My colleague's son will go to the university soon and they have a headache to choose the major for their son. My colleague's son wants to be a vet but his family doesn't like it. I don't think there is something wrong to be a vet. It is a honorable career to take good care of the animals. Besides, it is not a very popular major and therefore it shall be easier to find the job after graduation. And most of all, he is interested in it.

I think that is wonderful and he should be able to choose his own career. In fact, the choice he is making, his family should be extremely proud, because I heard that in order to become a vet, one must work harder than one who wants to be a doctor. This is probably because a vet's patient can't say where it hurts and for how long and how much it hurts. So bad grades in vet school, more than likely one will not get a license. So this man must be really smart to take on a major like that..

I agree with you about the profession. It is a good profession, taking care of animals is a very nice job. I don't know the job opportunites at your place but at my place I think the opportunities are not that much bright.
What really important is the someone's interest. I he should go for it if he is really interested in doing the that job.

Thanks dear Sanjay regarding your views about he profession of a Vet! Yes, this is a nice job! I am sorry to state that I differ from your views that the opportunities are not bright in this profession in India! A hard working sincere Vet is very much in demand in India ! They can fetch very handsome salary with all he facilities including free accommodation, electricity with back up, servant, car and other facilities! What all required is the dedication and hard work! This I am saying so confidently because I am a Vet and I am in this profession for last 30 years!

That's good profession already. In our country, it is one of the most in demand job because of livestock business here. It is really much better to let their son choose what course to take up because in the near future, he will be the one who will make decision with his life. It should be of his interest because that will be his profession for the rest of his life.

In my opinion,it is a wonderful career. It's common to have a pet in a family in the current society,a vet becomes both important and essential for our lives.I have a dog in my family, when it got sick I need to take him to saw a vet and paid a lot of money for a vet.
Therefore, it's a enjoyable,profitable career.

Your colleague's son is a likely young man . He has his own mind and chooses to do what he likes to do.The reason why his parents oppose their son's will is that they turn up their noses at vet.In the last analysis, vanity is doing mischief in their minds.

So since the parents are paying , they get to choose a major?Wow. What would happen over here more 8 out of 10 times, the kids would sign up for that major , get out of school and then Not find a job in that field. Only a few would sa No way, it is my life.Me? I feared that is what my mom was going to do so I just plainly said I will choose a college with a high tower so I could jump off! That's how I got out of going to college!I agree that it is the son's life and he should choose. But I can understand the parents saying it is their money! So that's when he should say I'll go Without your help! But I'm so American! We seem to have it in our DNA to say F@ck off , I'm going my Own way!

There goes the saying, "Interest is the greatest teacher." So if this boy of your colleague's is interested in this major. I am sure he will be able to study it well and will later be an excellent vet in the future. Parents are supposed to support their son in choosing his own major. Nowadays there are so many people raising pets and they need to have vet to take care of them when they are ill. I think that it is a good idea to be a vet.

i think being a vet is a great job, i know when my yougest daughter was very young she always said she wanted to be a vet when she grew up, she is now 14 and to this day she still loveds animals ands has the heart to do it.. i would love to see her go in this feild she is a very bright child .. and i know she would do well
but as expected she has now come up with more options as to waht she wants to do
so im not sure, but what ever she chooses we we will all support her, she is a great kid.. i know she also loves to write she takes that after me..and i hear she is good at that as well.. i feel she is so smart becasue she is a book worm and reads all the time..i hear that helps make you smarter.. :)

He is the one who needs to continue his study so its better if he make his own choice based on his own interest. Who cares if the family does not like it. It's his future. This is one big problem when a student do not get his/her family support when they want to pursue their own career. The family should support him and be proud as it is not just like other job-its a noble job to treat animals just like becoming a doctor to treat the people.(^^)

We have dogs (the ordinary ones) but we bring them to vets. We need such doctors!
