So I have the inexplicable want to have the crap scared out of me by a game but I can't quite figure out what to play. Do any of my fellow mylotters know any genuinely scary games?

Have you tried SCP - containment breach? It's a relatively old game that was remade and since a couple of months ago, became viral. It's free to download and a family small file in itself, so it shouldn't be much a problem to get. Hope this helps.

Have you tried Day Z yet then? I don't really think it's much of a scary thing, but it's a really great mod to try out. Hope this helps. :-)

I don't mean to keep shooting down suggestions but I've already played that one and the several smaller releases that have spawned from it. It's a great game and I still come back to it every now and then because the game is amazing. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I also forgot to mention the Prenumbra series, but you may have played that series as well. XD

Ib or Eversion? Both are somewhat creepy, though not really "scary". Apart from that, I have no suggestions that you haven't already tried. By the way, how far do you need to get into Amnesia before it becomes scary? I've played it a bit, but I'm too angry at the main character to feel scared, despite playing in the dark. (The castle is full of candles that don't look like they're nailed to the wall/table. Even if they are, they're bloody still just wax and can be broken. Why can't he freaking pick them up instead of panicking at the dark?)

Info and download link for Ib, if you're curious. It's freeware. http://vgboy.dabomstew.com/other/ib.htm http://www.mediafire.com/?g32xzro2hzua5o3 Eversion is on Steam. I think there was a non-Steam version out there. And by "out there", I mean "linked below". http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html I *think* that's their official site, but I'm not 100% sure. Download at your own risk.

I've heard of Ib, never played it, but I've never heard of Eversion. I'll be sure to try them out and get back to you. I was actually pretty scared most of the way through, though I'm not quite sure exactly when it started being scary for me. I get what you mean about the candles though, it just never crossed my mind since for most of the game you have a lantern with you, just not necessarily always full.

If you play it at night, the F.E.A.R franchise will provide some scares/thrills. I use to play F.E.A.R and F.E.A.R Files for about 30 minutes each night on extreme difficulty- and the games were fantastic. But,only at night- if you play F.E.A.R during the day its not as fun to play.

Another great horror game I've played. The original F.E.A.R. games terrified me, I could barely get through the game because I usually did late night gaming sessions of it and I was just too scared of it. Some of the scares were only jump scares but then they kept the atmosphere consistent to make you scared if it was going to happen again. The first game was truly ingenious. F.E.A.R. 2 somewhat dumbed down the scares but still stayed pretty true to the original game. The third almost completely dropped the scariness but bits and pieces were scattered about, the inclusion of co-op didn't quite help. The series is truly great but the scariness really watered down as time went on. I'll still love the first game.

I've heard about this Slender Man game. I haven't really played it nor do I know anybody who has played it. However, the videos on YouTube make it seem quite scary. It's also a really short game, all you need to do is collect 8 pages and you're done. Not the best game ever. But this was the first thing that popped in my mind when saying "scary movies".

If you are looking for a real deal of scare or a real jump scare, I recommend you playing Amnesia : Dark descent and Slender Amnesia is a game about a guy who's trapped in a castle forgetting how he got himself in there,to survive you need to make you way out of the castle. There will *surprising* no jaw monsters that you'll encounter and you have no weapons to fight them. Slender is the most simple yet so scary game. You play as a little girl, Your objective is to escape from the woods alive collecting the 8 pages around the woods. The page/paper will give you clues about Slender man.I watch a lot of lets play about Slender. And still it does not fail to give me jumpscares :D

The sad part being is that the games that are being suggested just happen to be all of the ones I've played already. Both games are amazing, Slender could use some work but it is a fan-made game after all so it's excusable. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I know this online game that is pretty scary. But this is an old game. It is a game made by Doritos! Do you know hotel 626? i think you might know it since it is a pretty old game. there are also games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil on either PC or Playstation. have a nice time playing. Don't forget to turn off the lights while playing LOL

I love that game so much, it was so unexpected that Doritos would've released such a scary game. I love interactivity they include in the game and I love that they continued with Asylum 626, both great games. The original Silent Hill and Resident Evil are great and awesome but I'm a bit picky with graphics and their models are just too low quality, great for the time but it hasn't aged well. And I always turn off the lights for scary games, it's just not the same with lights on.

Hello there, I will recommend you silent hill. It is the scariest game that I have ever played until now. But I am not so sure that the game will be available on all platforms. You will need to check it out first since I don't know what console do you have. You can also try resident evil, but it is not that scary.

I've tried the first Silent Hill and some of the following ones but they've become sort of lackluster to me. I can see where the scariness would come in and the lore of the games fascinate me but I just don't get the amount of scare and enjoyment I should from the games. I love the Resident Evil games but the latest ones (4 and on) have lost the scare touch quite a considerable margin. I should also point out that I have: Xbox 360, PS3, access to a Wii, and a pretty darn good PC.
