I finally broke down and got Netflix

I haven't previously gotten Netflix because I have a cable/internet/phone package that includes what they call "On-Demand." Anytime you were ready to do so, you could watch movies that were showing on the stations you subscribed to. I know that Netflix is not that expensive, but I thought it would be a waste to have both on demand and netflix. I never really got to watch much TV anyway. WELL..I went ahead and subscribed at the beginning of my two week vacation and have been up until 3am almost every night watching stuff..lol. I wondered what I was thinking not getting it before.
So how long have you been a member of Netflix? Do you like it now as much as you did when you first subscribed? Does it keep you up late at night?

No Netflix for me but guilty as charged!~ Haha!~Have upgraded to a faster speed earlier this year but haven't really utilized the facility until just very recently - I've been on a movie downloading spree, sometimes up to 4 an hour compared to last time which is like only 1 movie download in a day or even a couple of days? Haha!~

Yup, the extra speed is superb but it's overcharged at our place here anyway, haha!~ It's a good thing in a way I have limited hard disk space so most of the movies I just have to delete them off & also have a cap on downloading, haha!~Even so I think I've at least burnt about more than 50 movies on DVD to keep already

I have had a subscription to Netflix for several years now. I enjoy it alot. There are so many options with it. And thousands of movies to chose from. I like that it has vintage movies as well as contemporary. Netflix doesn't necessarily keep me up late but it gives me something to do when I am up late.

Heyya celticeagle! You have to know that you are the one that put that bug in my head to go ahead and get it. When I responded to one of your discussions about a movie on Netflix, I told you I was too tight to get it.
I am glad I did because you were right. There are a ton of things on there to watch.

That's exactly why I don't have it. I even got rid of my television and do have free cable. I love movies and don't know when to quit. That's why I avoid having a television. I have very little self-control when it comes to watching movies. Jesus once said that if something makes us stumble to cut it off. I better be careful!

I think I might have the same package plan as you. I also have on-demand and I've always thought it was a good feature. But it doesn't have very many movies or tv shows, just whatever is currently playing on the tv channels. I haven't gotten Netflix just yet though. If I want to watch something I usually just go online to a site that has everything I need. But it's a pain to have to watch everything on my laptop and it would be nice to be able to get it on my tv. I know my xbox can also stream Netflix as well. I just might have to break down and get a subscription lol

That's what I use to watch it. My Xbox. I really like it. I held out forever on getting, just not wanting to pay anything extra when I had the on-demand. I am glad I did though. If I can't find something to watch on one, I can look on the other. I am usually too busy to catch programs or movies based on a time. I have to take advantage of free moments..lol.
Thanks for responding and let us know what you think of it if you get it. Oh..you get a month free to check it out.

I don't like starting in the middle either. There are several sitcoms and such on there to choose from. They create a top ten for you as well based on what kind of stuff you watch. There are also some pretty good documentaries if you like those. It's not even $10 a month. I was just being stubborn about having on-demand already

I've heard that the monthly fee really isn't too bad. Maybe I'll do the month trial thing to see how I like it. Right now I have a website I use and it has a bunch of tv shows and movies..this summer I wanted to watch a bunch of tv shows that I've always wanted to watch. I wanted to watch all the seasons, I don't like starting in the middle of a show. My computer works for now but it's annoying to always watch my laptop. I think I'll be getting Netflix soon lol

Hello JenInTN
Mrs. Turner and I subscribed to Huluplus about a month and a half ago. We weren't all that impressed with it as it seemed to stop to reload a good bit. Still, we persevered because we were hooked to watching all of the Monk episodes, from start to finish.
However, at the beginning of last week, we subscribed to Netflix just to give it a try. After one day we got rid of Huluplus and we very much enjoy Netflix. We stay up late watching old television shows from our youth.
Peace

Yes, we had also gotten used to not watching television and we have been surprised by how much we enjoy these old shows.
We will be on the road for the next two weeks and subjected to real television in hotels, etc., and we are dreading it as we'll miss our Netflix shows.

Right now, we are not a member of Netflix, and because we have OnDemand etc. we have never really even thought about having this one as well. We did know someone who did have it, but we find Red Box usually to be a lot better when it comes to wanting some of the Newer movies out there for sure, and cheaper. So in reality, I guess it has always been what ever works best for you.

Hi Meemee,
1) It's an extra expense I cannot justify.
2) There's more than enough on TV for my needs.
3) If I sit and watch a movie, I fall asleep...every time. I watch TV (sort of) while I'm at the computer. I'll stick with my current routine thanks.
There are many movies I would like to see though.

I am a member of Netflix, but my account is currently on hold due to my finances (paying for tuition and not working). I absolutely love Netflix, I think it is a great way to watch your entertainment. But due to their LARGE price increases in the near past, I have become less and less enthralled with them. I may still be able to use them every other month if it wasn't for the price increases. A 60% increase is A LOT when you have to watch what you buy.

They actually had two price increases since I became a member with them. The first one was more of an annoyance because it wasn't that big. But the second one was a 60% price increase and that is a lot! Ovr double what you were originally paying....not a happy time for any Netflix members. So at first I ended up changing my plan to save money.
I ended up going from getting 1 dvd at a time (unlimited dvds a month) with unlimited online streaming to having just the unlimited online streaming. But now I've just put my whole account on hold.
I think the increase was a bad business decision on Netflix's part because they lost a lot of members, and a lot of the members they didn't lost did what I did and went to a cheaper plan. So overall they lost a lot of money (and gave business to rivals like RedBox and Blockbuster).

I watched Netflix at a friend's house the other night. She was showing me all the options available and the different selections on there. It is pretty amazing how many things are on there. I have the same thing as you, the cable/internet/phone package and am contemplating getting Netflix after seeing what was available on there.
Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

We have Netflix. We resubscribed a couple of months ago after having been away from the service for a while, because we wanted more movie offerings than the cable television service we have here provides.
While Netflix does have things that we like, we have found that the service's offerings are somewhat limited. Movies and television series that seem to be logical choices to have available for streaming simply are not available on Netflix.

They are quite limited on the new new stuff, but they do have a pretty good collection. I read that they are having trouble out of their providers wanting more money for their services. I have also heard that they might be getting a little competition from Amazon which would be quite a challenge.
Thanks for responding!

I too have on-demand service, but my son has been bugging me for Netflix for a while now.
I keep saying NO.
We did have it for free for a couple of months when we got our Xbox 360 Kinect as a promo, but after the the promo was up I discontinued it.
Maybe if he continues to bug me, I might give in.

They have a neat separation thing going on right now. There are two options on there to choose from when you log on. There is an "all kids" and then the regular netflix minus the kids shows.
I haven't had the chance to watch it as much as before but I still enjoy it.

Hello Jenin, How are you and your family? I was not in Mylot for long time and my inittial account has been closed. Seeing your face, I could recognize you. However, I have no idea about Netflix. What is that?

I've been great..thanks! It's nice to see again!
Netflix is a company that offers its member unlimited movie viewing for a very low price per month. These movies can be accessed from a computer, certain video game consoles or even sent in dvd form in the mail. There are television series and documentaries on there as choices too.

I love netflix because I can take my time watching all of the TV series shows that I have always wanted to watch. I watched 16 episodes straight of Lost once and was so tired but couldn't stop watching it. Netflix is cheap and very addicting and if there is ever a problem with one of the shows that you watch they are really good about crediting you a small amount for the inconvienance

I have been a member for over two years; I used to get the DVDs in the mail only but have gradually shifted to the streaming online only option. I have never had a problem with them; in fact, it's been the opposite. I love having Netflix. I combined with with a Hulu Plus account so that I could get the more current show that are not available on Netflix, but it has been a revelation. With those two, I pay $16 a month total for streaming TV and movies, and they both have great libraries which keep me constantly watching. Better than even $30 a month for DISH or DirecTV.
I still enjoy it; I have to admit I don't watch it as much as I like but it still comes in very handy and I love finding shows and movies to watch. Every now and again I will find an old movie or show that I want to watch there, too. (Currently watching 21 Jump Street and Saved by the Bell). And yes, it does keep us both up late sometimes.

I have wondered about that Hulu. I saw it on my Xbox as an option but I haven't researched it yet. If I got that too I may just rid myself of cable altogether. That might not make my children or my man very happy though..lol..they wouldn't have TV in their rooms then.
Thanks for responding!

My daughter decided Netflix would provide us with a lot of entertainment and she is right. Its easy to stay up all night watching various movies and television shows. I'll admit the price jump made me think twice about the cost, but when you consider how much you can spend going out to see a movie you know the price is affordable.

There was someone else that mentioned a price increase too. Maybe I got on afterwards and just don't know the difference. How much did they increase it? I actually had a case study on Netflix and they are going through quite the wringer right now. I was wondering what they would do.
Thanks for the response.

I have belonged for years, but have just the mail subscription. I keep saying I am going to change it for a few more $$ but haven't yet. As it is, I keep the same movie for months, so I really don't get my money from it. I just shipped one back today that I must have had for at least 6 months! I should go there right now and change what I am getting while I am thinking about it. Have fun with it!!

I used the DVD option a long time ago when I tried it. It was the two disk option with unlimited computer viewing. I actually got it because I was paying so much for my cable package and I was just going to drop the cable altogether. When I called to drop the cable, they offered me a better deal plus I was having trouble with movies on my laptop. I didn't have the streaming equipment at the time so I just stayed with the cable and the new deal they gave me.
Thanks for the input. You will really like the unlimited movies.

They offer a month free. I went ahead and tried it for a month and liked it enough that time to keep it. I had it once before but didn't have the option to stream it to my TV. I am not a fan of watching movies on the laptop and I was having issues with it loading. That was a long time ago though. It works great for me now.
Take care.

For me here its cheaper and less hassle to either just go see a movie or buy / rent them when their released. In the UK we didn't have 'netflix' but we had alternatives such as lovefilm but as I said less hassle watching them on dvd and so on. Maybe I'm just weird that way who knows

I kinda felt that way too. I also felt like I was paying for cable and I just didn't want the extra expense. I did break down and really enjoy it. I am on vacation though. I may not feel like that when I start back to work and don't have as much time to watch it.
Thanks for responding!
