Is making money online a realistic goal nowadays?

Making money online has been something we all wish to achieve. But why is it that so many of us fail? The competition out there is so large that we are lucky to make enough just to pay a small bill each month. Some of us, only enough to buy a cup of coffee once per month. There is so much hype surrounding this topic lately, and honestly, I have yet to meet someone in my own life that has found success online. I love Mylot and I love that we can come together as a community and rant and rave, or even just have a casual conversation. Yes, there is the added bonus of making some money, but I have to admit, that is not the reason I am here!! Any thoughts?

Well a lot of places where you can make money such as MyLot don't really give you a lot unless you put in hours and hours of work. I think this is why people don't make a lot becaue they can't be bothered working so hard for it. Some of these sites have potential to make some extra money each month if you could get referals. Imagine having 100 direct referals here or another site that were all active and participating. You could be making a few dollars a day. Even if you made $2 a day that's $60 extra dollars a month. But it's not easy and people just don't stick with sites for too long if they are only making pennies :(

Well somewhere like MyLot for example, it's an enjoyable way to earn a bit extra so I don't feel I'm wasting my time. Also gives me something to do that's productive whilst earning which is a bonus :)

I think the key with this is, you have to realize that your time will become very precious. It is something you have to be willing to give up to just make a few bucks~~

Many people have the false misconception that earning money online is much less work than working in the office. This statement is false, even to the point where working online is more work than the office. Once people figure that out, they tend to quit. To the few that do stay, it is even more work just to churn out a couple dollars a month. You would rather be working in the office and earning much more money.

Yep..I earn money online. It's certainly a lot of work.
Sometimes it can be more trouble than worth. Might as well stick to your real life everyday job because you'll know you get paid every month (in my country).

Earning online is very hard, as I am sure many of us know here already. At least with mylot, you are able to vent, discuss, or even comment on all things you already do in everyday life. Sure you aren't going to become a millionaire overnight, but you can make a few bucks. Isn't that what it is all about? To many believe they can be rich overnight on the internet and unfortunately, this is not the truth. They then just give up, which to me just means more chances for me to earn more.

It is realistic if you know where and how. There are many ways to earn online. There are home-based call centers, typing jobs, and more. You just have to know the right sites and be more industrious. Online job is just as hard as any other job. It is called a job because you have to work for it not just sit and earn, although that is how it literally looks like. I ahve read many who have made it fine in the online market, and still many tried and failed. Like in the real world, the online world is just as hard. Good luck on your endeavors!

Thanks choybel! That is correct, a job is a job. Millions cannot be made overnight. There is too many out there with this type of thoughts in their heads!

To me, it is.
The first time I tried to earn online, I do not believe I can do it.
But when I learned some skills, I believe it is realistic to earn online.
The only thing that makes first timers fail is that they rush on things.
I mean, they do things without enough experience or skill to back them up.
As a result, they abondon what they want to do.

Because some of them is lack of motivation. Earning online takes a lot of patience before you taste the fruit of your hard work not all become successful but for those who became successful I can say the have the right attitude. Earning online is a learning process day by day you never stop and be contented at one earning ideas alone, sooner or later you will learn that there are more better ways to earn money online than your previous one.

I believe it is realistic as well, but time is of the essence!! Most will give up and most will make others think it is impossible. Which in turn means, the more that give up, the more chance others that don't have!

That depends on how dedicated you are. Problem is most people out there blog or write about making money online as if this is the easiest job online and would make you rich within 24 hours. The truth is, making money online is equivalent to your regular day job with only a 70% chance of getting paid.
By this, i mean you also need to work 8 hours a day or more, you need to commit yourself to it, find referrals, promote programs etc. if you are not that committed to this then don't even expect to buy a cup of coffee with your income online!
I know most people are REALLY making a living with their online work. But I would reassure you that these people are very very hard working, and would work 12 hours a day online.

In the long run, experience will teach you. And even though some of those Gimmicks are really annoying, you'll learn to understand that, that is the only way they know how to make money (by tricking others) which is not advisable. You'll learn to ignore those things in the end and you'll know what's legit and what is not.
Everything has to be difficult at first, because it is the time when we don't understand much. The joys and woes of experience. ^__^

I think most people who are making online money says it's realistic...but since for me, it isn't, I should definitely say, not my goal at all.
Well, I am hoping for success but with my years of stay in here...I just haven't earn that big amount that would make me quit my regular job and just focus online.
There are a lot of people who are focusing online jobs and I do salute them since it's hard for me. And I would terribly miss my profession/job if I will quit so it's definitely impossible to just leave.
Happy Mylotting!

hi gottasayit74,
I was asking the same question two years ago, "how on earth is it possible for me to earn more than $50 a month?" And until now I am still on the look on how to earn more than that. Although I am able to earn around $25 - $70 a month (depending on my ability and enthusiasm to stay longer hours online) I still seek for better ways to earn more and have a more stable income through the internet. I was thinking a couple of years ago that earning a dollar is quite impossible but with determination and right attitude everything is attainable and I can make my plans work.
I love mylot too and to tell you the truth I don't earn much in here but I am still here. Sometimes, working online doesn't need to be all boring and serious. Having Mylot on the side can make my blues away.

That is so true daintykane. I only joined as a friend mentioned mylot to me. I had no idea you could earn a few bucks here and there. I honestly didnt join for that. I love being able to get right in with conversations and seeing what others have to say! Blues blues, go away, mylot is here for another day!! Cheesy, I know!

The sites where i am earning money online, I am doing it because I enjoy it. The extra few bucks a month, a few hundred a year go to purchasing gifts. I really do not feel that I could make a living online just through sites like this.
So I have my day job, and use my free time on sites like mylot because I enjoy it.
Also, with some of the sites I get rewarded for things that I would have bought or done anyways so it is a win win.

I think making money is easy if you love what you do and if you do what earns more. It all depends on the demand in the market. I think making money online is somewhat new thing to many people and also there are not much opportunities yet.
Internet has helped a lot getting us jobs at different places and at diffenert companies but if we think that sitting in front of internet will give us whole the earning required then i think that is not possible yet for many of us.
Only a few are doing this job and only they know the magic behind it. I wish that I could have that magic with me also.

Mostly because everyone needs money to survive it's the fact of life because nothing is free nowadays (at least there's still free samples, free downloads and etc)
Anyone can be successful earning online. You'll just have to never give up and continue trying until you get success.

So many of us fail because we have no right idea and knowledge of sites where we can do right kind of tasks according to our knowledge and capability. Going systematically is the key of success online. I am sure you know some of those sites and you shall know more in due course of time, cheers.

I'll echo Petersum's comment with the following. It is clearly not a realistic goal. If it were, there wouldn't be posts questioning whether you can even make a normal salary online. Compare the difficulty of an online job with that of a local menial job. If you asked me if its realistic to do the latter, I would say absolutely, look at the people who are doing it, and imagine what would happen if they didn't get paid. For an online job its unclear if anyone is really make much of any money at all. That is a bad bad sign.
Let me ask, why aren't there sites out there that the internet community trusts, where you can go, work hard, and make a menial wage each day? If those don't exist, how can there be more lucrative jobs for the masses of online earners? With anything there are always "some" people who make a good deal of money doing something, but let's talk actual probabilities, my guess would be you have a 1 in 10,000 chance of making six figures in one year on the internet. You have a much, much, much, better chance of doing that not online (1 in 10?) (at least in the US).

I can honestly say that however big money is made online, it is quite a mystery to me. I guess the creators of such jobs intend to keep it this way. Usually, making a salary online involves a legitimate business with opportunities to telecommute. I would imagine you could work online in one of two ways. One would be as in independent contractor which would possibly allow you to work from afar, but it may not offer job related benefits such as medical care and paid vacation. Another way, is to use your home computer to do some of the things if not most of the things you would normally do inside an office you may already work from as an employee. Your abilities may be limited working at home as an employee, but with that understanding, arrangements could possibly be made for you to work accordingly and be compensated appropriately.

Both are equally important: we chat and get paid. It is perhaps because of its members mylot still exists now. Therefore, members are worth paying. I guess that is fair.

i know one thing in every field you will found more than 90 percent failure, because they always think about quitting, donot have plan, donot have strategy, always critcize, donot want to learn from there mistakes, but there are 10 percent people who do opposite and earn,so i just starting to learn those techniques and those techniques are simple
winners donot those things different
they do things with a different attitude

I think the problem is the market is much too saturated on the internet. Say for example, the idea of selling e-books online about making money.
Now, if you were the first, you probably made money. However, overnight, unimaginable billions of people started selling e-books online on making money online. So, immediately if you are one of those, you are one in a billion. What are your chances that somebody is going to buy YOUR book? One in a billion I guess.
I think though that the problem is that the goal has become making money, instead of adding value. If you're selling value, maybe you'll make money.
But philosophizing about it is about all I can offer on the subject for now :)

People are very much interested in online earnings, day by day the online workers count is increasing gradually and a tough competition is going on online earnings. Various methods are available for online earnings and we must select the proper method based on our interest and give our full focus to it to achieve a good income from it.
Lot of people failed in online earnings due to their mistakes. At the beginning people don't know more about online jobs and join with some scams, some people invested their money with this scams and lost it. We must be very careful and do a lot of research while joining with a new site. Don't join with investment sites, a lot of free ways are available to make money.
Since most of the people all over the world having computer and internet knowledge and doing the online works, a great competition is going on with online earnings. We must select a field and improve our skills in our field to earn a good money from online. Some people thought that we can make very few money from online, in fact we have the ability to make a lot based on our experience. If we find the correct site and give our best to it, surely we will make a good income from online jobs and fulfill our needs and necessities with our earnings.

People think that making money online is easy and they try to make money online. But it is not the fact because making money on the net is not easy as it is in office i think. There are some successful money makers online but the fact is they worked hard by spending lots of hours on the net. Many of us don't know the concepts like if we make a blog we have spend lots of hours on the net but we take it easy. After that we realize that we should make it unique. We mistake in tags, keywords and some other things which we should do.The people making money online successfully have money to invest or they have very vast vocabulary in a field e.g. like web designing and many more.
