do you check on the plot, the director or the actors? Do any of them have the power to make you decide which is the movie you are going to see? I know people who follow directors or actors. I do that, but only up to a very low scale. I will try not to miss any movie directed by the spanish director Pedro Almodovar. I used to follow Woody Aller until I felt that he was repeating himself. But most of all, I now check on the plot. I love something funny and witty, I like romance, I am interested in a good thriller. How about you? What takes you to a move house or makes you download a movie? Share!

I always say " Tell me a story." In other words it is the plot that gets me to see a film. Back in the day I got to hear about new films by watching Siskel and Ebert. They were film critics and they had a t.v. show in the 80's. They guided toward and Away from films well. I don't like most "coming of age " films. So whenever they said this phrase I Knew Not to see the film but they also told me of films that were great , films I wouldn't have even tried! They told me about The Last Emperor, weeks before it was in theaters and I went to see it and Knew during the first minutes it was the best film of that year! But we lost Siskel in the 90's and Ebert tried another show with another partner but it didn't work for me so I stopped watching. These days I just watch the promo on t.v.If the plot moves me , I'll see the film. It is rare these days. My mom Loved Alan Ladd. She saw Every film he was ever in, good , bad, or indifferent.I could never do that. There are many films my favorite actors make that I Know I will hate so I stay away.

It`s been decades since I have remembered Alan Ladd. I had a crush on him when I was a little girl. I loved The last Emperor too. I don`t always like the movies that have most of the prizes or bigger audiences, but this one was awesome. I don`t much trust criticts around here. I specially hate them when they say a picture is good only because it`s twisted or difficult.

My mom was warm for his form, lol. She also loved Clark Gable. I didn't. I prefer Cary Grant! Finding a critic with your taste in film is the hard part.I got lucky. Except for one or two films, Roger Ebert and I agreed on every film. We have/had, I am not sure he is still working or not, a critic that Hated Everything! It was rare to see him like a film so when he did , the film looked like a huge hit.But film is like Any other art form, it All depends on your taste! I know that I will not like romantic comedies they write these days. I get angry with the promos. And I will never see another horror film either. so like everything ,you have to go with your gut.

My taste has changed throughout the years. There are some times when I like romantic movies, but they have to be well done. Comedy is nor easy either: it takes a lot to make me laugh. I hate those horror movies full of ketchup but I saw a while ago Vertigo and it was as awesome as it was decades ago, when it was made.

I mainly go with the plots. I sometimes will follow some actors, but the plots are what I am mainly looking for. Some of the best movies I have seen had no name actors and were indie films. I try not to listen to the critics either. The critics are there to judge the movie from a movie makers point of view. I want a point of view on the movie and one that comes from the viewers if that makes any sense.

I read what critics say sometimes, but don´t listen to them. Many of them give more praises to films that are very intelectual even if they are bad.

I have never seen an indi movie. Now that I have met so many friends from India here, I´m begining to have the need to read books and watch movies from India.

Yeah and I think sometimes those critics might be getting paid by the studio to give it a good review. I like a lot of the indie movies that are harder to find, they seem to have better plots and rely on special affects less. I mean special affects are cool, but why does everything have to be in 3D now?

I don't follow actors or directors, really could care less who's in what and who's working on what! What makes me want to see a movie is the plot, if I find the premise interesting then I'll go see the movie or rent it. My favorite films are fantasy, but I also watch a number of Inspirational feel-good films and children's films (they're lighthearted and happy inside! I can watch children's movies as an adult if I want! lol ).

Awww... well I'm not much of a crier myself, I hardly ever cry through movies. My big sister (23) has a super-soft heart and cries uncontrollably! lol She cries all through Kung Fu Panda 2, and Up, and Toy Story 3...

I suppose that adventure and horror movies don`t require a special director as drama needs. But it requires a very good director to make a funny movie.

I rely sometimes on what some friends say about a movie, but usually I do as you do. I specially don´t mind what critics say about it.

i enjoy reading movie reviews because its always interesting to hear other peoples point of view but that wont deter me from seeing the movie. Its the same as if mf friends have seen it and said its rubbish, if the film appeals to me i will watch it.

I first check on the director and then the plot. Actors are no factor. A good director can make a movie super hit if the plot is justified. A director creates actors. Many ordinary actors became famous by the grace of good direction.

I don`t agree with you. Some movies, specially the ones who sho emotions and different aspects of what human beings are, need good actors for the roles as they do in plays.

There are a couple of Danish directors that I really like and when I hear that one of them has made a new movie I try to find some information about the plot and if it sounds interesting I decide to watch the movie. I don't watch every movie made by my favourite dirrectors. Their names might be the first thing that make me interested, but I always check the plot as well. The same thing happens if I hear about a movie with one of my favourite actors. I will read about the plot before I make my decision. The plot is definately the most important thing when I want to decide if I want to watch a certain movie or not. My favourite directors or my favourite actors aren't enough. I have only picked a movie because of the actors once. I heard that one of my favourite actors had made his own movie and I decided to watch it because of him, but the movie was really awful. I was so bored that I didn't even watch the entire movie.

A couple of decades ago (maybe more, now that I think of it) there was a boom of good danish cinema. I don´t know if the movies don´t reach my part of the world anymore, but I haven´t seen a danish mmovie for a long time.

While there are some actors and actresses that I really admire, the stars of a movie are not going to determine if I go to the cinema to see the movie. However, it does guarantee that I will see the movie eventually. The factors that determine if I will see the movie at the theatre are the plot of the movie and if anyone wants to go see the movie with me. I don't know why, but I really do not like seeing movies alone.

I don´t like to go to the movies alone either. It could be, in my case, because I went a lot to the movies with my husband for years and years. Even when we were old, I held hands with him there.

Hi! I follow the plot first and then the actors. If the plot sounds interestin then I will definitely watch the movie. Also, sometimes I read the critics and they might convince me to watch a movie that I wouldn't consider watching. But if my favourite actors are playing, I will definitely watch the movie. Sometimes the movie might be average but the actor can have a great performance so if the plot isn't helping the overall result can be average too! I have to admit that I haven't been to the cinema for a while and I prefer renting the movies at home. But the feeling that a film leaves after exiting the cinema can't compare with watching it at home!

That´s the good idea. I go seldom to the cinema now. I used to go a lot when my husband was alive as we both liked it. But now I only go when friends invite me. I don´t like to go alone.

When I go to watch a movie in theather I usually check the actors first then the director after that I will researched the feedback of the movies. I usually followed Jason Stathman, Angelina Jolie and Liam Neeson, since I love action movies, and for the director I followed only Steven Spielbeg movies since he is very good in creating a masterpiece movies. I also love watching romance and comedy movies but I preferred to purchased their dvd's and watch it at home when I am alone.

I see you check a lot of things before going to a movie. I have actors I follow and many that I saw the first time in an awesome movie and then I started checking. It also has happened with directors so I think that first came the plot and a good movie gave me people to follow.

Defiantly all of these things can sway a person into wanting to go see a movie. Sometimes even if a movie has the best actors, but a crappy director and or plot, I will not spend good money to see it.

Hi friend, i like watching movies and have some favorite stars. But i have some limitations in following them. Most of the time i like to watch my favorite hero movies and went to theater to watch it. I am not interested in downloading movies to my system, simply i will watch it in TV or theaters

I hadn`t thought of having a movie theater until my brother invited me to his house to see a movie. It`s like going to the movies, but better! I don`t have the least idea about the cost and I`m sure it`s too expensive, but I changed my mind about downloading movies and watching them at home.

I mostly used to in for a movie when i find it is a good fun. My friends is a fan of different actors and they usually goes for the movie to see them along with it they need to enjoy it. I will only in for a movie if it is good, it doesn't matter who is the actor or the actress.

Story must be well told though. There are some movies that seem to go perfectly well until the end is approaching. Then it seems that the director didn´t know how to end it and the plot disolves.

I generally do all three. If its romance or anything like that, I avoid that movie. I am not into romance. I am generally into comedy, adventure, action, and movies like project x. The plot is not always revealed in trailers, and I dont base whether I watch it on the plot, because I like to keep the movie a suprise. I judge by the actors, because if it has big time actors in the movie, the movie quality will be better, and famous actors generally go for good movies, not bad ones. I also watch the trailers. If the trailer has some funny things in it, I watch it.

I suppose that we take into account a bit of all three plus a gut feeling. I love a good comedy but I`m aware that it is more difficult to make a good comedy than a good drama.
