Can they see, hear, smell etc. When you recover does it feel like its the next second,Do they have any sense of time. Can they feel pain? What will you do,when you realize that you had been sleeping for decades? Can the soul of the person haunt like the souls of dead ones do? Will you be mad,if your holidays get 'consumed' by a coma.

I don't know for sure, but I've always imagined being in a coma is like being in a deep sleep. I heard people in comas can hear when others talk, but I would think they would hear it like it's a dream. Like when you have a dream and sometimes, things go on in real life and it enters your dream -- for example, if your alarm clock goes off, you hear it in your dream before you wake up. I think it'd be like that in a coma, only they don't wake up; they would just hear the alarm clock and it'd be another aspect to their dream. Although I don't know if people in comas dream.... I don't think they have a sense of time. Again, I think it's like when you're sleeping. You fall asleep, and until you look at the clock or notice whether or not the sun is out, you don't really know if you've been sleeping for 5 minutes, or 5 hours, or even 5 weeks. I think it's the same thing when someone has been in a coma. Until they look at the date or someone tells them, they would have no clue how long they have been in the coma.

Interesting question. Can't say I really know but apparently it is possible that a person in a coma is aware of what is going on around them but can't communicate. I can't imagine being in a situation like that, must be completely horrifying.

But if you know somebody who had recovered from a coma, you can ask them.My mom says she felt as if she was sleeping.

I'm not sure if it is the same for everyone but my mother was in a coma and she described being in a dream like she was in a deep hole trying to get out and she could hear country music playing to the point it was driving her insane. we were playing her CD's and some of them were country music. we also noticed her eyebrows raising and her head trying to turn when she recognized certain people's voices.

Some how a person in a coma's cognitive and motor skills have been shut off. The spinal cord has been cut or hits to certain parts of the brain. They may be able to feel pain but no way to respond to it. After decades of being in the sleep state I think they do not continue growing and certainly have no experience so they are stunted in that regard. The soul remains in tact because the body is still alive. I would be thrilled to come out of a coma so I wouldn't be mad about missing some holidays.

I always figured it would be like being in a deep sleep that you just cannot wake up from. It would be like living your life in a dream rather than in the real world. It's kind of scary when you think about it. It could be like being trapped in a nightmare.
