Walking the streets at night

It was a few years back, I went to Washington to see my son. His Aunt, Uncle, and Mom met me at the greyhound bus station, and we drove to the ferry, and took it to Bremerton Washington. Then After I had stayed a couple of weeks, they were complaining how they didn't want to drive me all the way to Seattle at night. So they dropped me off at the Bremerton Ferry, and I had to find my way from there to the Greyhound Bus station by myself at night. I had no idea where I was going, Frankly I was afraid. They wrote me some very bad directions, that once I got off the ferry in Seattle, made no sense at all. I had to walk around aimlessly, watching my watch, worrying. I asked about 5 to ten people if they could steer me in the right direction, and most of them were nice. I'm from a small town, so being lost in this huge city, all by myself at night was really freaking me out. But I tried to keep my cool, and not look so much like a tourist. I saw people sleeping in front of shop stores in the masses. Never seen anything like it. I saw a bunch of scary looking people, who I thought were gang members. (who knows for sure.) For the most part, I was lucky. I finally arrived at the bus station after getting twisted and turned, and lost and afraid. I was so relieved. As soon as I got there they were loading. I just made it in time. After I settled down, I was angry at them for making me do that. Then when I came for a visit the next time, not to my surprise they made me not only go back alone, but come up alone too. This time I didn't know how to get to the ferry from the bus. I tried asking someone for a ride, they demanded too much money. Then I ran into this homeless person, and he walked me all the way there, and of course asked me for some money. I was grateful to him so gave him ten dollars, he looked very happy. Nice guy, he waited with me and chatted until my ferry got there. So after that I was an expert on the walking route from the ferry to bus station and back. I guess they had a free bus that does the route for free, but I didn't feel comfortable taking that. This knowledge came in handy the next vist after this, because I brought my son back with me, and I didn't want to get lost with a 3 year old. I knew my way there and back and all around. I got to explore a small part of Seattle, and I feel greater for it.

I would not have visited a second time around or third for that matter. The would not be able to just leave me to fend for myself out there. That was just terrible and I don't like it.

I don't like it either, but I came back for my son, not for them, I knew they would always be mean to me, and not treat me right, because they didn't like me in my son's life. Check out my post about getting lost in cali if you like this one.

Yes it was a scary situation, but I am glad I have this as a memory. It grew me as a person. Well, this is a great site to post to. Hope to be hearing much from you in the future.
