Are you a good judge of character?

I am generally right on target shortly after meeting someone for the first time. My first impression is accurate. There are many things I look for and put them to good use after any sort of conversation. Am not always that accurate online because it's difficult for me understand a person in any kind of chat or discussion here. How about you?

Only in person and only if I am able to talk to this person for a while. Sometimes it takes a second meeting to really know, but usually I learn enough to know whether to keep that person in my life or not.

Ditto, I agree. I find it easier to get someone to talk in person about something they really like whether it be about family, work or a hobby. I have more acquaintances then actual friends but that is done on purpose. A real friend won't care what my husband does for a living or where we live. Thanks for responding.

I just got confirmation of this too. I have been in contact with a Mylot member for months and found I still don't know her as well as I thought..:P

I thought I was a good judge of character, but after the past few years I have my doubts. I was friends with one couple that were horrible to me and of course the friendship ended. I now listen to the dog. Abby, my pit/lab mix is an excellent judge of character (she tried to warn me about the couple that were so horrible but I didn't pay attention! Dumb me!!!) in fact I am beginning to think that she is a better judge of character than I am! But I learned my lesson and if she doesn't like the person, I hold them at arms length and don't get as close to them as I might. She hasn't been wrong yet, and I doubt that she will be.

Another amazing dog story. I agree about listening to your dog. They must feel something and know when a person is not up to par. Thanks for responding.

Lately I need to follow my Gut instinct when it comes to first impressions when meeting someone, and go from there. There have been 2 times lately when meeting someone for the first time there were RED Flags, and I chose not to follow them. I think from now on I will be a little more cautious and not be so Trusting and use my judgement on how I feel from the start.

Being cautious is the key. I get turned off when someone wants to know what my husband does for a living right after meeting that person. Makes me wonder what that person is after or what it has to do with me personally. Thanks for responding.

I'm pretty good. When I was a teenager my dad hired some people and when I met some of them I told him such and such was not a good decision and he was going to regret hiring them. He just looked at me like, what do you know? And yes, I was fifteen. But I was right. They turned out to be a big mistake and caused a lot of trouble. Then later my dad was helping a guy and I told him that guy was no good and that I could tell he was trouble. And boy was he trouble! So I do put a lot of stock in how I inititally feel about a person's character.

Sounds like you have it all down pat. I love people and am curious about them so I tend to ask questions. Some might call it nosey but most often I'm simply trying to learn more about the person and how we can have a half way intelligent conversation. Like their likes and dislikes. Thanks for responding.

I tend to just watch them. How they react with others, how they carry themselves, how they react to just little situations.

For the most part, I would have to say that I really am a good judge of character. A few months ago, my husband introduced me to a friend of his and my first impression was that I didn't like the man, there was just something about him that I felt was quite off. Well, as time passed, he ended up refusing to return our van that he had borrowed and ended up getting arrested because of that. Then, he ended up skipping out on his court date, so I really was right about him.

I am quite a good judge of character, too. My first impressions almost always seem to be true. However, when you know a person better, you may realize how many things you don't know about them and how much you still have to discover. That is why I always prefer to try to know a person better before saying how he or she really is.

Very few times was I wrong with our kid's friends when they were in high school. This was a real test...lol I love people and enjoy talking to them and really believe they feel this. I am genuine and expect others to be the same but that's not always the case. Thanks for responding.

I can usually tell about how my students can be from their characters. I face so many of the students each year and my good judge of character is based on their performance as well.

I think I am a fairly good judge of character in person. I do know that I am an excellent judge of character when it comes to politicians. I constantly frustrated at how easily so many people are taken in by the what many politicians say, especially when they are running for office. But even after they have been elected and delivered on almost none of their promises, many people still believe them and fall for their lines.

I stay as far away as I can when it comes to politicians. Just can't seem to figure them out. Always seem to vote for the "wrong" presidental candidate. I pretty much vote out of guilt which is awful. Thanks for responding.

Hi Carol, I am a good judge of character. My first impression is right on target. I can also tell alot about a person and their values following a conversation. Lastly, I can judge a person's character by how a person treats people.

I am not good judge about the character of the person but my husband always can judge the person and they can give the opinion about person in first meeting. I never give the opinion because I cant imagine the person is good or bad but my husband sense of humor is good.

I tend to get more people who are from same background as me..just for some time .. than I change my mind.

I do that too. Same background seems to share some good experiences about life in general. Can be really fun too. Thanks for responding.

Not really. I kind of force myself to think the best of each people, and want to think that... also I can be a bit deceived by manners and stuff.

Maybe because of my age and life's experiences I am accurate about first impressions. I agree about always trying to think the best of people until I see a red flag or feel strange vibes. Thanks for responding.

hi carolbee! i think i am a good judge of character because for one thing i have been a student of psychology and human nature for many years and have worked in that field and encountered a lot of different people, good and bad...however, i know our dog the princess is a wonderful judge of character...is she doesn't like someone we know they are not good...she took a dislike to my son's girlfriend immediately and would have nothing to do with her...and it turned out she was right, that the girl was very mean and actually evil...but other people she likes and trusts and they turn out to be good people...animals are blessed with that intuitive sense, i think, and we should listen to them!

Your dog sounds amazing. I am jealous. I have seen dogs react to some people rather strange so they have to sense something. Thanks for responding.
