Why is it when I tell someone I am an atheist I get looked at like I am the devil? Is it because people do not understand completly the meaning? I remember telling my boyfriends mother 3 years ago, she is a very stong believer in the christian faith. She was very nice to me before I meantioned I was an atheist, and now I am that evil girlfriend...

I checked what it really means I came up with this: Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities. I'm a Christian and if you have told me that you were an Atheist with this explanation in my mind I won't mind you being one as long as you are not a bad person. We have our own beliefs and yours is your own. I respect that.

I respect everyones beliefs. Like you said as long as you are not a bad person. There are bad people in every race and religion, but that wouldn't be me...

Believe your beliefs, and doubt your doubts! People don't try to understand your belief, they just try to change it to their own. For this reason I keep my beliefs to myself, unless someone specifically asks. Usually if they are genuinely interested they will try to understand. Christians believe they will get brownie points in Heaven if they are able to convert a non-believer. But don't you believe it!

Not all Christians believe in that converting will give us some credits to heaven. It is just one way of inviting other people to have similar belief as we do. I guess being treated that way is just a real fact that norms in a particular place are violated or are not in the normal constraints. Most people will see an atheist as a devil because of the stereotyping that "if you do not believe in GOD, you must be believing the devil". Anyways, I think it will be just fine as long as you do the things that you believe to be true. As long as you are not stepping unto others in order to achieve your goals.

Before I have different opinion to an Atheist as well but I was teenager during that time. I really thought that when a person is Atheist then they are likely bad people but then I was totally wrong. I realized that they just really don't believe that God exist. Someone even told me that he is an Atheist but then doing good things to other people and being hardworking would be the responsibility of people so that they will earn good in return as well. I feel bad for those people who are religious but then very judgmental. They didn't even value the advise of Jesus that we are not suppose to judge other people. I have seen one of the message in facebook that God would rather tolerate the Atheist rather than the hateful Christians. Honestly in my case I am totally disappointed with some religious people who are not really valuing the word of God but they are using the name of God in vain which is against the ten commandments. Some of them are using it for their reputation. Sometimes I find them hypocrite.

I for one am not sure what atheist believe? I could look it up but it might be less time consuming if you tell me, Lol. But I do not judge anyone, that is not my place. I am no better than anyone else. My faith is my belief and everyone is entitled to their own in my opinion. Just like anything else. I don't know what other people's problems are but I feel like to each their own. I have a friend matter of fact that is totally against God and has a totally different opinion when it comes to politics than I do. We get along so well, we have been friends for over 10 years. How? We don't get on those subjects, there is no reason to bring it up over and over again in my opinion. We each have a right to our own feelings and we leave it at that and talk about many other things...

Atheism is not a religion or a group to follow , why did you mentioned it to her?? you shouldnt . And if you are around saying that you are atheism , what for??? you just have to respect other people s beliefs, and just believe whatever you want, is like some people who are christians and they say it all the time , what for? sometimes the acts say something else. Is better when someone can see what we are by our acts. Have a good day my friend. I hope you understand my meaning.

Because these people are so wrapped up in their faith that anyone who doesn't believe what they know to be true, they are evil. When if they would actually pay attention to what they claim to be all about, they would know it is about loving everyone no matter their faith. Hypocrites, they really piss me off.

Like they always say Religion, sports and politics are tough subjects to talk about. Many people have their beliefs on each of these and usually they end up in heated debates with other people about the subjects. I believe that people can believe in whatever they want and we should accept that in life. everyone is different. We shouldn't try to push our beliefs on others. A lighter topic to use as an example is I hate blueberries. Just because you like blueberries doesn't mean that you should force me into liking blueberries also. I would just say I don't like them and you would understand. But add politics, religion or sports and people get all crazy stating their view on what they think you should believe in or who you should vote for and so on.

I am not sure why some people will act this way. Perhaps because if for example your boyfriend's mom... she might think it is a personal thing against the God she believes in. Its hard to explain what I mean. Its kind of like you don't believe in her best friend. Who knows though, it could be any thing. Sorry they've treated your poorly though.
