Is China can be considered bully of Asia on the issue of Spratley islands and Scarhoaorough shoal? Latest news revealed that China is sending four patrol ships and an oil rig to this area.

We can consider China as a bully of Asia since it is big and it seems like it wants so many territories. But we should not discriminate China. We should actually look why they are becoming a bully. So, in China's perspective, they are not the bully. They have been bullied by many great powers in the world for so many years. They worked hard so that they can become the next world power. One of China's accomplishments was sending their spaceship to space. But only a few congratulated their achievement. The Philippines did not even congratulate them. China just wants to gain respect from other countries. If you look at the territorial map, most of the oceans and seas are a part of the Vietnam territory. So actually, Vietnam dominates in the sea and not China. Vietnam is also claim the shoal. But no one ever thought that Vietnam was a bully. Before calling a country a bully, we must first understand why they are doing that and reacting that way.

China has been bullying their neighbors already long long time ago. That's why they become a big nation due to its expansionist mentally. And proof to that is their claim on the group of islands in the Spratly. If we look at the map on the west Philippine sea or South China sea, the Philippines and Vietnam have more more right or authority to claim these territory because of their proximity to these disputed islands. Another proof of Chinese aggression is what they did to Tibet and Taiwan although they claim that Taiwan is part of China, if you ask the Chinese.
Chinese claim of the Scarborough shoal is unacceptable to many Filipinos because it is within the 200 mile of the Philippine economic zone contrary to China that is more or less 1000 miles away (if I'm not mistaken) from them and most of all, the Chinese must pass through first Vietnam sea territory before reaching this shoal. Can't you see how arrogant the Chinese is? I do believe China wanted to expand their territories for military and economic purposes. I am one of the many Filipinos do not want to allow China to get this part of Philippines no matter what it takes,

China is flexing its muscles. It knows that amongst all Asian countries, it is by far superior in terms of military strength. And I think it also knows that first world countries like the US would be hesitant to interfere since it could affect these countries' economic relations with China. I feel that these two circumstances fall under the definition of a bully. I hope I'm wrong with this since it would really be very difficult to win a military confrontation with China. But if China is really bullying all the claimants of the Spratley Islands, including us, I feel that we shouldn't back down. For me, standing up to a bully is the only way to address this kind of a problem.

Yes, I do agree with you bearmer88. But I doubt if US will hesitate to confront China if this issue escalate into a war. I think (this is only my personal opinion) US wanted to engage China in a war but is just waiting for the right time and the right alibi to do so. They know (the US) that China is a threat to them so they must find a way to stop the ever increasing strength of Chinese military. The sooner the better...

If ever we leave the Islands, it would mean we are afraid. We should maintain military presence in the area so that we would not be pushed off. China is just bullying us and if we back down it means we fall into their dirty antics. I think China would not risk a war with its neighbors and the USA

Yes, you are right. Leaving these territories means we are afraid of China. We should not leave these islands because history shows that every time our military relaxes in guarding some of our claimed islands, somebody sneaked in right away and planted or installed their flags there. And there they are... claiming that those islands belonged to them and China did these so many times already.
