Things lost whilst traveling

I went on my trip around the world when I was 20 to 21 years old. In Fiji I thought I had lost my dressing gown. I left it by mistake on a tiny tropical island. Amazingly they let me have it back by getting a message to me at the airport. Yes, they had kindly sent my dressing gown to the airport and so I was able to get it back before traveling on to Australia.
I did my washing in Cairns but someone nasty stole it! I had to get a train the next day and felt so strange without most of my clothes. Luckily I was able to go clothes shopping in Brisbane.
When I was 19 years old I lost my coat in Tunisia. I was cold when I arrived back in England with no coat. You see at Easter time it is so cool in my home country a coat is needed usually.
Now I am older I don't lose things so easily. Although in my student days I got a train late and was tired. I left one of my bags on board being so forgetful. Luckily I went to the lost property office and got it back a week later.
Which things have you lost on your travels?

Oh yes, I agree, we do improve with age! I think we are more care-free when we are younger. When I landed in New Zealand on the South Island in Christchurch, I realised I had left my drivers licence back in Australia at the video camera hire shop! Arrggh! I called the business right away & they put it on a fast courier. The total delay was one day, just long enough to miss getting cut off when in Milford Sound due to the heavy snowfall blocking the road!
I did lose my wallet recently, but it was returned by the police later that night (11:35am - which I had to drive in to pick up)... minus all of the $385 cash! I reckon the police took it, but I guess it went to a just cause!

I am pretty sure that I have heard your dressing gown story before on here. It seems very familiar! The worst thing that I have ever lost while travelling was my $500 camera in San Francisco. I left it behind in a car rental place after it got accidentally kicked under the rental car that we were packing.
We went back not long after to try and find it but none of the staff had seen it...apparently! I did not trust them. I think tat at least one of them had taken it!

I am a careful person when I have a travel. Even though, I had left my shirt in a hotel. I realized it when I came home. It was disappointing that this hotel didn't call me to return this shirt to me. I felt disappointed because it was a nice hotel and charged high. But their service seemed to need an improvement.
I love China

The only thing I have ever lost that I was devastated about was my camera - it wasn't even an expensive camera but, what was horrible was that there were still picures on it of my dog that I hadn't taken off of it yet so I lost those andI was absolutely devastated.

I lost some clothes in a hostel room in Estonia. I had quite a lot of clothes, because I had spent several months in Estonia. My last stop before I was going to back to Denmark was in Tallinn. I spent some days there and I placed some of my clothes in the closet and left the rest of the clothes in my bag. On my last day an Estonian friend was going to pick me up and drive me to the airport. I packed my books, toiletries and most the other things and then I hurried out to meet my friend because I didn't want to miss the plane. I totally forgot about the clothes that I had placed in the closet and I left Estonia without them.

I lost my camera once in Tokyo during a layover there. I was devastated too...lol. I don't know if it was taken or if I just laid it down during my shopping there. I had to go out early after my arrival and find some disposables. It was funny because they were Fuji disposables and when I got back and went to have them developed, they said it was the first time they had ever seen original Fuji film. Great pictures though.

I have learned not to put things in the drawers in the hotels. I lost some books one time when on Friday Harbor. We had to ake the ferry and I didn't have time to go back. It wan't too bad though because I had my clothes and money. It does tend to teach us a lesson though doesn't it?

Hi Maxine,
I lost one of my bags at Kuala lumpur airport. But it was unnoticed to me. We took a taxi and started to go to the city. Suddenly my wife asked have you bring the bag. We checked and did not find the bag. Already we passed 10 km way. We requested the taxi driver to bring back us to the air port. The diver was very polite and again came back to the air port. we searched through out the airport for half an hour. Suddenly
we found the bag in a corner. None touched the bag. We were so grateful.

I am always attentive to thins that I have when travelling so j always check it every time I leave to avoid lost. But my sister before used to lost her wrist watch every time she was on travel, I think it was around 3 times already so my mom don't allow her to bring watch during travel. But for now, maybe she will be more attentive.
