I am thinking about getting one in a few days. I've been told the picture is not different from Blu Ray and Dvd. I have 27inch tv and what about the Hdmi cords. Will really notice the sound quality better than without them? Do I need a biger tv to notice the picture quality more with Blu Ray? these are what people I know say. I want more opinions. If I do buy the machine I won't be using the internet access on it. Do I need that to update machine? Do I need at all? I bought a blu/dvd movie on ebay for low price. I haven't got to watch blu ray movie yet. I love the dvd's. I was thinking what if I go with Blu ray instead. Whats the big differences?

The big difference between the DVD player and the Blu-Ray player is that the DVD player can't play Blu-Ray discs but a Blu-Ray player can play DVDs. I'm sorry I can't really comment on the picture quality. We have a PS3 that plays Blu-Rays but our TV is an older CRT. I've been researching getting a new TV and it seems that the picture quality is the same if you're using regular A/V cables or an HDMI cable. HDMI cables are very expensive if you buy them at electronics stores. My husband wants one for the PS3 when we get a new TV and I'm planning to buy it from Newegg.com because they're so much cheaper than the stores. Sometimes you need to update your player's software to play certain movies or access bonus features. I think many companies put the software you need right on the disc so you don't have to go online to access updates.

speaking of updating your blu ray player. I was reading about that today. I only have wifi in my apt building. that is of course password protected. I wonder how the wifi blu ra player will deal with the fact I have to put a password in so I can use internet.

Blu has a resolution of 1080,while dvd is more than twice, the standard resolution of a dvd. You will need widescreen TV to notice the difference, buts its enough. I think you should buy a blu ray player because it can play both dvds and blurays. Dvd don't have enough space to store HD movies, only blu rays will give you hi definition picture quality.

Blu-ray discs were invented to store High definition content on them because HD(1080p) takes up a lot more space than a regular standard definition movie. While a DVDs can hold 4,7Gb or the double layer DVD up to around 8Gb a Blu-ray disc can hold up to 25gb or the dual layer one 50gb so this permits to make movies with a much more higher resolution so the picture is most clearer and crisper if you have an appropriate TV for the task.(a full HD TV and a blu-ray player connected to the TV via HDMI cable.

We bought a bluray player a few months back since some of the dvds we bought and liked were bluray ones.. It was just cheap anyway, so i think it was a good deal. The picture is clear and it plays any dvd too.

I don't have the best of eyesight admittedly, but even so, to see ANY difference on a TV would take really exceptional eyes! Unless you are watching on a cinema sized screen, you shouldn't notice a difference. Blueray is still a little expensive but getting cheaper all the time. If you wait a little longer, you'll find that blueray is the only thing available and it will be at rock bottom price. Perhaps six months or a year away, DVD's will be finished.
