How and Where to Report Corrupt Barangay Officials?

Philippines

We have a Barangay Captain that's so negligent that he approved and gave clearance to a big telecom company to build a cell tower on the edge of a building just beside our house, when we confronted the barangay captain, he claimed that he have overlooked the documents that were submitted (huh!?), and promised that he will not approved the renewal of this telecom company's clearance - BUT HE DID. Bottomline, I'm quite certain that this Barangay Captain got something out of this and want to report it to the authorities but where? I've been to the City Hall and said they will just look into the structure that was built if its really illegally constructed according to building plans. But what I'm really concern about is how to put an end to this captain's corrupt practices. Thinking about reporting it to the media as a last resort. I hope someone can share something about this matter. Thanks ^_^

I think it would be better to have schedule to the city hall to meet with the Mayor in order to have a quick action within your city. If there were no progress, report your problem to the media so that the city will take action regarding the suspected corrupt practices of a barangay official.

Hi Flashpointer ^_^ I wish it was that easy meeting with the Mayor :) in our city there seem to be no quick resolution to issues like this, they will direct you to some other office in the city hall (like what happened to me) and filed a complaint then come back after several days to make a follow-up. I also think that the media is the last and most effective solution to this issue, this will also make the people be aware about the incorrect practices happening in our barangay office, then come election day they will know who NOT to vote for, just in case this barangay captain decides to run again for another term.

My siblings and I are now seriously considering this option but none of us want to be expose in TV shows just yet :) a friend also suggested print media like in Daily Inquirer, they are also entertaining complaints to public officials... hayyzz.. :(

Maybe that will be your last option, but there is another way to solve your problem. Why not ask for help from Ted Failon's television program or from Mike Enriquez Imbestigador program? I think they will help you solve your problem to the barangay official.

Hmmm... My suggestion is that... you do report it... but if you are the lone reporter, then it might only fall on deaf ears. you may want to speak with your neighbours who share the same sentiments; that way you can file a joint complaint. Good luck to this.

Thanks Gracee... you know it's really so disappointing to go through this situation to think that if only that official did his job honestly and properly there would be no problem to begin with. And now I have to set aside some important tasks to be done just to deal with this issue. What's even more difficult to accept is that part of taxes goes to the salary of this unfit barangay official :(

Hello Eppie, that is something to suspecious about isn't it? have you ever thought of reporting or tellking this incident to the Media. you know they are very good at it.they will do surveilance first then once the corrupt act is genuine they can send the cops to have him arrested. you know MEDIA is the only way to do it.

Hi LK ^_^.. yeah I agree MEDIA is the only way to do it, It's just disappointing having to end up reporting to media instead of coursing it thru proper government channels first. But as of now there seem to be no faster alternative to solve this issue than thru media. :( (have to though I hate media exposures ^_^)
