CONFIRMED: Voter ID Laws Meant to Benefit Romney, Republicans

I doubt if anyone who is aware of the FACTS really believes all the new voter ID laws cropping up across the nation are intended to prevent "voter fraud"; after all, who would spend millions of dollars to prevent a problem that doesn't exist? I mean, wouldn't that kind of be like taking steps to prevent forest fires in the middle of the ocean? My state of Pennsylvania is one of those states and there have only been around 10 cases of voter fraud since 1999 out of many MILLIONS of voters. Still, we have this: "...Voter ID, which is gonna allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania - done..." That's what Pennsylvania State Representative Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny said Saturday night! You can hear Turzai's words by clicking on the link found within the following article: http://www.policymic.com/articles/10236/pennsylvania-voter-id-law-suppresses-votes-and-benefits-republicans The GOP knows full well who will be the most adversely affected by ID laws like the one in PA that states everyone must have an up-to-date state approved photo ID in order to vote. They know there are many elderly voters who no longer drive and for whom it would be a huge expense not to mention very difficult for them to do to have to travel to one of the very few PennDOT offices in the state. Some of them don't have the proper ID to get a new photo ID so they have to pay for a new birth certificate. I've heard the argument that "everyone" needs a photo ID anyway; in my mother's final years, she did NOT because she gave up driving years earlier and had no need for a passport because she didn't travel abroad. Others without drivers' licenses are many people who live in the cities because they use public transportation. Then there are college students whose school ID won't be accepted in PA or some other states and some students prefer to vote where they go to school but have out of state drivers' licenses which are also not accepted. Funny how an elderly person's expired license or a college student's license from their home state would still prove their identity but they're not acceptable; so much for the claim this is about preventing voter fraud! Anyway, it's as clear as it could be that the "targets" of these new laws are the old, the young, minorities and the poor; let's see, do they have anything else in common? Hmm...many of them tend to vote for Democrats... I guess I'm a little bit PLEASANTLY surprised that one Republican actually told the truth here! Annie

I think you should have to show ID if you go to the actual election place to vote. I mean we have to do it for everything else in life why don't we have to do it when we go to vote. I mean you have to be a valid US Citizen/Citizen of that state to vote. I mean I am not suppose to go up to Washington and vote as I could vote twice in the National Election. So I think you should have to show ID when you go to vote. I mean you need to be a valid citizen to vote in this country.

Absolutely, you need to be a citizen to vote, there's no argument there, but why should a World War II veteran who no longer has a valid and CURRENT drivers' license or a woman in her nineties have to go to the expense, time and extreme bother, especially for people of that age, to get a new ID even if the same people have been working the polls for years and know who they are? In PA some people have to drive an hour or two to get to the nearest PennDot location. That's a big deal for elderly people with little money and poor health. Annie

Well most states require you to have an ID with you. So they should have an ID with them. Also from what I have understood a normal just State ID is okay which is cheaper than a Driver license.

Probably because this clown is accused of committing voter fraud himself. I guess anything to win. Just like a Republican.

Really? I wasn't aware of that. I do agree Republicans will do anything to win from voter suppression to union busting. Annie

I disagree Annie. I believe that voter ID laws benefit the whole country, you mention that voter fraud is not a problem. Seriously?? Where have you been? This has been a problem for DECADES. It is not a new problem, but an increasing problem. Anything that can be done to curb it, in my opinion, is a good thing. I just have to ask, why don't the democrats want voter ID laws. Your argument about availability is crap. You talk about communities that have known each other for years, hhmmm you would think a neighbor would help.... I guess I just don't understand your community.

why not, instead of fighting the proposed laws, why not offer up solutions to the problem you mention, for instance, setting up voter registration in rural areas. This makes much more sense than to repeatedly trying to make fraud easier.

Any laws that combat voter fraud will benefit republicans because most voter fraud is committed by Democrats. You can pretend it doesn't happen, but we both know it does. Illegal aliens aren't well known to support republicans. Neither are convicted felons, many of whom run for office as democrats and occasionally win. ACORN was famous for massive voter registration fraud, and if you don't think that anyone they fraudulently registered ever actually voted, I have a nice healthcare bill I'd like to sell you (oops, you already bought it). One of the issues states have had to deal with are college students who live in one place and go to school in another. Without proper laws there is absolutely nothing to stop them from voting in 2 states. Again, young college students are more likely to vote democrat. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/12/21/officials-plead-guilty-in-new-york-voter-fraud-case/ http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/03/07/former-west-virginia-sheriff-county-clerk-plead-guilty-to-attempting-to-steal/

I could understand you getting bent out of shape if only the democrats were required to show photo ID, but we all have to. By making such a fuss, it makes the democrats look guilty.

Whether people think it should be a law or not because you have to show an ID for everything else is irrelevent. The way the Republicans went about to get the law passed is bull crap. They pretty much lied about the reason of why they wanted to pass the law in the first place. This is the crap that really chaps my hide. It is apparent that the majority of the people think the law should be in place why lie about it? All Republicans had to do was say that most people think is a good law anyways and if it hurts the Democrat voters more, oh well. Which would of been a lie to but one they probably could of got away with. Instead they made up this phony BS about what it is really for, and gee why do so many people hate politicians? The thing is many of us all along have been saying that and now your post confirms it as long as the many other news story I have heard about it. I just think it is a sad day when democracy is being ripped from the American peoples hand as each passing day goes by. The funny thing they don't care. I guess the really do want a corporate government. So much for that everyone gets a voice thing or ya you have a voice but it really doesn't matter what you say.

So what's the Democratic proposal in making sure that only US citizens vote in the Election? An electrical bill? A rental agreement (Oh wait, you need an ID for that)? Just saying that you are?

Ok, Annie, leave it to the liberals to make it about cheating democrats out of chads oh I mean votes. The only reason you and most libs see it as unneeded or a ploy is that it has been done wrong and illegally for so long it just seems wrong to do it right. Let's talk about wrong---An executive order giving amnesty to thousands of illegal immigrants who, by the way WILL vote democrat. Oh and about spending millions of dollars when nothing is amiss, let's ask our president how much he has spent keeping his long form birth certificate from becoming public knowledge. Nothing wrong? Why spend the money? Give me a break!

Given how voting determines the course of the entire country, and given how 2008's voters have screwed over the country for 4 years already.... I am generally in favor of any system that makes it more difficult to vote. The more ignorant and stupid people we prevent from voting, the better off the entire country is. Of course in this specific election, unless there is some amazing miracle, it really doesn't matter who wins. Romney is basically Obama in white skin. He's something of an Obama Jr. It's so bad, that in some ways I'm surprised democrats haven't come out in favor of Romney. After all, he support nearly everything Obama does.
