I am thinking of doing some writing online but I feel a bit nervous to do as I am quite new to it. I think at the moment I lack the confidence and fear rejection.
I would love to hear from you guys as to how you started your writing career and were you also as nervous as I am now when you submitted your first piece of writing to be published.

Well, for starters, i think you are beginning to write online. Here in mylot, you could practice your writing and ask people about their opinions regarding what you wrote. It would help you alot since in here, people are open to new ideas and would even encourage you to pursue your writing career. I hope you become successful one day in your writing career. Have a great day!

Thank you halfbloodace. You made me think back to when I made my first post, or should I say when I started my first discussion. I woke up one night and started stressing about whether anyone would react to my new discussion. When they did I was so relieved that I had done something right. So I guess I must just relax, have fun and get on with the business of writing.

Hi Jennib1. If I may say something about your writing skill, you have more than what it takes to be a successful writer. How I wish I could express my thoughts as well as you do. How do you hone your writing skill? I hope you don't mind my question. God bless. By the way, I'm a new user. How do I post a new discussion? Thanks a lot.

I first started writing when I was ten years old, and I actually managed to get a poem published in a book which was something that I was very proud about at the time. From then, I did things like writing diaries to practice, and did a lot of short stories that I would hand to my teachers to mark and tell me what I could improve on. Now, I publish my writing online, and I know that it is something that I should be very proud of because there are lots of people who do seem to enjoy the work that I do, and that is a wonderful feeling to be able to have.

I was very nervous, but really, what can they do but say "no"? And if they do, it doesn't have a thing to do with you, only the article or the topic or the timing. If you start at a content site like Yahoo Voices or Triond, there's less of a chance of having a piece rejected, especially if it's for performance (page view) pay instead of upfront. Start there then work your way up as your self confidence grows. Whatever you do, start. Sign up for a few content sites, get familiar with them, write something and get it published.
You'll do fine.

Yes, rejection is terrible. But remember, many people reject God, Jesus and all the prophets, so we all get rejected by some. Write out of love and that you have something to share. Some will appreciate it and some won't and none of us can change that. Real success is never measured by the acceptance of others but by how we feel about we do. All the best!

Don't be nervous! Always have confident in yourself as that is one of the key to writing good articles. I started writting on triond a few years back and it just grew from there. I started expanding to write for experts column awhile and eventually write discussion here on mylot. I would recommend you to start with experts column as they have a friendly community and they even pay a bit better when compared to triond ( hey, might aswhile earn while you wrote right. :) ) anyways good luck!

Hi Shazooo I have just recently registed at triond that is why I became so nervous because I took my first big step (in my eyes)towards a writing career which led to this discussion. This afternoon while doing further research on writing tips I came across this quotation which I actually think is my stumbling block. It read 'The thing that is really hard and really amazing is giving up on being perfect and beginning the work of becoming yourself. I guess I must just relax and be myself. Thank you for your input. It is much appreciated.

Yes, I was a little. I did some research to some writing sites like Triond.com and saw what people were writing there. After I saw the they were quite nice and supportive I took a chance. I also looked for a writers group here in town. If you really want to try to write seriously, those that two things you should try to do to get started. As for what to write? Well, write what interests you. If you like adventure, mystery, fantasy, romance or any other genre, try to write what you like.

I started writing for the purpose of promoting my online job so that I would be able to get referrals. I never thought that I would love it here in myLot as one of my best found sites online. I came here to share my day to day experiences, my happy and sad moments and almost anything that I think would be worth sharing of.
Just be yourself and write about yourself and the things that you know.

Just as you, when I come to mylot, I was afraid of making some mistakes, and can't make myself understood by others. I was afraid that I couldn't understand others exactly. But now, I have done better, making mistakes are not bad, it is the best way to improve your Enlish, let's go ahead together.
Fighting!
