Are you one for jumping on the bandwagon? There are a lot of things that "everybody" is doing, reading, going to see, whatever. Are you a person who is curious and will go along just to see what all the hype is about?
I find it a lot in books and movies. Everybody who is anybody is going to see this movie or is reading that book or that trilogy. Recently, my curiosity got the better of me and yes, I read The Hunger Games Trilogy. It was fantastic and I now know why everyone was talking about those books. I then got the trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey just to see what all the hype was about there. Hmmm. Can't figure that one out as the story is ok IF you can get past the bad writing. After reading the first book in the series I wondered why all the hype as it is soooo badly written I don't know how it even got published. I'm glad I borrowed the book from a friend and didn't actually pay money for it.
Now I see that there is a lot of talk about the movie Magic Mike, people saying they can't wait to see it etc. I think I'll pass on that one.

Why would you pass on seeing the movie "Magic Mike". I mean really, even if the movie is a dud, there is no plot, and it is not the least bit funny you still get to see Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum half nekkid, which right there would make the movie a "must see". I mean granted, it is not like these two do not get half-nekkid in most of their movies, but hey "if you got it like that, then why not flaunt it" and there are those of us that do not mind watching at all when they do ... and we are not paying one bit of attention to the words that are coming out of their mouths anyway ... if they are even speaking at all.

Nope, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have seen previews for it, and it looks like it might be funny. I like both of those actors anyway, especially Matthew McConaughey, so I probably will see it sooner or later. However, I do not feel the need to go rushing off to the theater to see it, but I will probably rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Hello Suebee
I am not one who is known for jumping on the bandwagon. If anything, I am hesitant and suspicious of following what seems to be the latest fad.
I have been thinking about reading The Hunger Games, and now I am even more curious about it. I haven't had the same desire to read the Fifty Shades trilogy, and I am even less inclined now that you have shared how badly written it is. Thanks.
Peace

But there are those who think Fifty Shades is fantastic! Even my 85 year old mother is reading it and is into the 2nd book. That's what I mean, I just don't understand all the hype surrounding some things.
For me The Hunger Games was quite enjoyable. To each his own I guess. I have no intention of going to see the movie Magic Mike either, even though I've seen and heard a lot about it. It just doesn't seem like something I'd enjoy all that much.

Apparently Magic Mike is a new movie out now. I've been seeing on FB and hearing all kinds of people say that they can't wait to see it. In fact, my niece had posted on her FB status that she went to see Magic Mike and had no words. Hmmmmm. So I asked her about it. I think I'll pass on it.

After I posted my response, I remembered that an acquaintance had posted a bad review of Fifty Shades on facebook. This acquaintance did not like Fifty Shades at all and gave her reasons for it. Based on her opionion, I did have some curiosity about the book because I thought her reasons were rather lame. However, after some investigation into the book, I just don't see the attraction.
I have never even heard of Magic Mike.

No, I just go to see or read something that I think I will be interested in. I don't just do whatever people do automatically. I have never been that kind of person.

I'm always looking for a good book to read so do listen to what others are reading and look for recommendations. However, I don't just jump on the bandwagon so to speak. I find that a few of my friends enjoy the same type of books that I do though and quite often will ask them what they're reading. However, I don't just run out and get whatever they're reading.

I don't usually jump on the book bandwagon, or movies for that matter. I haven't read Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games or Fifty Shades of Grey (though I know many who have and just couldn't stop at the one book). I will, however, make every effort to go see Magic Mike. I am not one for going to the movies because the big screen and loud sound bothers me but if there is a movie I really want to see I will make an effort. I think the last couple of movies I saw in a theatre was Hairspray, Mamma Mia and Wild Hogs. As you can see, it's been a long time since I've seen a movie in a theatre but you can also see who was in these movies and what they were about - musicals, comedy, certain actors.
As for books, I have enough at home to read without having to go out and buy or borrow another just to see what all the type is about. Also, books take longer to read than watching a movie. There is more of a commitment involved, especially when there are several volumes to read as is in the case in all the above mentioned books.
I like Sue Grafton's Alphabet series of mysteries. But I have to admit, I am bothered to have skipped a couple of letters and also I am well behind where she is at release-wise. She may even have finished the alphabet whereas I am only up to "S". But you don't have to read these books in order like those series stories. Also, I am not into those fantasy/paranormal stories. I am a tad curious about Fifty Shades of Grey, but could possibly wait until the movie.

I haven't read Harry Potter or Twilight either. When it comes to jumping on the bandwagon I tend to read the reviews first and then decide whether or not I want to make the jump. However, having said that, I admit that EVERY single review I read about the Fifty Shades trilogy was bad but I read the first book anyway. I decided to read it mostly because all the girls at work were talking about how good it is. I have the 2nd and 3rd ones to read but I'm not that into the trilogy. It's more like a "yeah, I'll read them when I get around to it" type of attitude rather than an "I can't put it down" one.

For the most part I do the same. However, there are some books, movies or whatever that just get so much attention and are talked about so much that I find I have to see for myself what all the fuss is about.
I have to say that I actually enjoyed The Hunger Games very much and can understand why everyone was talking about the books. I can't see it with Fifty Shades of Grey and I never did read the Twilight series, nor do I plan to.

Nope, that's why many leave me to be. I don't follow in suit and I do my own thing. If I want to see it or whatnot I will if not I don't see in wasting my money. I know many who really can't make their own decisions they have to follow everyone else even going to the movies or for dinner. I saw a few commercials on tv for movies coming out that look interesting and something I would enjoy.

Not for me either! Why someonw get into those things is beyond me!

I pay attention, but I don't choose every thing every one else is choosing JUST cause everyone is doing it. If it sounds like what I might like, I listen to the advice and go see about it. If it doesn't sound interesting to me, no. I do tend to listen to my kids and grandkids more than friends cause they know what I like best.

That's what I tend to do as well. I read the reviews and look into it first. For example, even though so many people have told me how fantastic the Twilight trilogy is I have absolutely no desire to read it. I like to hear about what others are reading, seeing at the movies etc but I don't necessarily do the same just because everyone else is.

Hi Suebee,
I'm a square peg who will occasionally try to fit into the round hole. My way of saying that I'm independent and I rarely flow with what other people are doing.
When I try to do what other people are doing I often feel disappointed and wonder why I wasted my time.
It seems like I did a little bit of research when the book FIFTY SHADES OF GREY was on the news but I wasn't impressed. I believe I read the reviews posted on Amazon.com and chose to pass.

Well, you certainly didn't miss out on much by passing on it, that's for sure.
I fall somewhere in the middle. I'll jump on the bandwagon so to speak but only after finding out more about the book, movie or whatever and then read it or see it only if I think I'll like it. In the case of Fifty Shades it was because a friend offered to lend it to me and curiosity to see what all the fuss was about. In the case of The Hunger Games it was because, after reading reviews etc I thought I might like it.
