I wonder the calculation of the penalty took by Pirlo and Ramos as the ball was rolling gradually in the air while the goalkeeper was already on the ground after the dive. Is the penalty a master-class and should others learn from it? While keepers be able to read such penalty take?

ya for sure its a new and innovative way of taking penalties and i am sure people will follow this hot trend but it will be a tough day at office for the keepers as they will find it hard to decipher

Sure and well said. Very soon I believe that a good keeper will begin to understand the body language of the penalty taker

Both players got to be really cool to take such penalty in the circumstances. Usually, the goalkeeper will anticipate and try to move to the area before the kick is taken. When they do so, a chip down the middle is almost a certain goal. Of course, when it pulls off, it is great, and when it fails, expect the some amount of flaks coming the same way.

I think, a very fast goalkeeper will be able to react back and interrupt the ball. A player taking such a penalty must be certain that the keeper has already made an almost irreversible move before taking or else, it will be straight into the hands of the keeper without move

The thing about such penalties are they look so cool when they come off. But if they fail then it looks so ugly that the players would be blamed of being too casual and not understanding the seriousness of the situation. It is really a tricky move due to that. I would still prefer the ball hitting the roof off the goal rather than this cheeky attempt. Cheers! Ram

hello, Your question is very good and i must say that, this type of penalty is not new. Pirlo himself has done this before against spain in the last world cup, but at that time , the goalkeeper waited for the ball and didn't drive through. So he simply caught the ball standing on his position. I think its a great technique if you get success. Its difficult for the keeper to understand the short beforehand, so there's a maximum chance that you will get an easy goal.

I have discovered that it is called Panenka's penalty. Panenka who helped Czech Republic defeat Germany 1976 first played this penalty. But I think that if the goalkeeper is fast enough to stand on his feet, he can still obstruct the ball from going in. Don't you think so?

I really liked both the kicks. At first it was done by Pirlo during the penalty shoot out against England. Then it is done by Ramos too in the last match. I am so glad to see that kind of kicks .

That penalty is called 'Panenka' penalty named after Antonin Panenka who use that in the 1976 European Championship final for Czech Republic to over Germany. I wonder what it takes to build the confidence to play such a kick
