Can someone please help me out and give me some tips on keeping my son from opening up the windows and then opening up the screens. He tried to jump out of it tonight and is so not good if i am in the other room when he does this. Why do children do crazy things like this i mean really when i tell you to go to bed or that you are not going outside to play i mean it that dont mean you go to the window and jump out it.

My son is 5 years old. I cant really do anything to the locks it self because of the type of appartment we live in. I am thinking about going tomorrow and seeing if they have some kind of child locks that can be put into the window but i have to make sure that they can be removed at any time by a key or what ever works. I would think that they would make something like that. My son can not be the first child that has done this.

Why can't you lock the window so he can't open it? I knew someone who would lock the windows so their kids couldn't get out or throw things out.

What do you mean lock? If you mean with the locks that come on the windows then yeah i do lock them and lock the screens. But my son is smart and the screens that are on our appartment the locks are on the bottom of the window so they are easy to get to.

1. Childproof your home. I recall when I was a child, the sockets at home were all duct-taped. :) It won't hurt to tie your windows and doors with bungee cords while he's around. Bungee cords are soft and won't hurt your son if he tries to get past them.
2. Set firmer NO's. Children need them.
Good luck with your son!

Yeah i have locks on the doors and alarms on the doors im hoping that they have some sort of alarms for the windows as well. But i will have to look. My windows are kind of different then a regular window so i dont think that a bungee cord would work. Ill look though just to see if i could figure something out. Thanks for the post and the idea.

jdaw my dear as you are in an apartment and the manager has probably heard your story from others too go to him or her
'and ask for a lock and key that is childproof so you will not
have this problem with your child. I am sure others have also had children who managed to get windows open and put themselves in
danger., I think he or she will help you out so go talk to the
manager., and [Good luck God bless.

I live in a government appartment and they dont even allow us to put locks on the front doors. We are not even allowed to put things infront of the windows. They say that it is a fire hazard so we are not allowed t do so. I now that they will not allow a lock for the windows. I will be going to the hardware store tomorrow just to look and see what kinds of things they have that way i can get what looks like the best thing and maybe even a few different things just to see what works best and then what i dont need i can take back. Thanks for the post though.

Hello JDaw2006
How old is your son? How far is the jump?
Have you considered placing mousetraps all over the place near the window?

Hi pageturner my son is 5 years old.The jump is not that high but its the fact that i am not able to hear when he opens the windows. My neighbor is the one that tells me that he has opened it and trying to jump out or her sons come over and yell for me through the window then i now that the window is open.I have not tried the mouse traps and not real sure if i would want to.I mean my son is one of those that when he does something even if it hurts really bad he is going to do it again just to see if it hurts just the same and i now just how bad them things hurt when they close on your hands or fingers. My son has really little fingers and hands and now if one was to close on his hands or fingers then he would have something broke. Thanks for the idea though.

I was kidding about the mouse traps -- thought they might be a deterrant, but really wouldn't even consider it on a child.
Have you considered nailing the windows shut? Just wedging in a nail so that he can't open the window on his own?
How far away from him are you? Could you hear something if you placed some kind of noise maker to act as an alarm if he jumped out?
Also, what does he do when he jumps out? Where does he go?

Lol i kinda figur4d you were kidding about the mouse traps at least i was hoping you were anyway lol.
I am not able to nail the windows shut because of thetype of place that we live in i wish i could cause i would do that for sure.
im not to far away from him i keep it pretty quite in the house when the kids are in bed and when im sitting down so that i can hear them then they are playing or when they wake up for the day. what kind of noise maker do you think would work though im not real sure of anything.
He has not jumped out of it yet but he tried tonight but the neighbor kids next door stopped him tonight and called me back to his room thats the only reason i new and the kids mom told me thats what he was trying to do so i now that the kids were not over thinking it.
