For me, when all seemed lost in life; divorce, homelessness etc. I received the first part of Psalm 46:10 to get me through it all. "Be still and know that I am God." Where in the Bible did you find your strength?

There are sooo many! But one of my favorites is Jer. 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This reminds me that He is my hope. He is not out to get me. He sees everything that is happening and it will be used for his purposes. I have a future. He has not abandoned me! Praise God!

You should write daily devotionals. I love this scripture too. And you are so right. He sees everything and all of it, the good and the bad, will be used for His purpose and our good (even though at the moment we don't see it). Yeah, we have a future.

Hello gtargirl As someone else said, there are too many. However, for the sake of this Discussion, I will share a few that have meant a lot to me over the years. They are probably not typcial for this topic. Mark 5:40a, "And they laughed at him." It just so happens that this one is this weeks' lectionary text, and one from which I'll be speaking, but it's also a favorite. I spent so much of my early years so very shy and worrying about people laughing at me. As an adult, I draw comfort from this text because even Jesus was laughed at, and it was okay. Their laughter did not deter him from is task, or from his relationship with his Father. Mark 8:14-21 This is one of my favorites because despite Jesus' constant teachings, the disciples are just knuckleheads and don't get / understand what he's been teaching. I imagine an incredulous look on Jesus' face as he just can't believe how boneheaded his friends are. And yet, he loves them dearly. This text gives me hope for myself because I am so often like Jesus' friends in this text. The Acts 21:4-6, This is a somewhat cozy scene for me and also gives me hope when I'm feeling all alone. I simply find it very comforting as I make my own passage through this life. Peace

Wow, I'd love to hear you speak on that. I'll have to re-read Mark 5 and check it out. I have felt like you, sometimes still do--always worrying about what people think. When I get back into His Word I do much better. I guess that's why we should read every day.

Oh and I love your description of the disciples as knuckleheads and boneheaded. There's hope for me yet.

There are a lot of them! "Indeed, every hair on your head has been counted." From Matthew: "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" Then my sister gave me a little plaque that is on my wall and I pass it every day and read it. "The Lord will guide you continually" so I know He is always looking out for me. It has the scripture it came from but I can't think of it right now and it's upstairs so I see it before I come down in the morning and before I go to bed. One of the best, though, doesn't come from the Bible or at least I don't think it does.."God will give you no more to bear than you and He can handle together."

Hello dragon54u I often think of that bird text, too. I am often outside and I'll see the little birds going about their tasks, and this text comforts me. Peace

I have to say I love all these responses. Just reading these scriptures here is very sweet. The one in Matthew is perfect. I'm always reminded of that one since I stress a lot. The last one you quoted actually does come from the Bible, I'm pretty sure, it just looks paraphrased. I really should go look it up. Love you MyLot name btw.

My sister inlaw laughed and find it weird when I told her what my favorite verse is. It can be find at Proverbs 26:11 which says "As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness". I really liked it the first time I have encountered that verse. It goes through my heart. I told myself that I would never return to my old self and would never repeat my mistakes.

It is a funny verse to have as favorite but then I read why you like it. The explanation is just awesome. It is a good reminder that we should never return to our old self. Very nice Paper_Doll.

Jeremiah 29:11 has been the verse to get me through many hard times. It made me realize that there is a reason for things that happen and that God has a plan and a future for me, plans to make things better not hurt me. When we were homeless this verse went through my head over and over again. I kept reminding myself of it. Definitely got me through my darkest hours...

I love that verse too. In California I used to work for Focus on the Family and when they left for Colorado, Shirley Dobson gave that verse to the ones who were staying behind. It was probably a good verse for the ones who were making the move with them. Anyhow, I know what it's like to be homeless. Looks like the Lord pulled you through some very dark hours. And good for you to trust that He would.

OH that's a great one. Isn't great that for everything we go through there's a scripture to pull us through? May those sad and lonely times be few and far between, my friend.

It's pretty cool huh? For me, it just stops me in my tracks. And, trust me, I need to be still more often.
