My son has to be on a medication that causes him to lose weight. So his dietitian has him on a higher calorie diet to help with the weight lose. I am looking for recipes that are higher in calorie, but that are not really bad for him. I want the food to still be relatively healthy, but can also help keep more weight on him. I wish taking him off the medication was an option, but he is a high functioning autistic with ADHD, so the meds keep him level and happier. He likes most foods, he just won't eat potatoes or green beans. I just don't want to add a whole bunch of unneeded fat into his diet. He gets bigger portions so the rest of the family can usually eat the same meal. I hate making one thing for him and something else for the rest of the family. I was also wondering about fish. He loves fish, but I don't know which ones are cheaper and good tasting. I can't eat fish, but the rest of the family loves it. That's when mama gets a sandwich, lol.

Hello minnie,
One time when I was trying to find foods to gain weight, I came acrros a chiropractor in my city.
He told me that to stay trimmed and to have those good muscles, I have to increase my fruit and vegetable intake.
He also emphasized on legumes and some red meat.
He also pointed that fish which are not grown in ponds are good source of protien.

He likes lentils and I think they are in the legume family. He also likes red meats, though I try to get the lower fat cuts, since my daughter has a problem breaking down animal fat. I win with one and lose with the other. I did not know that pond raise fish were not as good for you. Do you know why that is? One of the industries around where I live is farm raised fish, so that is mainly whats in the stores. I think they do have some that are 'wild' as they say on the cards in the market. They cost a little more, but for something that is good for him I will pay the prices.

I understand you as a mother looking for the right food for your child.
Sometimes having children with "special" needs is challenging.
Someone told me that having such child is somtimes a luck
.
They say you are blessed as the Almight knows you have the patience, intellect, will or in short you can do the "job" for her.

Hi Minnie.
I am no good about this calorie intakes and what not. But I guess eating rice is better since it's carbohydrates...and meat is protein so it is good for him to buikd some muscles. I guess there are a lot of variety and a professional advise by the dietitian or nutritionist is a big help for you to cook variety of foods and not just being repetitive.
Happy Mylotting. ^^

There are wonderful recipes online. Some good sites are allrecipes.com and Epicurious.com You can check there and ask for his special needs. It`s difficult to give you ideas if we don`t know exactly what he cna eat and what he likes to eat. Legumes are a good and healthy source of carbohidrates and there are awesome recipes that you can make with them. I made a post a little while ago about a bean salad that was a success at my birthday party.

a pleasant day minnie0923,
with reference to your query, perhaps you can check out on the net as they displays good recipes with this type of serving. and not only that, they also shows the procedure on how to prepare it. in addition, if you can try to forward a pm to me for the site that you can write on directly so you can have the basic recipe.
