Stubbed my toe - ooh the pain!

I just stubbed my toe...it's really cold here and I have socks on but it's still hurting. Does it hurt more do you think when we stub our toes in frigid weather? I've known people who've stubbed their toe or dropped something on their foot and broken a toe...that must be excruciatingly painful. Has this ever happened to you? Are you a regular toe stubber? Share your tales with me won't you?

Ooohhh! Ouch! I am sorry to hear that you have done that to your poor toe. I was just thinking how cold it is here this morning, but I bet it is definitely colder in your area than it is here. I am not a regular toe stubber, but I have definitely done it and know the pain well. I have also dropped heavy things on my toes before during my days as a panel beater and suffered what was most definitely a broken toe a few times. I never got x-rays as nothing can be done for a broken toe anyway, I just soldiered on through the pain for a few weeks. It is not easy when you have to be on your feet all day every day either!

I take it this was in the days before OH&S and personal protection equipment Bill?? And you were self employed? I cannot imagine that kind of pain but I reckon it must be horrific. It's certainly chilly here with a huge frost outside. 5 degrees out and 14 in and that's with the fire going. Chilly is an understatement...try gelid. You're up bright and early, hope you have a lovely day. It will be lovely and sunny and warm soon.

I did my toes when I was both on wages and working as a contractor. The last time when I was a contractor in around 2002 was the worst. I never wore steel capped boots due to them being too hard to kneel down in. Panel beaters are always on their knees you see and the steel caps would cut into the top of the toes. I am always up bright and early. Usually on the computer at around 6am at this time of the year. We have a courier that comes around 9 so I have to get orders packed and ready for him. Our house does not get any sunshine during the day as we are surrounded by trees. This keeps it around 14 - 16 degrees at the moment which is way cooler than most of the Gold Coast. But we were kept pretty cool during summer. Having only a short winter, I am sure that we can put up with the cold for a while. And we do not get any frost!

Egads! Stubbing one's toe is so terribly painful, MsTickle! I am sorry to hear that you are enduring such dreadful pain!! I seem to be a regular toe stubber. The weather doesn't seem to affect the measure of pain, but to be clear, I have not been in very cold weather when enduring a toe stub. Although it's not a toe stub, some years ago I was moving railroad ties and I dropped one fully on my foot. It literally smashed my big toe flat like a pancake. The toenail came off and it looked ghastly. However, I must have been in some kind of shock because I never felt any pain beyond the initial impact. I was glad of that!! Peace I love the world!!

How dreadful! Thank goodness for shock then. It might have been very traumatic for you otherwise. Back in the days when soft drink came in bottles, I dropped a small bottle of Coke on my foot. The bottle exploded and I don't remember any pain then either. There were just a few drops of blood which surprised me and when I went to the bathroom to rinse it off, I dislodged a largish piece of glass and then the blood did flow. It wouldn't stop and it made a huge mess. Can you tell I'm not a shoe wearer?

a few years ago the psychoartist had the misfortune to drop a frozen roast on my foot while taking it out of the freezer! it was actually very painful and injurious! i had quite an unattractive mark on my foot for about a week...so ms. tickle, you see i am not a shoe wearer either, (if i can help it) but also a bit clumsy!

I feel the pain! I often stub my toe especially when I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet, considerate as I am I never put the lights on not wanting to disturb the family but for my effort I seem to stub my toe either on the door or the damn wardrobe which is near the door. I used to do it a lot when I was at the swimming baths when I went to climb in or out of the water, I would stub my toe on one of the rungs.

It seems the kind of accident that occurs regularly in some people. I know when I have a sore toe I seem to hit it again and again if I'm not super careful. I tend to trip over shoes when I go to the loo in the middle of the night. I usually put my bedside lamp on but sometimes I'm too sleepy to remember...yowchy!.

Hi Lakota...12 weeks to heal, that must have been just awful. I just cannot imagine the pain and discomfort you had to endure. Yeah, stubbing your toe really hurts. How come we always hit it so hard...why can't it be just a tap (that doesn't hurt like h3ll?)

I have not stubbed my toe in a very long time. Yes it does hurt when i have done it! My right toe has been stepped on a few times by horses! That hurts like crazy, too! Twice my toe nail turned back and came off! Now my right big toe nail has not grown back in right and looks like it has turned into a fungus problem! My is my big toe story!

OUCH! Blue, horses tend to use a heavy stomping action don't they? I've been lucky that my reflexes have let me scoot my feet out of the way but that was when I was much younger and much lighter. I've been treating a fungal problem in my big toes for ages and one nail has turned black but nothing else has happened and I still have the fungus!

Purple, I'm glad you got your priorities right. That was quick thinking on your part. It's best to leave your boot on ion any case because it holds everything together if there is a break.

Oh that does hurt, and I imagine that it hurts more to only have your toe stepped on than your entire foot, which is what happened to me. I was getting the horse ready to ride, and it was being bothered by flies. It stomped to get the flies away, but when its foot came down it was right on top of my foot. I had on my boots, but the steel toes do not protect the entire top of your foot ... or at least mine didn't ... and I was afraid that my foot was broken. Fortunately, it was just sore and slightly bruised but not broken. Of course, I did not bother to check it out until after the ride, because I didn't go through all that to not be able to take my ride and perhaps not be able to take one for several weeks if in fact my foot was seriously injured.

Ouch! I don't think that weather really plays a part in the pain ... I think it pretty much hurts not matter what, and I think that the only things that might factor into it are the force with which you hit the object and the relative hardness or softness (or perhaps movability) of the object. I have stubbed my toe so hard that the toenail came off ... now that was painful! That hurt for quite a while not just due to the fact that I stubbed it but also because the nail was no longer there to protect the toe, which made it super-sensitive and of course that seemed to make me keep bumping it on things even more.

I think I see a vague pattern here. Most people are stubbing their BIG toe - I tend to stub the last three and those not necessarily at the same time. I think it must hurt much more to do the big toe because having the bigger area, you do more damage. I'm so sorry about your poor toe purp. I feel like a fraud now, whining about my little bump.

Oh no, please do not feel like that! I know how much stubbing any toe can hurt, and I do not feel that stubbing any toe really is worse than stubbing any of the others ... although I will say that when you keep stubbing the same toe time after time without giving it a chance to heal, then that is certain worse than stubbing a brand new toe.

Sorry not to get back to you sooner - Demned alerts!. My toe actually stopped hurting after about 10 minutes and I feel so bad for those who are stubbing their toes and actually doing harmful injury to themselves. that must hurt like the blazes!

You may think that I am a little odd when you read this but for the most part I actually laugh at pain, so stubbing my toe makes me a little giggly. The ONLY time I don't find any humor in it is if either a) I drop something on the foot itself like frozen meat for example b) I stub my toe on something really hard like a metal tool box for example and end up breaking it.

Hello sweet friend,. How are you and your two darling daughters? Yes, I think that you are very odd to go giggly at pain,So you're saying, extreme violence gets a normal reaction while regular violence gets a giggle. Hmm, I think I need to start worrying about you. xox.

Hi Hunnie The gurls and I are doing quite well thank you! Hope you and your family are also well. I know it's weird huh? When I was in labor with my oldest I remember the nurse was getting very concerned because I was laughing through contractions. I'm not really sure why I do it, but in a way I'm glad I do! I'd rather laugh than scream VERY colorful language in a Hospital full of doctors, nurses, and other patients. Hope you have a great week! Love you xoxo

Hi scarlet, lovely to see you. Now that's interesting, I thought that if you have bad circulation, that your toes would be cold and you'd feel the pain more but you say not. I think I'm foot clumsy too but touch wood, I've never broken any toe bones.

Hi MsTickle, I don't think I have ever stubbed my toe but my eldest daughter is forever hurting her feet, people tread on them, she stubs her toes, she cuts them but I think she mainly wears flip flops and open toed shoes which could be the reason why and also for me I am always in steel toe capped work shoes so my feet have protection so again the reason why I don't hurt mine. Huggles. Ellie :)

I am actually a regular toe stubber and I hate it..lol. My grandfather said that even if he put every table leg we had in the house in a corner..somehow..I would stub my toes..lol. I am not as bad now as then but if there is a wooden leg in the house..my toes have been wrapped around it at least once.

I think we should start a club for those who have answered this discussion. (There's only a handful...I'm getting a complex that I'm unpopular, lol.) We shall be the clumsy stubbers. LOL. Actually, I do it fairly often too, not so much when I'm wearing shoes though. Strange that.

I once broke the three smaller toes on my right foot as I ran from my bedroom to answer the phone. The phone was the other end of the house, and I had to go through the den and caught my foot on the leg of the sofa. Pain? A stubbed toe is a walk in the park with an ice cream cone and a balloon in comparison.

hi dear MsTickle long time no see here.....for a moment I forgot that its getting colder now where you are and its summertime here. Hope everything is okay again and the toe has healed. For me the pain is the same level in summer and winter. Stubbing toes is not as bad for me as the constant breaking of finger nails is.....most of the time the whole white fingertip of the nail breaks off and that hurts for sure. Just happened today. grrrrr no one needs that

Hi again my friend. The pain didn't last any time really compared to what some people have experienced. My nails don't ever grow too long and they tend to split or peel as they are not strong. I imagine that snapping off a nail must hurt a lot and make your fingertip sore and sensitive. Sorry you have experienced this.
