first, nash and now jason kidd is signing with the new york knicks...

and i'm unsure about how i feel about this one. jason kidd has won his title with the mavs. i would have preferred for kidd to sign again with the brooklyn nets and share point guard duties with deron williams. with new york, he gets to quarterback the team made up of amare stoudemaire, carmelo anthony, and perhaps take into his wings jeremy lin. i've read that the knicks will be matching any offer made to jeremy lin, well lin was offered a multiyear contract by the rockets. so i guess, new york has their work cut out for them. its a win win situation for the knicks, if lin decides to jumpship, they have kidd to backcourt for them. if lin decides to stay, kidd gets to be lin's mentor. on a side note, the mavs are clearly not doing much this off season. first they lose jason terry to boston and now jason kidd to the knicks. i think mark cuban will be selling the mavs franchise soon. lol!
anyway, i think kidd signing up for the knicks is a definite upgrade to what the knicks have in point guard. not sure if its enough to make the knicks contenders in the east though.
fellow mylotters, what's your take on jason kidd signing up for the new york knicks? how do you think this affects the knicks chances in the eastern conference?

They really need someone to be the leader and a veteran. Jason Kidd is perfect because he is a veteran point guard. If he can adjust quickly and get Chandler, Amare, Melo on the same page, they will be a contender in the east. They can even challenge the miami heat. This is a legitimate big 4, Melo Amare Tyson and Kidd. Maybe they can experiment and play Lin and Kidd together as a two point guard lineup. That will be Melo, Amare, Tyson, Kidd , Lin, sounds good?

lin signed up with the rockets so we won't see him in a knicks uniform this season unless the knicks and rockets go into a sign and trade agreement. i'm actually happy about the inclusion of tyson chandler in the knicks roster. him and camby can do a lot of damage to other teams in both ends of the court. my ny knick team in the floor would be camby, chandler, amare, melo, and kidd. jr smith and felton coming off the bench to sub for melo/amare and kidd respectively works out well. this is another team with players that can play multiple positions.

knicks not really known for their defense but i think they improve this season. a defense anchored on camby and chandler can be quite reliable. not so sure if this translates into a deep play-off push but it might just happen.

Yeah. That's a nice lineup. They have two defensive players in Camby and Chandler. They have two offensive players in Stoudamire and Anthony. And a veteran point guard in Jason Kidd. I hope they go deep into the playoffs next year.

I don't think Kidd is enough to jumpstart the Knicks to get past Boston and Miami. Melo will not see a championship anytime soon.

hi tremendous machine.
kidd being included in the knicks roster is indeed an upgrade and i agree it won't be enough for a championship run. perhaps the knicks can go past the first round of the play-offs and deep into the second round. kidd just makes the knicks more competitive as he can give the ball to melo and amare where they are the most effective. defensively, he is some sort of a liability especially against stronger and faster scoring point guards but the knicks don't play defense at all so they won't feel the blow as much. lol!

I have to agree with you in terms of being an upgrade for the New York Knicks; you get a point guard that will be more of a facilitator on the floor and set up Stoudemire and Anthony while at the same time not giving up as many turnovers in the offense. You don't gain anything defensively since at his age Kidd might be a bit of a defensive liability, but that can be worked around given the right defensive system and a good two guard to help with any elite PGs (like Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo in the Eastern Conference).
I think it would be best for Jeremy Lin to go to the Rockets; he will be able to dominate the ball more and let his creativity work for him. With the Knicks he loses touches because Carmelo is a ball-stopper and you almost have to force the ball to Stoudemire early to make sure he remains focused on the game.
However I do not think this makes them an instant contender for the Eastern Conference. On paper Miami and Boston are still better. At best they are third after those two teams. At worst, they might still be below the 76ers and the Pacers in the conference, closer to the bottom of the playoff seeding than the top.

good points you have here. we agree that kidd can throw those pinpoint passes to both amare and melo and make scoring easier for those two. defensively, kidd does give a lot especially to scoring point guards like rose and rondo. defense is not the knicks forte so i'm unsure if they have anything up their sleeve to help out kidd. lol!
lin moving to the rockets is simply a marketing strategy for houston in my opinion. they have a good hold of the asian/chinese market with their previous affiliation with yao ming. the rockets getting jeremy lin is a continuation of that one. with all the moves (or lack of moves) that the rockets are doing in thsi off-season, i think they will go on full tank mode this season.
back to kidd and the knicks, i think at best they can be the top third team behind the heat and the bulls as they can easily move past boston. i don't see the 76ers or the pacers to be better than the knicks at this time. that's just me though.
