In all the hype and attention around the Euros, this piece of news seems to have got subdued. Roman Abrahamovic has rewarded Di Matteo with the permanent manager's position at Chelsea for winning the Champions League. This does seem to be the just reward for landing the big prize of Champions League last season.
But does he have it in him to rebuild the aging Chelsea squad?
Cheers!

" permanent manager"? Does this mean he can never be fired? I guess if he can get the whole team to work as one , then he will do well. If not? He won't.

agree, it's too far to compare Guardiola and Di Matteo, especially because of Barcelona have many great player in the starting eleven and bench. But if Chelsea can provide great team for Di Matteo, anything can happen

I was also expecting a news like that. I hope he can make Chelsea much more stronger. They need a good come back in the English Premier League. Also I think they need some more good players. I hope the team will perform much better in the coming season .

at first i would say that,si matteo totally deserves new cntract as a permanent manager,,he did a fabulous job winning champions league from the position where many believed chelsea would be defeated by napoli, plus with his help chelsea were able to clinch a domestic cup as well, when things were looking messy for chelsea di matteo made things rossy and now with huge money in the bank to spend for new players di matteo looks to be just more sucessful this year

I do not think there is huge money in the bank. Remember Chelsea is already in the red from a financials perspective with the players they have bought so far. They are staying clear of FIFA financial fair play rules because Roman Abrahamovic is funding it from his pocket.
Cheers!

well done he deserves it! He won 2 consecutive titles which is not easy to attain with. Moreover he has the trust of his players especially John Terry who has some falling out with Boas. Chelsea is on a roll right now. I hope they continue this until the start of the next season because their morale is high right now and you don't want to waste this momentum. I hope they stay as a team and get some players who could add some depth to their lineup

After leading Chelsea to their first Champions League victory, giving Di Matteo the position on a permanent basis is a no-brainer. However, it is pretty obvious that the italian is not the first choice. When things does not goes according to plan in the coming season, he will definitely head for the exit door.

This is great news for me as a Chelsea fan because I thought that Di Matteo deserved to be given confidence after he managed not only to save a season which seemed to be compromised under Villas-Boas,but also to obtain the greatest achievement in Chelsea's history, and he had to do it without having the chance to make transfers,he had to use the same players that seemed to be completely uninspired and devoid of motivation and revitalized them. For all these reasons I think it would have been a great injustice if he hadn't received the permanent job as Chelsea manager;luckily that didn't happen and Di Matteo can now start building a stronger squad, capable of fighting for new trophies and more glory in the seasons to come.I'm convinced he will rebuild the squad and I am anxious to see the new Chelsea in the next season.

Perhaps he was not the first choice that Roman Abramovich, the Chelsea owner, wanted, but I am sure that Di Matteo has what it takes to be successful as a manager - he has in fact proved that with the winning of the Champions League and the FA cup as well as a respectable 6th finish in last season's EPL. It was nothing short of a miracle with what he achieved considering the dire situation the team was in when he took over the manager's post. Nobody had given him a chance to succeed but he did it.
Whether Di Matteo could rebuild the team, it is not easy to say. Not even an experience coach such as Ferguson or Wenger could be 100% certain about their new team as shown in last season. After all, they are dealing with humans. Many factors can make or break a team and it is not necessarily for footballing reasons.
However, Di Matteo could still be sacked even before the end of next season. It is the tradition or rather, the usual practice there. Good results don't mean his job is safe. If Roman Abramovich doesn't like it, even if it is for Di Matteo's hair style, he will be asked to go.
But Di Matteo is a good coach. He will do his best.
