why is reading important?

Reading is a very important thing. If we stopped reading and just listened to audio-recordings of things, because we're too lazy to read them, eventually, we'd forget how to read altogether. And writing would probably end up going too. We'd be a world without a written history from this point on. It would be awful! On a related note, I've always been a book enthusiast. It's a great hobby.

Reading offers a huge number of benefits to the people who engage in it. One of these is that it certainly helps in adding up our vocabulary words, and other related skills when it come to speaking/writing in English and other concerned languages. The passion in reading could also lead to a start in the field of writing. Reading stimulates our imagination, and we could go to different places in anywhere in the world when in fact we are only staying in one particular place. It helps in improving your knowledge about various topics and areas of study. These are only a few of the good things we could get from reading. Furthermore, reading could get addictive, but we will go on benefiting from it. Enjoy reading, fellow Mylotters! :)

I totally agree. To read is one of my favorites hoobies, because we are transported to differents places, we can learn a lot of things and it opens our mind. It doesn't matter what we like to read, but every book gives us new ideas and knowledges. And even when you read the same book more then one time, it is not a waste of time, because every time you read a book you understand it differently. Books are a realy good and funny hobby. yes its important. Reading is a mental process and its helps us to use our brain and we get/understand many points and get the reasons while reading. I was not into reading previously but i started reading and after few months i found that my concentration power has increased and also my vocabulary .reading helps us in getting new and creative ideas. i have found all these when i started reading.

yes im agree, reading is a good way to widen up your brain and improve your vocabulary and improve your knowledge

For loads of reasons -expands your vocabulary -you read and get to know about cultures, historical periods etc. -you are going to understand every kind of written text better -your mind is trapped into its own thinking :), makes you think -makes you escape from your own problems -you become more well-read and you increase your general knowledge -you acquire an appreciation for the virtue, for the value, for the beautiful -it makes your imagination more vivid

Reading helps you relate with people ,if you are well versed in most of the current topics ,you can talk even with strangers and widen your circle of contacts .one need not feel lonely if widely read.

Reading is a great way to broaden your horizons as a human being and also as a writer. We do not know everything. We can read educational books, newspapers, journals, non fiction, fiction, everything from articles on how to boil an egg to honing your skills as a film director. There is no information today that you cannot research and cannot benefit from. To have knowledge is to have power and one way to educate yourself is to read anything you can get your hands on that interests you. As a child I would wait patiently for Thursdays for the mobile library to arrive and park for three hours on my grandfather's property. As a ten and twelve year old I read mysteries appropriate for my age, and also learned of the book by DH Lawrence, Lady Chatterly's Lover which my mother did not want me to read yet at twelve, but I managed to get the book and read it under the blanket with a torch. If I were to be banished to an island and could choose a book, I would take along John Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath. I can read that book over and over again - not for the plot - but for the beauty of the writing.

yes that's true. it also opens our imaginations. it plays our minds. it brings us to places we have never been. it gives us good and bad moods. it teaches us many things. reading is really really good.

I love reading! I love reading novels and magazines. I love to read because, like you said, I can widen my pool of knowledge and my views and ways of thinking. When I am reading a novel, I feel that I have been transported to a whole other world an it's a nice feeling because I live in reality everyday and it can tend to get boring. Also, I read when Im completely stressed out from school work... Reading is an excellent way to relax!

I love to read (when i get the extra time to). I agree that your mind has to keep busy. I read to escape it all, to lose myself in a different world for awhile. It also adds more knowledge for ourselves which will only allow us to go farther in life.

Yes It does, It does not only develop your brain but also the person's patience.
