes, it's designed for them specific. What I mean is, in the apartment I saw they have a space wherein you put your shoes and such before even stepping up to the apartment. The person showing the apartment says that this is common in other places to live in Japan as well. I think that it's a neat idea, but maybe it would be better used in America for high traffic areas such as grocery stores, gas stations, and the such.

That is a neat idea....i might be tempted but it would depend on how much it would cost. Would be wonderful in the summer after mowing the lawn!

Just what we all need in our house is another kind of piece of technology. You are right that it does drive me nuts to see all of the things that are tracked through the house during the course of an ordinary day. With that said, I don't think that I would have a contraption like that because of the fact that I think that there are things that can be done to get those things off of your shoes that are a lot simpler and also a lot more economic.
