Brought a cat home from vacation

When I went to bed in the motel I checked into, I heard this loud meowing outside my door. I opened it to see and a dirty stray kitty ran inside my room, jumped on the bed and curled up and started purring at me! I felt bad and sent my hubby to get some cat food, fed the little guy and put him out when I went to sleep. Well first thing in the morning he was at the door crying to be let in again, I asked the hotel about it and they said they think someone had dumped a family of cats there a few weeks back. Well this little guy was too sweet to leave out to fend for himself so we went to the store and got a new cat carrier, left our vacation early and now I have a new cat. I really did not mean to get another, I already had two, but I just couldn't resist him! Turns out he is really healthy and only a year old, so I am getting him set up now at his new home, my house!

You have obviously got a soft spot for cats!! Too bad there was not more of you out there. The stray cat situation just continues to get worse and worse. The most important thing is ensuring that your new cat is either spayed/neutered to ensure the cat population stays in check. I personally have 3 cats and I obviously have a soft spot as well!! Good on you!!

The stray cat situation makes me very sad also, I live where it is warm year round so there are even more strays here in many places because of the mild weather. I had him neutered right away yesterday already though, even though I have 2 girls that are already spayed and he will be an indoor cat now, I guess he will spray on everything if I don't, not to mention chase down my girls so he is recovering nicely already. :)

Oh that's so sweet! Must have known he would get adopted if he came to your room :D I think it's really nice to rescue and home strays when they are friendly like this anyway. I'm glad he's settling in nicely and is healthy. I think it is lucky for you the whole family didn't come to your door, I could just imagine you taking them all and having a house full of cats :D Good on you for doing something so nice :)

He is very friendly and very sweet but it is a LOT of work trying to keep him from destroying everything in my house & hunting down my two girl cats. He's had a touch of tummy issues just from starting to eat real food so it's been a challenge and there is a lot to do for him to adjust, but he is a nice boy, way too sweet to be living on the streets!

Well I am sure he will settle down. You seem to have exp already with the 2 girls. I think he will settle down and learn things from the girls too. Good luck and hope his little tummy is OK soon :)

You're a Saint! What are you going to name him? I'm pretty lazy about names now, I'd either name him after the hotel or the town I found him in. Chevron (Ronnie) was found at a Chevron gas station and I drove down to San Antonio (Texas) to get Tony (Antonio).

That's great! I'd probably be near 100 now - but I haven't kept them all... Many come with names too. Now, we have one just turned two who was found in a car engine - we named him Sparky like spark plug, have to admit its better than Cranky for crank shaft...

Awww I think Chevron is an adorable name! We are calling him Threepio like C3po in Star Wars, our first cat is just Kitty and our 2nd one is Twoie so we decided to stick with the number names, I guess that is kind of lazy too! Let's hope I don't get to the name Hundred!! LOL

Awww, that sounds so sweet! I don't think I would have been able to resist the little kitty either if he had shown up hungry at my hotel door. I tried saving a pair of stray kittens off the street once. It's probably best that they got away from me, because as much as I promised myself I would be taking them to a shelter... I probably would have ended up keeping them. I've only got one cat of my own, but I'm allergic to cats so I really shouldn't have any more! I hope your new kitty is happy in his new home!

I've been tested myself, so I know it's the cats. (And the pollens, and the dusts...) Since my allergies are so extensive, I get a weekly allergy shot, which has alleviated a number of my symptoms. But they're not gone yet. Oh, I wouldn't take the poor kitty to a shelter if I knew it wouldn't be able to get back out again alive. I think you did a great thing in helping that kitty.

Nice job. You're a great person. I have six at the moment. I also believe there is always room for one more ha ha. Mine are getting really old as well so if any strays happen along I'm sure I can find room for one more. Where I used to live there was a huge stray problem. I would trap them then re home them or take the ones that were too wild to the shelter. I left the job to three wonderful neighbors and my traps. Give your kitty a kiss for me, he has a wonderful new owner.

That is so wonderful to hear, nice job on helping out the strays in your neighborhood! There were many in my last neighborhood and 1 of them lives with me now too! I really wish I had room for more but I am afriad to get more because I rent... it'd be hard to find a new place with all these now if I have to move but they are worth it! :)

Yep, we are calling him "Threepio" as in C-3po from Star Wars, we have a bit of a funny numbering system in place for our cats and he is kitty #3 for hubby & I together. It's a full house now!

Cute name. I'll have to remember, "Threepio" the next time I get a three-legged dog. I had been planning to use the name, "Tripod" but "Threepio" has a certain ring to it as well. Peace

A person after my own heart. How do they find us? I know that you will be blessed by having a wonderful pet who in some manner will always remember that you gave him a wonderful home. Anyway that has been my experience. Blessings

I think he could smell a sucker a mile away? I'm not sure how he knew which door to meow at but it must mean he is a smart boy! He certainly seems thankful to have a new home!

Hi Free, you are really a very kind-hearted person. I seldom see people who are as kind heart as you. One of my classmates before ever brought home, tortoise, rabbit, cat and even puppy as her pets. Sometimes because of this matter, her parents seldom want to bring her go vacation. As for me, i haven't got the chance to bring any pet home with me when i go vacation.

Hah yes maybe I should have thought of it, I might never get to take a vacation again with so many kitties at home to take care of! Well he is a cutie so what could I do? Sometimes you just can't resist.

Good for you and lucky for the kitty, I wish that there were more people like you in the world! We also have two rescued cats at home, and our current dog( a retirement gift) is the first animal that is not a rescue! Good luck with your new addition to your family!

More like your kitty found you! I have two - both rescues. My second one, Rook (named after a chess piece - my son's idea lol...) joined in some feral cats I feed when he was just a little kitty - he was so shy and timid and scared, it took a while before he would come to me...but one day he put his little paw on my knee and looked up in my eyes - well, needless to say, a few days later my friend and I trapped him, took him to the SPCA for neutering and shots, then I brought him home...it's been over a year now and Storm is definitely our cat.

That is so awesome bc stray cats are everywhere. I got my cat fixed at a clinic for free when we found her... she was a wild kitten born in the bck yard n was starving. Her mom n the rear of the litter had to be trapped n re-homed. I would have taken all of them if I could've. I love cats.

Wow! I am so glad you were able to add him to your family of cats. I would imagine you have your hands full, but what is one more. He sounds like he has a sweet disposition, very feisty. Your husband sounds like he is with you on your decision to keep him, that is so helpful. I am such a pushover for animals. The most I can do is leave my front and back yards open to strays and feed them occasionally. Kittens need more and I am so glad you can offer that.

Oh, it is nice when that cat met you and now you guys can care him. Currently i do care a mother cat that is not my real cat also but i think the mother cat won't move to anywhere else. I did care her before and then I went to my hometown 4 days last week. When i went back i saw she was lying down in a roof near my house. I called her but she did no response. I went back to my room and thought that she might forget me already. However she did meowing and run follow my foot. She looked thinner and was too hungry. I feed her food and cried to see her eating. Two days recently she just stays at home only and waits me back home every afternoon. I am thinking in the next time, if i leave a city for work or go to my hometown i will bring her together with me...i really don't want she starves when i am not in the city more.

I think it is no accident that the kitty came to YOUR hotel door. It's odd how they find us and know who will take them in. Do you think they have a built in instinct for that? My son took in a stray cat as well, even though his g/f is allergic to cats. They were making plans to get her spayed when they found out she was pregnant! She had only one kitten, which is unusual for a cat, so they kept the kitten as well. I love stories about stray cats and people finding each other!
