I am in mourning but not for a person, I am in mourning for my washer and dryer. It pains me so much that I have to leave them behind in this move. I know it is not the end of this world there are much worse things that could happen, but I love my washer and dryer, I had them for 13 years. Okay so I am crazy what can I say lol any thoughts?

That would be a bummer. I would probably be in mourning too. I feel pretty lucky here. We have a washer and dryer in the kitchen alot with a dish washer. I could do without the dish washer cause I enjoy washing dishes and do most as I go anyway. But I would be bummer to lose the washer and dryer. Do you have a in house laudramat? Hope so.

Yes there is one on every floor of the apartment building that you pay for, but it is not the same as having your own.

Thats for sure. I think we would be nuts if we had to still use a laundramat. I used to save my quarters for it and now I just use my debit card for everything so it would be a real problem. Couldn't you get a stackable one or something?

hihihi, you are not crazy at all, sometime we love things that we use it for long time. In this case, you can't bring it when you move...then you have no choice, right? I used to leave many things when i went to Korea, and soon when i return to Korea i have to leave many things again...I also have no choice...even though i really don't want to leave it.

yes I really have no choice I have to leave them behind. Moving is so expensive in so many ways. Your trip to Korea and back had to be very expensive too.

Your not crazy. It stinks when you have to leave something behind or give it away because you can't take it with you. Especially, a dryer, washing machine, microwave, etc. I actually took our washer and dryer and put them in the closet so I would still have them when I needed them. 13 years is really good for a washer and dryer, I pray each time I do laundry that mine lasts a very long time.

I read that washing machines has the life expectancy of about 12 years but could go to 16. Dryers has a life expectancy of 14 years but go to around 18 years old. So 13 years on both washer and dryer is really good. Hard to tell if they would break down or not. Hard to tell with anything how long it will last. Especially with the way things are made now, compared to how they used to be made.

yes thats quite normal. i get attached to things that help me so much also. problem is that when you move you have take your laundry out or to another part of the building, right? where when you have your good friends the washer , dryer right there, you can just go throw the clothes in any time.

You should not feel bad at all. We might have to move with a u-haul trailer and my mini van so they will have to be left behind, just for the weight. We may have to go from MS to WA state and pulling that much weight is going to be really hard. There are actually a lot of stuff that we are going to have to leave behind. I hate moves and I hate them more when you have to leave things behind.

That is how I felt about the house me and my husband bought and then a year and a half later his company moved him to a new state and my pretty house was gone. It turned out for the best at first. We got to know a new state, but the school education is not the best here. That is another reason that moving across country is looking better.

When you have had something that works for you and is comfortable for you then I can see mourning it and missing it when it is gone. I had a vacuum sweeper I felt that way about. In your case, if they are still working, you can realize that they will bless someone else.

It's like leaving my little RAV4 (my car which my son named Minnie Mouse) in the rain. I feel awful when a storm comes in and I have to leave Minnie in the middle of the downpour. Then I gave her to my niece who needed a car more than I did (I had another). She's not taken care of Minnie who now has a bumper missing, about 4 major dents, scratches and it's been broken into twice. I am in mourning for my little car. So, we're both crazy and I know how you feel.

if when you move, you may not have the convenience of having your own washer and dryer, (as in living in an apartment after living in a house) i would mourn the loss of mine too!

So sorry you have to leave them. Is there no way at all you could take them? I know that having a washer and dryer makes life so much easier. Where you are moving will you have to go outside of your home to wash clothes? It can be so very expensive to do this.

Of course if there was a way to take them I would. There is no way. I will have to use the buildings washer and dryer and pay for it.

I really do think that there are times that we tend to get really attached to our appliances and for that reason alone, I don't think that you are crazy for being in mourning about leaving your washer and dryer behind. With that said, you also have to admit that it will be a lot easier to move without those two appliances with you because they are bulky and heavy. In the long run, it will be a lot easier to buy a new set than to take your current set with you on the move.

that is the point I can't take them because there is no plumbing connection, it is an apartment building that I am moving too. I cannot buy another set like that, if that was the case I would take mine and not put out the expense of another set.

Sometimes , the wash masher destroys the clothes , making them smaller by a couple of sizes. I personally lost my iphone 2 months ago but it wasn't the end of the world. (maybe because my father bought it to me...) anyway , I think many instruments we have now are not too important and we just make them important because we become spoiled. We like how the machines do all the work. I try sometimes to do the work by myself to see how I can wash my clothes , I use an ordinary soap and wash the clothes , then hang them on the ropes , letting them dry by the sun. It just bothers me that we need the computer a lot more than before , we are depend on it because we keep a lot of information inside , we use the internet websites a lot...

Sorry the washer and dryer is important here, maybe if you had to do yours by hand you would see.

Hi Winterose, It's been with you for a long time so it's just understandable. I also do feel that way if I lost something real important to me...like my cellphone or some other things that was with me for a long time. But I am thinking why would you left those behind??

I know it sounds silly and a little bit crazy but I think we all feel the same way about some things at some point in our lives, especially if we've worked hard to obtain the items. I fully understand where you're coming from. You'll get over it, trust me! lol I think this happens to a lot of people with cars. We get used to our cars, some people even give them names (my mother had a maverick that we called Marvin, lol). We get used to having them, rely on them to get us where we want to go, maintain them with love and tenderness but when we finally have to say goodbye even a nice, shiny, new vehicle to take it's place is of little consolation.

I wanted a large washer and dryer all my life, I always lived in small apartments where I couldn't have them. I had the compact size but I wanted the big ones, you can say it was a dream and then 13 years ago I finally got my set and now I have to give it up.

No you are not crazy at all! I'd be the same if I had to get rid of mine and go back to the old laundrymat routine again. It took me so many years to get them. I don't ever want to be without them again. If I had to, I'd be mourning them too.

yes this was my first big washer and dryer set, I hate apartment size before, I wanted a big set all my life but never had the space or the plumbing for it. So only 13 years ago I had my first set and now I have to part with them.

They are part of the family also if you worked and saved for them they are even hardier to let go. When I move if I rent I hope I can have a washer / dryer in my place, I couldn't see myself sitting at a laundry mat doing it. I like being able to throw the clothes in and going to do this or that, I usually hang dry my clothes.

Stringer even my own grandmother did not do that, we don't do our clothes this way in my country. Yes Ricky it is hard to let go, but I have no choice. I will maybe get a small apartment size one in the future, the building does have a washer and dryer on every floor but it is not the same as my own. Please I will always have to find money to be able to pay for it as well.

I suggest you to try to wash clothes with an ordinary soap , using a bucket and hot water. My grandmother does it all the time. Even though , I almost never wash my clothes that way , my mom just washes them at the machine. We have to remember we can use our hands and legs to do many things we want , and those are very good instruments most of us have.
