for me i want to read with the eyes.i dont want to read it allowed because i cant concentrate if im reading alowed. but they say its good to read allowed because it will enhance your pronounciation and someone can correct you if you read it allowed. but for me its quite embarrassing. so i prefer to read by eyes to concentrate and absorb what im reading.

I normally read my book with my eye and brain. But if i want to annoy someone sitting next to me, i will read my book aloud to distract his/her focus on whatever thing he is doing. Reading with my eye enable me to finish my book faster than reading it aloud is an added advantage i never want to let go.

As you know, the only organ in my possession that can read any fine prints is my eyes, so i have no choice except depend on them for my reading. I wish i can have few more organs that can sense those fine prints in a book so that i use them along with my eyes instead of use my eyes all the time i decided to read.

I prefer to read it in my head. I also like other people around me to be quiet or find a quiet corner to sit and read in, especially if im read non fiction because I like to absorb it more then and concentrate. Plus if its a fictional book I can change the voices in my head for the different characters.

Both methods of reading a book have its separate and collective benefits, and the decision to use any of, or both methods of reading will depend on the circumstances. I say cultivating the habit of reading is great, and I endorse that practice wholeheartedly.

I read with my eyes most of the time but when some words are new to I read it loud to so that I can pronounce it properly. When I was in grade schools i always read very loud so that my ears can hear my pronounciation and I can correct like qickly if I made a mistake but when I got older I only read through my eyes in a quite place so have a peace of mind and allow my imagination to travel while reading.

yes i agree with you. usually when we are young teachers would want us to read it aloud so that they can correct us. but as we grow older we tend to change since we are now capable of critical thinking. we can understand what we are reading just by mere reading it with eyes and not aloud.thanks for the response.

either one of those is reading with your eyes. I like to read to myself, as I find no reason to read aloud, unless I am reading to someone.

As I child I was always reading my books out aloud, they became so much more exciting and I think this comes from when we were all young our mothers or fathers or indeed both parents would read to us. It's a way of being close and rekindling memories of when we were young or if we had loving parents. When our parents read to us the book came alive and so did the characters. At play school our teachers would put on different voices for all the different characters. Even when I became a teacher for a short while I would put on different voices and would love reading out aloud the book to the children. Sadly I don't have much time for reading, I find it hard to concentrate, I need complete silent to be able to read a book and the internet is too much of a distraction! But when I do read on holiday then I will read with the eyes.

i agree, the quiteness is an essential thing when reading. it would enable us to imagine what we are reading and it would allow us to internaize what we are reading.

I'm fine with the idea of reading aloud a bedtime story to a child,or reading to others, but the idea of reading aloud to myself does seem strange... Although I recall reading (to myself!) somewhere that reading aloud can assist in learning a subject when studying..it can help in reinforcing the assimilation of the subject, along with taking notes and other learning techniques..Perhaps it can help with Language studies..

I too like to read with my eyes when I'm reading a book. If I'm reading something that I'm trying to improve or apply in my life I've heard that it is best to read it aloud. That this helps get the point across and you are better able to understand what you are reading.

I prefer to read just for me, I mean, I can listen me in my mind, reading the book and imagining the story at the same time... You might be right about reading loud that everybody can listen it, but I simply prefer my way to read...

I prefer to read with my eyes too. I feel that I can read faster cause my eyes can glance faster than I can speak. I also feel weird when I read out loud cause I feel people are looking or staring or even listening to me somewhere. It's kinda a creepy feeling. I also thonknincan concentrate and focus. When I read my book aloud, I would feel that my voice will pull me back to reality. However, when I'm just resting with my eyes, I feel like I'm actually in the world of the book...

I always do prefer reading it silently.... I hate to read it with noise but i love to read something while listening music...Strange right?BUT THAT'S HOW I CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND THINGS.

if the reading is not studing that i prefer reading it with eyes. That way i can enjoy the story unlike studying where i have to read aloud to memorise stuff.

I used to read books silently to concentrate or understand it more and to avoid disturbing other people around me.It is better to read it silently that reading it loud.It may cause annoyance to others if we read the books loud.

i do like reading it by eyes. in that way i won't be disturbing others and my mouth won't dry out too. but sometimes i have to read it a loud because i find it hard to understand what i'm reading to and by reading it a loud helps me digest what i'm reading..it really sound weird right?

I can't read out aloud it's too distracting. I always read in my head. If I read out aloud then I don't even remember what I have even read and have to re read it again. Probably because I'm not used to it :)

When I'm alone in my room, I want to read aloud because I want to improve my speaking skills. I want to be more confident hearing myself speaking the language. The place where I come from, doesn't have English as its first language. So reading aloud is one way for me to utilize the language. But sometimes I got bored so I read with my eyes instead. When I'm studying my textbooks, when I get bored I read it aloud, like a teacher. But not all the time because if people overhear me they will think I'm an idiot.

It depends if you are a visual learner or a auditory learner. I prefer reading to yourself with your eyes because I think reading out loud may slow you down, because of the pronunciation part.
