I just watched this film and didn't get why it wasn't a hit in Hollywood. It was rather enjoyable.. I was glued to the screen. I loved the actors and the dog.. so adorable.. it's nice to see another planet too.. Mars. I was just not satisfied with the ending, i just imagine that it was happy.

I also really enjoyed the movie too, and I wish it had splashed bigger. It's based on a series of Sci-Fi books so old, they're in the public domain. They probably even set a number of the standards in the genre.
It was a happy ending, kind of! I wish there could have been more to it or a second film. I also really loved the dog! He was my favorite part of the movie I think, so cute!

That's a long time to be stuck in development hell. Hadn't heard that.

I had a completely different reaction to the movie. I thought it was a huge let down, a flop even. The story is one thats been done in some way a million times before, the actors/actresses although decent to me didn't really seem to connect / fit together with any real on screen chemistry so for me its not a movie I'll be watching again anytime soon.
Just my opinion

Hello :). I like it too, but then again I'm easy to please so I like most movies that I watch , except dramas (oh how much I hate dramas :p). But a lot of people go to see movies to criticize them, like those people who see themselves as food critics after they say everything is bad, or those who believe they are cool after going to a party and saying it sucked no matter what to make others think they have been to better parties. The movie ratings are also plagued by people who say "the book was better" (well books in this case :D) even if they haven't read it just to appear as intellectuals :p. But I agree with you, it was a good movie and I enjoyed it a lot :D.

I didn't like the movie at all, got bored watching John Carter. It's taken from 11-volume Barsoom series of novels written by Edgar Rice Burroughs during 1912–43, but by seeing the movie it felt mixtures of different movie.
I felt I shouldn't have wasted my time watching this movie ...
