I started smoking when I was 14. I thought it made me look cool. Ever since then I have been hooked. I have tried everything to quit smoking, and I just can't do it. I have made it 2 weeks, then I drank beer, and needed it. I know not really, but It felt like I did. Can any of you help me out with some tips and tricks to kick this habit? I need to save money and my health.

No one can save you or guide you unless you are dogged determined to quit it . You must realize how it is affecting your lungs and it may lead to cancer even . I am now seeing my uncle still suffering from stage IV lung cancer . He never listened to us and used to tell often "do all smokers suffer from cancer ? Come on don't give me any advice , it's my life and let me lead it in my own way " Sad to say he is leading it now in his own way counting days , suffering and bearing pain and tolerating side effects of chemo and radiation . I think it is high time you stop it and save your self .

Yes, I know that in order to do something you must want to. If I didn't want to I wouldn't be asking for advice from those who have gone through the same thing.

I was a 60 a day man and stopped - cold turkey! How? Well I got a filthy cold - runny nose; cough; aches; the lot. Smokes didn't taste the same and I didn't actually feel like having a smoke. So I stopped. At first it was easy then after a few hours I had to stop myself pulling out a ciggy by reflex action. I put the packet and lighter in a draw with the carton which had over 100 left in it. For a few days it was tough but I held out and about 6 months later I gave the carton in my drawer to my son. It was knowing they were there in my drawer that strangely helped as I knew if I found I couldn't live without a smoke I could easily get one. Wierd! It is many years later now and my wife and daughter still smoke ( and cough and smell) but my son has given up. Where is all the money I saved? No idea! haha Still living on the edge. Health? Well I have never had so many colds since I gave up! I was much healthier in that respect when I smoked. Maybe the nicotine poisoned the bugs? But I do have much better breathing; I don't cough all the time; I don't smell. I still like to cuddle up to my wife when she is smoking and get a bit second hand! haha

I couldn't quit if people in my house were still smoking. I would have made it a pact with my wife, then we could suffer together. I don't see much point, if you are still getting second hand smoke. Why don't they smoke outside?

You'd probably hear a lot of tips on how to kick this habit, and they all may be effective. I for one would rather do it the cold turkey way. I mean, just quit, no ifs no buts. I found that effective. There were however some sort of withdrawal symptoms but I just had to strengthen my will more to overcome them. Well, it also helped that I was motivated by fear. I was found to have emphysema and it scared me real good.

Withdrawal symptoms could really be bad especially if a person had been smoking for quite some time. Maybe you could keep yourself busy. I mean, the more time you devote on something, the less you'll light up a cig.

Cold turkey is the best way, If you can pull it off. I have tried it. The withdraw symptoms were very bad. This day, I would have to take myself away from my family to go cold turkey, and I don't want t o do that.

I have been smoking for 11 years. Yes I have tried that, and the will to smoke always wins.
