I really wonder how some people love the hard rock music. When I listen to it, I can hardly hear words and it sounds like shouting and a bit weird. Perhaps, I just don't understand the essence of hard rock music. It sounds like a horror to me. I don't know that's my opinion. I like alternative music but hard rock I can't appreciate it since I can't understand what it tells you.
When I am mad or a kind of lonely, I try to listen to it and just hear sounds rumbling. I don't know.
Do you like hard rock music??

Well,so far I've only read opinions from people who don't like hard rock,so it's time for me to say that hard rock and heavy metal is the type of music I love the most and nothing can change my taste for this often underrated and misunderstood type of music. The fact is that hard rock is much more than simply 'noise',as some people categorize it;for me it is music played with energy, passion and a great deal of skill ,and it's also extremely diverse, because it is divided in many sub genres, each one with a certain sound,so people who dislike hard rock and metal should be more specific, because bands like Van Halen and Megadeth, for example, sound extremely different from each other.I also have to say that in many cases the lyrics are much deeper and more profound compared to mainstream music and especially to pop.Heavy metal also gave the world some of the best vocalists in modern music, such as Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, and if you try to listen to progressive, symphonic or power metal bands like Dream Theater,Symphony X,Blind Guardian,Stratovarius,Nightwish,Sonata Arctica,Therion or Lake of Tears,to give you just a few examples of the bands I love, you will probably understand that hard rock and metal,or at least part of it,is much deeper than some people think. But anyway, from my point of view it's everyone's right to listen to whatever they want,I don't criticize others for listening to some really superficial and easy-to-digest types of music,it's their problem, but if anyone has something against rock and metal,I have to defend it and make people that what may sound for some people like senseless noise may be great music for others.

Good explanation. Well we all have opinions. And now I understand why some people like you like hard rock music.
I know there are good messages in it but I just dont' understand the lyrics. Perhaps I should listen to it very carefully next time. :)

Well, at first I didn't like hard rock and metal because of the same reasons you states. But as I was growing older, I became curious. When I started listening, of course it sounded cacophonic, but when I finally put my guard down and started absorbing, slowly and gradually I began to understand because I started to actually listening beyond the volume and into the meaning. After that, I became a fan, and I still am.

That is what I love about Hard Rock music, it isn't clear. It is all emotion and little nuance. It is all or nothing . But unlike you , the lyrics are not essential. Give me a good riff, guitar rhythm that repeats, and I am happy! It is ok Not to like hard rock. At least you tried it. Many have Never heard a hard rock song and yet they say they hate it!

Hello there,
I don't like rock music too. I also find it hard to understand since I can't really catch what on earth are those people saying there. The music is so loud that it makes my ear very painful. I don't like that kind of atmosphere and if someone stays under those kind of situation for a long period of time, he will lose his hearing ability.

That is the whole point of having hard rock music in the first place, so that you can only hear rumbling sound and make you suffer from headache, it is not composed with the intent to make sure the listeners understand, except to wake up everyone in your quiet neighborhood, make yourself availble to take a look at those creeps in hard rock band, did you really believe that nice and pleasant music to your ears can be produced by those people???? There is ctually nothing there for you to understand except making loud and noisy sound, you should be wonder how in the world call this be called 'music' ....

I like rock music.. just a few though.. what i do not like is metal.. since everything is shouting and it does hurt my ears.. Rock music, is not that loud, maybe the instruments but the lyrics can still be heard and it is meaningful most of the times, and it's nice to "headbang" to.

I listen to all kinds of genres, and I don't mind listening to rock at all, maybe you don't like the heavy metal, but I guess it depends on the person as well.
Everyone listens and likes a specific genre, but for me it's for all to express deep emotions. Even if it's in a different language, I'd still listen to it.
My tolerance on rock on the other hand depends on how the vocalist sings, if it is far too "EVIL" in nature (referring to the sound played, and based on the lyrics) I would certainly stop listening to it. But if it's just like, Linken park, 30 seconds to mars, My Chemical Romance, Simple plan etc, then it's ok with me.

Hello Tess, I have to say I like rock musics. Some people might find these musics are extremely noisy but not me. I loves the noise of electric guitars and the beats of the drum. Sometimes, we don't have to intentionally understand the lyrics but we enjoy the musics solely. :) By the way, musics with none or one instrument will bore me to sleep.

I am not also a rock type person. I do not appreciate it particularly the song with screams. It gives me the creeps and I consider it too as a noise, I wonder why other love this kind of music, particularly boys? well, maybe some girls also like this type of song, well, Rock music has a lot of supporters from the boys rather that the girls. That is what I observe. Well, anyway each of everyone has hi or her preference of music or song, We just have to respect what they like, the same as how they respect what we like.

Hi Tess! I understand about music likes and dislikes, I have the same reaction to country music. But I will tell you what hard rock does for those who are into it. It creates a guttural, primal feeling that puts it's emphasis on a 'push'. For those of us who are into the music, we get almost a 'roller coaster' feel from it. It's hard, it's relentless and it reaches down our throats, into our bellies and grabs out a hunk of our heart and soul. this is the essence of hard rock is. I need hard rock once in a while to just survive. It feeds the soul, it jars it, it creates in it, a world in which we feel like screaming and thrusting our very 'essence' into the Universe. You can tell, by how people act at rock shows. It's the "mosh pit". Listen to Lamb of God, or perhaps listen to Rage Against the Machine, it's a huge push. Like I said, it's not for everyone. It's cool if it's not, but this is how many of us feel when we hear it. Good post! hope you have an excellent day at Mylots!
