My friend and I have been looking at engagement rings. She's the same friend who's boyfriend is coming down on Saturday and he's going to propose while he's here spending time with her. She has no idea because he told her he wasn't able to get a ring. The past few days we've been at the mall and looked at engagement rings in different stores.
What I don't understand is pricing. How much are you supposed to spend on one? I've heard that trick that it's some percentage of the monthly or annual salary but I don't know how true that is. Also, why are they different prices for the same size carat? We looked at a 1 carat diamond and it was 10,000 but another 1 carat single diamond was about 2 grand. Both of us were a little confused and it's something I've always wondered about.

I am not into jewelries like most other women so I dont know how much should a diamond ring would cost nor its carat or whatever you called it. I guess its just a matter of how much you can afford and think about future expenses after the engagement like weddings or buying a house. No one wants to be in debt while starting a new family. Just two cents.

It all depends on how much is your budget. If you can afford a 24 carat then do. But if now then settle for one that fits not just your finger but your pocket as well. As for me, I think getting a fairly priced one is okay. What matters most is not how expensive the engagement ring is but how much we both love each other. It is the love that matters most actually.
