Wowzer! We (Nation) Lost a Lot Today..

United States
June 28, 2012 7:04pm CST
We (the U.S.) lost a lot today, lots of protection.. the further blurring of the lines of our checks and balances, checking government power.. especially as the Supreme Court not only decides based on the constitution, as in times past, but also upon precedent.. for democrats that includes additional sweeping powers given to republican presidents as well.. we (or our kids, etc) could all be in for quite a ride as each party gallops (us) forward.. What do you think? Is the U.S. government simply behind the times?

It is interesting about the Medicare portion. That is sort of a game changer. Many of the states will probably opt out, but I do not know how long that will happen. And yes, many will be out to vote in November. This is going to get heated. However, there needs to be some health reform, but I do not know how to do it. It used to be called health insurance, but now it is being changed to health plan, so others can claim a right to it. It is health insurance, and it has to be purchased as insurance in case of major expenses. Many have figured out how to cheat the system by not getting insurance but demand health care.

Calling this "health care" or "health plan" reform is a clever way to make it personal and urgent to all unthinking people. It's all about destroying private insurance and giving government power over our lives--literally. I wish people would stop calling it "health care" when it is actually catastrophic changes to the way we buy insurance. It has nothing to do with hands on health care, only the financial and power aspects of it. My insurance went from $267 to $350 beginning in August. I had to choose another plan with fewer benefits. This is only the beginning. My insurance has doubled since Mr. Obama took office and started threatening socialized medicine.

about half of the states are looking at either nullification or not implementing all of the law. Over on FB, there are even those calling for secession. It's gonna heat up in America, and it won't just be the thermometer.

Probably not a downhill roll and is just a phase your government is going through. If not brace yourself for a big one soon. If it is any consolation, here in my country we don't have all the benefits you have there. We've been in a downhill spiral for decades now and I ain't seeing any improvement anytime soon.

We did lose a lot but I've been listening and watching people comment and a thought struck me--by Justice Roberts casting his vote as he did, knowing that 60% of Americans don't want this health insurance reform, did he just do his best to insure that we get a new POTUS? I thought at first he was out of his mind but maybe not. This could win the election for Romney as he is promising to give waivers to every state and thus make the law moot. I'm sick of the gov't ignoring the will of the people. We need health insurance changes but this is the most expensive, ineffective way to do it. There are better ways and I hope we get a new prez that will make some common sense changes.

I hope you are right. If that was his motivation, then he was sending a message to the Obama administration. If this is the case, he never buckled under the pressure. But even so, he has made many enemies. Who? 60% of Americans. And like another myLotter said, he has given congress the ability to tax us on whatever they want. No new POTUS, then his "plan" backfired. And we are in for a world of hurt.

Read Article 1 section 7. It is definately NOT Constitutional. you're right, many are saying he killed two birds with one stone, assured Romney is elected and given him a sure open door to repeal. If you don't want the Affordable Healthcare TAX, vote every Democrat out of office this November. If you do want it, move to Candada and pay the TAX there.

Hello, flowerchilde. I will say this much. We really are the leader of the times. I just think that since the decision of the supreme court, as other myLotters have already pointed out, things here will change for good. You are right in that we lost a lot, but in reality it has been running head long into this. Since I spent a lot of time in prison, I never really kept up with what was happening in our country. I know, its sad, but now I have been watching so much, and hearing so much, it is hard to decide who is worse. It is hard to even make sense of why Obama wants all Americans to pay his $1 per month surcharge for abortions. This too is in his "health care" plan. Just wait, it will get worse. Now that I am paying more attention to politics, and my well being, I hear that the "down under" is not that bad a place to be... Have a great day.

If being behind the times means marching to a different drummer, I suppose we are; but that is one of the things that sets the United States apart from other nations, or it use to. Why President Obama or anyone else in government thinks we should be like other nations is beyond me, especially when those other nations are doing so poorly. Roberts' decision may result in a new President, but it has established a precedent that could end up being worse for our nation than he realizes. He has given Congress the right to tax us on just about anything.

U.S is always on the list of powerful countries , in which "power" means everything. Therefore, I don't think that U.S is behind times. There might be some things that to be concern of and needed abrupt fixation.
