Is it a good idea to use my mail email to sign up for Twitter, Facebook and such

So I recently thought about signing up for Twitter, Facebook and a few other social networking sites - just to promote my articles and stuff like that. I don't want my mail email id to receive a boat load of notifications. Is it a good idea to sign up using my mail email, or should I create/use some other one?
