Spain beat France 2-0 to storm into the semifinals of the Euros. Xabi Alonso celebrated his 100th match with a brace with a header on the 19th minute and a late penalty to seal the match. As expected Spain had most of the ball, but the French did make a fight of it when they had the ball. Ribery was very lively and it required a couple of very good saves from Iker Casillas to ensure that French did not equalize.
Now Spain face Portugal in the first semifinal in 4 days time!!
What are your views on this match-up?
Cheers!

Ok, is it too late to change my mind? Now as you put it that way, I see 1-0 Spain, In the Final minute or ever stoppage time!

Spain beating France was never a surprise because France will not match the force and power of present Spain irrespective of the history of France haven beaten Spain more. France are not of the quality of 1998 that won the world cup. They lost 2-0 to Sweden before meeting Spain. I would say I was disappointed with Spain for not netting more goals.

I just think this match was hypnotic. It started at 2:45 we here. I needed their goals to keep me awake. However, they just playing so patiently. France didn't show their wills to equalize, and Spain prefer to control the ball rather than to kick the ball into the goal.It seems that it was not a soccer match but just a ball-chasing game.

I thought France will have a go at Spain but it is not to be. During the match, the commentators mentioned that teams always changed their tactics against Spain and this prevent them from playing their normal games. While it is understandably that they will try to nullify the Spanish threats, this will also mean that the opponent will be stripe off their strongest attribute even before the ball was kicked. I expect the Portugese to do the same and try to hold the Spaniard and then attempt to hit them on the counter.

Hello ram_cv, it was a good match in total. Spain managed to score two goals and they did well in the defense too. Anyway they are into the semifinals now. All the best for the team Spain to lift the trophy once again .

You must've been watching an entirely different game to us because we thought France were crap and didn't even want to try and win it. I've never seen such negativity and I - for one - am glad they are going home.
