Wait or work?

A friend just sent me this text message:
"Good things happen to those who wait, better things for those who work for it."
I'm just stunned in a bit and made me think that this is really true.
What are the things you want to wait and let it happen? What are the things you work for it just to get it?
Just want to share.
Have a nice day ahead.

One thing is certain. You would have to work to get the things you want, and then wait for result. When you plant a sapling,it doesn't start bearing fruits just the next moment. You'd have to wait. You must have the patience necessary to see fruits on it.I want to learn maths and I have already started learning it,but know I can't become a mathematician overnight.I have been putting in the efforts, but I can't be in a hurry.I would have to wait to allow time to my efforts to fructify.

In my opinion you should work to get anything you want in your life. If you get something without any hard work, then that thing will not be that much valuable to you. So I think instead of waiting and see what your fate brings to you, I think you should try to change your fate by hard work.

And the best things happen to those who seek the Divine Providence. I had sent similar quotation to my friend who was hired after several years of waiting in the admin department of our agency. I intentionally cut the last phrase of the quotation. She never ask who got the best thing.

What about the BEST things in life. Are those promised to the patient people? Waiting for good things to happen ..it is the wish of most people on earth. However nothing turns as we desire it to happen, It is all Destiny which plays havoc with feeble and frail humans!!!

Each of these actions has it's own time and place. If you want to boil water, you must do the work to get the water started on the heat, then of course you must wait. Each has it's own specal applicaiton.

Hi Mikyung, this is not an either or situation.
When you work towards something, you still have to wait for results to happen.
For example, you want to run marathon.
It does not mean that the minute you start training, you can run a marathon.
You still need to work slowly towards it.
Perhaps running just a mile to start with, and increase by another mile a week later. When you work hard enough, and wait long enough for your body to develop the stamina, you will run a full marathon.
Many people in the workplace has to work very hard for a whole year, just so that they can get the bonus or increment or promotion which takes place just once a year. This is the effect of working, and waiting, at the same time.
Do not ever think of waiting, and working, as separate issue.

Thanks for the reply scheng1. This is something related to the result. Better result if you work for it. If you just wait and let it happen without talking any appropriate action, the result maybe not as good as what you want it to. -"what if I did my best on this".
Knowing on how to be just passive or to be active on a certain scenario is also a good trait. Being assertive as others call it.
In my case, my wife and I really wanted to have a baby soon, we have almost a decade of trying, so we we are actively working on to have one for the past few years. We go to doctors, laboratories, take the necessary medicines. In a way, we are not just waiting for the baby to come, we are putting an effort.
I think, we can apply this "waiting and working" thing here - individually or collectively. Different scenarios, different point of views. I just love it here.
I really appreciate that scheng1

Waiting for the proper plan seems a good idea. But working to an improper plan is haste. It's because the best plans need more time to be fully conceived. Part of waiting is rooting out flaws in the plan, hence making the wait worth it.

In my point of view.. we have to work hard first in almost all the things in life to achieve... secondly we have to wait for the things to happen. for example. study hard for exams but wait for the results.. similarly. we have to make hard work and prepare ourselves but we should not act immediately and wait for the right time to do it or perform it. Some Old people often advising that "do the right things in right time". whatever it may be hard work or patience. it should be done in right time.

I am waiting to have a baby. Its been 7 years that I am married but up to now we dont have yet a child but were working on it. My husband and I already visited doctors to help us to have a child so soon. We already some test to find out what wrong with us and finally we just need to drink some multivitamins and diet then I might get pregnant so soon. I believe that there always have a good reason for everything, I did not get pregnant for this past 7 years maybe because we cant support our child during those years but now that were stable I believe were capable to support it all the way and we can able to have child so soon just waiting for the right time.

it depends upon which situation you are applying this statement. but for me, you should work a bit of the things to be placed on the path where you want them to be. this is your life and things are not just happening in what you like. you need to work even just a bit.

Well, I believe in waiting and sometimes also working for something. Like these past few weeks. At a job interview I went to, I got word that I passed the final interview and that training would start the following Monday. A few good things about this job is that it's just a ride away from my home, I will actually cut my expenses in half, and I can even visit my parents anytime I want because they live nearby. The best part is, it's about 10 minutes to church, and I usually spend a lot of time at church for practice or projects. But then I was informed during the weekend that training had been moved. So I decided to wait. I'm not sure if I should still find another job because of the great benefits of working at this company. But I need a job, and I need it fast!
So now I'm not sure if I should wait for the job to start, or if I should go look for another job. I was contacted once more and was officially informed that I made the final interview. But it's been two weeks, and they haven't said anything about the job offer or the start of the training. So I'm still unsure if I should continue with this job. But I know that if I don't wait for it, I won't get that chance to work near my home. And another thing that's stopping me is that even if I try looking for another job, will I be assured that it would start just as soon?
I think I'm just griping. Anyway, that's one thing I'm waiting for, and not sure if I should really work for it by asking for a specific start date, or just leave it as it is.
